UFC 119 bonuses and awards for 'Mir vs Cro Cop' PPV fights

Ufc81-bonus_medium

UFC 119: "Mir vs. Cro Cop" from the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana., has officially wrapped, which means that it’s time for those select fighters who went above and beyond in their respective fights to get a little extra grease for their efforts.

To the tune of $70,000 each.

The promotion dished out its standard post-fight monetary bonuses to five out of the 22 fighters on the card, and it's probably no surprise who's leaving "Circle City" with second sack of simoleons.

What is surprising is that despite claiming the events only KO, former division champion Frank Mir was not awarded a "Knockout of the Night" bonus for his win over fellow heavyweight  Mirko "Cro Cop." I guess UFC President Dana White is punishing him for the 14 minutes of agony that preceded it.

In its place, two "Fight of the Night" bonuses were named.

Heavyweight competitors Matt Mitrione and Joey Beltran took the first spot during the Spike TV telecast while the 155-pound battle between Sean Sherk and Evan Dunham claimed the second.

That left "Submission of the Night," which went to former TUF-guy CB Dollaway after "The Doberman" strangled Joe Doerksen into a first round tap during the "Prelims" special.

Cha-ching.

Here are the special fight bonuses for UFC 119:

Star-divide

Fight of the Night (1) — Matt Mitrione vs. Joey Beltran
Fight of the Night (2) — Evan Dunham vs Sean Sherk
Submission of the Night — CB Dollaway

Again, each fighter received $70,000 extra for their performances in addition to their respective base salaries, which we will pass along as soon as possible.

thats pretty shitty

considering it was a legit KO.. I wasn’t happy with the fight either, but he knocked Cop’s head off in a clean KO. deserved the bonus.

at least Evan got his share

It was funny at first, but its worked against me too many times now. FUCK the LATE TAKEDOWN!!
David Nog got robbed, but I'll take my sig like a man. What do ya got for me?

btw no the "FUCK the LATE TAKEDOWN"........... i refuse to live in a world where getting a meaningless

takedown at the end of the round doesn’t win you fights.

i went 5-1 on the night with my only loss dunham.

i posted some of my tickets and had mir, bader, lytle, dunham, guillard and mitrione. mitrione was the funnest fight of the night. he is light on his feat. mir was my huge bet. i bet it twice for a total of 700 dollars. it was a good night.

You picked all favorites

Is 5-1 supposed to be impressive?

by AzCombat on Sep 26, 2010 6:41 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

I don't much care for Wolf's bragging either, but he earned his money

5-1 is rather impressive, since he actually dropped $.

You’re implying that picking all favorites would always lead to successful betting results. Most people, you being an apparent exception, know that’s not the case.

i go with alot of dogs. i had oliviera, leben, bonnar, akiyama for 200 at +180 over bisping

cerrone over varner and koscheck over kos and now belfort over andy. i take my fair share of dogs but competitive dogs. sometimes its a favorites card.

you have got to be f**king kidding me lytle/serra was by far fight of the night

and then mir not getting ko of the night he basically saved the main event be pulling off that late KO. If mir would have ebded up winning by UD that would have been a disaster and leave fans going home on a total let down.

wow dana dropped the ball tonight

by dia mette on Sep 26, 2010 2:32 AM EDT up reply actions

Lytle vs. Serra was entertaining, but it looked like a toughman contest more than an mma fight.

They didn’t exactly showcase an abundance of talent and skill. I still can’t believe that L:ytle was a pro boxer at some point.

I think fotn was given to the right fighters. Their fight was also very entertaining, but showed a bit more skill and variety.
I do agree that Mir should have been awarded for the KO, even if the rest of the fight was boring.

by naturalshadow on Sep 26, 2010 4:48 AM EDT up reply actions

agreed

i thought serra/lytle was tied for fotn with sherk and dunham. the mitrione/beltran fight was good, but not as good as those other 2 fights.

never have any regrets, because at the time, thats all you wanted to do

by child on Sep 26, 2010 11:00 AM EDT up reply actions

at the post fight presser lytle was shocked when two fights were nominated for FOTN and he still didnt get it

and a total slap in the face to mir, dana must have been smoking with nick and nate in between fights out back

by dia mette on Sep 26, 2010 2:36 AM EDT reply actions

why didnt one of the reporters call him out on that

reporter – “why was there no ko of the night awarded when frank mir had a convincing KNOCK OUT”

dana – " uh uh uh well uh uh uh"

total BS

by dia mette on Sep 26, 2010 2:48 AM EDT reply actions

I agree that was BS

When Dana pulls stunts like this he makes himself look like a dictator not a president. Unprofessional prick!

by attakdog on Sep 26, 2010 5:35 AM EDT up reply actions

That is some bullshit i’m usually with Dana on things for the most part but Mir knocked CC the fuck out who cares about what happened before the fight was ended by KO.

Eh

I think Mir got payed justly for his perfomance. All he did was pin him against the cage every 30 seconds only to be broken up that was a lame fight. Thank god he knocked him out buy that shouldn’t make up for that BS performance IMO. Everyone I know watching tonight wanted their money back

by soupdz28 on Sep 26, 2010 3:46 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

The KO made up for the performance to me but that’s not the point the fact is it was the only KO of the night and should have won him the bonus. And if Dana is mad at anyone it should be CC who has basically been stealing paychecks since he came to the UFC cut his ass but don’t punish Mir for knocking his ass out.

