WEC 51: Manny Gamburyan ready to 'kick some ass' against Jose Aldo
Props: MMA Nation
Quoteworthy:
"To be honest with you, I respect Jose Aldo. He's a true champion. He's a phenomenal fighter, but whatever he can do, I can do it too. He's a better striker, most definitely, we all know that, but I can strike too. I can hit hard. I've been working on my wrestling, my jiu-jitsu, my conditioning, I'm just ready to go. I can't wait for that date to come so finally I can get that belt ... I'm not 19 or 20 anymore, I'm reaching my goals now. I've been training hard every day in my boxing, muay thai, clinch work, my wrestling. I don't care if my body is getting bigger or smaller. I don't care about what I'm gonna weigh the day of the fight. As long as I'm healthy and ready and feel sharp, that's all that matters. I'm quicker and more in shape now. I've been doing a lot of conditioning work. I've been in camp for five months already and I'm sick and tired of it. I just want to go out there and kick some ass."
After posting three straight wins under the WEC banner, former "Ultimate Fighter" and UFC lightweight Manny Gamburyan tries to capture the promotion's featherweight title against unstoppable fighting machine Jose Also on Sept. 30 from the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colorado. Anyone think "Manvil" can follow up on his April knockout over Mike Brown with a upset win over "Junior?"

I really don't even see this being a competitive fight
But I guess stranger things have happened.
Nice Photoshop

Defo Aldo's head shopped onto Emerson's body.
Because they’re wearing UFC gloves, and Aldo hasn’t fought in the UFC ;)
Arlovski : Kang : GSP : Rampage : Lytle : Huerta : Quarry : Serra : Wandy : Pulver : Alvarez
Yea it's just Aldo's head
Little smudge technique to blend at the neck; it’s a good one though, exactly how that fights gonna end up.

Yea you gotta screw around with the color balance and maybe even add some noise to hide it
I’m too lazy for all that lol

color balance? noise?
I’m using a ghost of PS 4.0 — I’m just glad the clunky thing still loads to be perfectly honest.

Well done Jesse, fits great.

Manny has no chanceat all. round 1 murder
Shogun will have the longest championship reign in the UFC
I wouldnt go that far. Manny has dynamite power in his hands and if Aldo doesnt respect that and walks into a power shot he will be alseep before he hits the canvas. Aldo has 100 ways to beat Manny sure and most likely will but to say he doesnt have a shot is absurd. I didnt give Chael a shot vs Anderson, didnt give Werdum a chance vs Fedor and quite frankly didnt think Brock would survive Carwins power shots. This is MMA nothing is impossible.
Manny needs to stay inside away from letting Aldo use distance for momentum in his leg kicks, needs to stay in tight to avoid Aldo’s kicks and dynamic arsenal. In tight he can land his shots, play some dirty boxing, clinch + exchange then seperate. If he stands on the outside he will eat leg kicks, body shots and will get bombarded.

This about sums it up.

Yea but the inside he's gonna eat some Thai knees/elbows
Lets just face it; Manny is screwed.

Yes he very well could but its his best shot. He loses the reach advantage especially since Aldo uses his kicks so well. His only shot striking is to stay in tight.
by EvolutionMMA on Sep 27, 2010 1:47 PM EDT up reply actions
Agreed. As a fellow midget I can attest that this is the best way for Manny to find any sucess vs. Aldo.

Its not a bad strategy either really. Manny is a tough guy. He can absorb some punishment and if he is working with a Judoka he could use that tightness to do some Judo throws and score points.
by EvolutionMMA on Sep 27, 2010 3:00 PM EDT up reply actions
Its the only strategy for a man with a reach disadvantage in terms of striking. Set up the td's by being in tight and work that judo. I agree, new guy. Good stuff.

he is one of the best new posters we got
Let’s not scare him away.
We fight, get beat, rise and fight again.

when they sliced open my wife’s belly (C-section), my youngest daughter stood up like the baby alien and looked at me. She hasn’t let up since. lol.

I have seen both knife and gun wounds. Nothing like child birth.
The first C-section, they did not let me watch the incision, but the pool of blood that formed on the ground was as big as a hula hoop. no shit. I told them the second time about that and told them I needed to watch so I could see everything was ok.

I am not having children. This has helped me to this decision.
We fight, get beat, rise and fight again.
lol, perspective appreciated.

Hope he decides to move up to 155 soon and go to the UFC.
And wasn’t there rumors about getting rid of the 155ers in the WEC?
He will move up the WEC 155 before any UFC aspirations.
by EvolutionMMA on Sep 27, 2010 1:52 PM EDT up reply actions
That's actually my favorite part about the WEC still having a 155 class . . .
Because it will give Aldo a chance to get acclimated to the weight change before joining the UFC. I hope after this fight Aldo moves up to 155, and I’m also hopeful that Henderson will be brought over soon because there are a lot of interesting fights for him in the UFC.
"Before I do anything I ask myself, "Would an idiot do that?" And if the answer is yes, I do not do that thing." - Dwight Schrute
Definitely. I doubt it’ll happen for a while though, for both guys. But it damn well should. Give Benderson a guy like Joe Stevenson to start him off, and once Aldo adjusts to 155 give him anybody.
"THIS IS THE GREATEST UPSET IN THE HISTORY OF MIXED MARTIAL ARTS!"
Gus Johnson will never live that down and it should never be forgotten.
Aldo Bendo
would be a fantastic fight. But Aldo scares me and Bendo is one of my favorites. What could be interesting is to finally see some groundgame from Aldo in that one.
We fight, get beat, rise and fight again.
That fights a win win. Win for Bendo = Status as a legit top prospect in the LW division. Makes for a path into the top contender of the UFC class. Win for Aldo = multi weight marketable young champ to drop into the UFC

Aldo takes this
Just hope this time by destroying manny in the standup and cripple his leg. But finish it with a nice submission.

Except….
Serra fought at 155 his whole career and joined TUF at 170. Huge height and reach disadvantage.
Manny used to be a 155er and moved down to have weight and power advantages.

Somebody is gonna get their ass kicked
but it ain’t gonna be Jose. Manny could have a puncher’s chance but Jose is so fast I don’t see him getting tagged at all. Whatever Jose wants….death by leg kick or kneeKO. Don’t see this going to a decision.
Aldo is going on diet and isn't attending interviews by now. I'll catch him right after this match-up.