I see where you are coming from

But think of it business wise, you get bonuses for going above and beyond excelling, if your boss gab you a task to finish and you diced around on your computer all week and pulled it together last minute not exactly deserving of a bonus, different context to us I know, but not to Dana. And Mir has had one impressive fight out of like the last 4 and that was Kongo, and everyone acts like hea a star heavyweight, even when he beat broke he was seconds awayfrom the TKO until the ref saved his life

no and you are wrong as well.

business my ass, “business” like that is what ruins boxing and the legitimacy of most things in the world.. It’s a joke.. Dana is not in charge of MMA and he needs to accept that and give these fighters who are already getting paid like crap money, that’s his job.

I've seriously

Seen you post how business and capitalism and America are destroying the world in every damn post. If it wasn’t for that bald bastard this sport wouldn’t be half as popular. Say what you want but the truth is he’s helped this sport more than anyone else, like it or not it’s true. And it IS A BUSINESS it’s called entertainment. Crap money my ass some of these fighters get 200k$ for 15 minutes of fighting.

by soupdz28 on Sep 27, 2010 3:52 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Damn Serra and Lytle got robbed for fight of the night

by broncos12405 on Sep 26, 2010 3:21 AM EDT reply actions

Sorry

I’m usually with Dana but that’s bullshit, you can’t say it’s 70,000 for ko of the night then not award it!! Shouldn’t matter what’s gone on before it, that’s why fotn is seperate from ko of the night!!

Dana needs to pay out cos that’s almost fraud!! Wel give 1 of you guys 70,000 for ko of the night, to then not give it!!!

Dana u get pissed at guys for way less than what u have jst done, very disappointing!! Not every fight can be great, and it’s not Mirs fault cro cop didn’t commit all fight!

by the real mo on Sep 26, 2010 4:53 AM EDT via mobile reply actions

I'm with you on this one

This is complete bullshit.

At these UFC events, FOTN bonuses are handed out to the “best” fight, even if there are no really outstanding fights.

It’s the same with the submissions. A routine submission on a guy with little sub defense “earns” the bonus for the winner.

KO of the night has been handed out for a TKO.

Now all of a sudden, Dana changes the status quo because it’s Frank Mir? Asshole move.

by The real Philo on Sep 26, 2010 10:46 AM EDT up reply actions

I still feel that Little Nog won that fight. Bader only used the takedown effectively in the first round. the other 2 rounds’ takedowns were meaningless and Little Nog countered effectively. Not to mention, little nog dominated the stand up in every round. But whatever. I guess bringing the fight to the ground gets you points even if right after, your opponent brings the fight back the feet.

Honestly, i dont get how changing the position of the fight gets you points when it is brought to the ground but when it gets brought to the feet, it doesnt get you a point. Judges are making MMA boring with their utter stupidity. Thank God fighters like nog still exist. The commision needs to hire some new refs because Nog won that fight and now Bader is reeping the benefits of a victory for taking a guy down and doing NOTHING.

No, he isn't.

What we need to do is get rid of the whiney schmucks who keep crying “Waaa he won’t let my guy punch him waaaa”. Bader got the win because he won. You wanted Nog to get the win because you like Nog.

Bader didnt do anything with the takedowns. You offer no arguement to defend it. Bader couldn’t even keep it on the ground half of the time once he got it there. He dropped bombs in the first round but he didnt do anything in the other 2. Bringing the fight to the ground briefly wins fights in your opinion?

by RyanHobbs on Sep 27, 2010 1:37 AM EDT up reply actions

Gsp dose it , Randy Coulture dose it, Rashad Evans dose it,

So why is Mir getting shit for doing exactly what 3 of the "greatest " fighters of all time do,
Muscle out boring ass decisions, except Mir won by Ko. So f Dana and F Joe Rogan , if there going to criticize one criticize all.

What crack are you smoking?

Rashad Evans is in the greatest of all time catagory, lol. Gsp does not stall and is almost always either looking to improve position, going for a sub or punching the guy, your obviously a biased hater. Randy is hardly in the top 3 greatest, ya a legend and hall of famer but look at the guys record. Gsp is a very good, well rounded fighter and fights guys where he has the greatest chance, only a dumbass fights a fight with a disadvantage if he doesn’t have to. Dude you must be new.

Not the best card for sure....

Not sure I agree with the decision not to award the KO of the night and no way Mitrione – Beltran deserves the nod over Lytle – Serra. At least they got it right with Sherk-Dunham but that decision in Sherk’s favor was BS.

Guillard – Stevens was pretty disappointing to me.

by sudnvictory on Sep 26, 2010 9:05 PM EDT reply actions

Total BS for a total BS card

Yes Mir/CC was boring as hell, but at least Mir finished him with a great KO, yet he gets no bonus b/c Dana is on another power trip. And to give Mitrione/Beltran FOTN honors over Lytle/Serra is just plain stupid. This entire card was utter crap and so is Dana.
