Gifted a title fight if you will

I would agree with that. Not to say I didn’t want to see this fight, because I do, but he is nowhere near the #1 contender at 185.

We fight, get beat, rise and fight again.

but hes the only challenger. Everyone else is just a needless excercise.

he will knock silva out. its true. its true

As we always suspected - Jackson's MMA secures another victory under suspicious circumstances. Freenow82 called it and is seldom wrong when pre diagnosing a Lay n Pray / Vaseline victory before it happens. Free 2 - BZ 3... I smell a come back.

I think Okami and Marquardt could make it a good fight

but I am with you, Vitor is the only guy who can fight at 185 who has a chance of knocking him out.

I dont know why I have to spell this out for everyone

Okami lost to Silva – it was a loss.
Marquardt was finished by Silva.

So Vitor is in —

Yep

No need to spell it out. Okami was getting beat, and then got KO’d. Illegal blow aside, he would have lost. However, the way this played out is fine by me. I like both fights.

I haven't missed all that you say above

I am just saying they could also give him a good fight. I like this fight, it will be fun. But, if you are a purist, it is a problem.

this fight is total bullshit and a disgrace to the ufc who i've known to be corrupted for the past couple yrs anyway.

doesn’t matter if ppl think Belfort can beat Anderson Silva, he’s not going to have fought for over 15 months, he shouldn’t even be eligible to compete in a title fight. Yushin Okami should sue Dana White for racism.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic !

by RoBerto. on Sep 22, 2010 7:40 PM EDT up reply actions

What?

That’s crazy. Okami is two fights removed from a loss to Chael Sonnen. The last time he almost got a title shot he lost to Rich Franklin. In the meantime, he won plodding, boring decisions and did zero to market himself.
Belfort on the other hand is by far the most marketable fight the UFC can make now. Race plays no roll when it’s time to make money. The Zuffa Bros and Dana are capitalists and could give a crap if fighter x is purple as long as he’s going to generate revenue. I think it’s unfortunate that you have that much baggage that the first thing you would think of is that the UFC is racist.

by PetrozellisJab on Sep 22, 2010 7:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe the Marquardt / Okami fight

But Belfort / Silva is going to be awesome.

by PetrozellisJab on Sep 22, 2010 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions

You know

that may be true. The bottom line is that the Chael got removed from the rematch and Belfort would have fought Anderson in April if it wasn’t for the injury. He’s healthy now and the title needs to be defended so here we go.

by PetrozellisJab on Sep 22, 2010 7:51 PM EDT up reply actions

There is NO ONE ELSE

Chael is gone
Yushin lossed and will lose to Silva
Marquardt is not a shoe in because of recent losses and akward victories.

No science. It’s called building a marketable fight with a legit contender.

In that case Vera beat Jones…because Jones was basically knocked out by Vera’s upkick when he was downed and vera had to stop or get DQd. by ur logic he shoulda just went apeshit on Okami.

Might Silva have beaten Okami IF HE HADN"T BLATANTLY CHEATED? Of course. But he didn’t, he fucking lost because he did something illegal. In no way is cheating a win.

You guys need to go the Sherdog fightfinder becuase

obviously you’ve never seen how that fight ended. Okami ftw. Seriously though i don’t get it chael essentially showed the obvious that Andy’s wrestling sucks and that if you have enough ground awareness you should be able to grind him out. Okami is a grinder and unlike Fael, he’s a great top position grappler. So how come everyone is so down on him being able to win? Did we just see Sonnen almost pull it off with same strategy? Didn’t he blow it with essentially the same technical mistakes that have plagued his entire career? But nope all ofa sudden it’s a new reborn striker who long long ago knocked out Scotty and Abbott that’s supposed to dethrone the best striker we’ve seen yet in MMA? But what the hell do i know.

Okami shoots gets stuffed and flops on his back… so the fuck what??? Then he shoots grabs a single and Anderson thinks about a triangle before hitting the upkick

Anderson is 500% better than then

What fight are you watching. This is unlike you NNR

Now thats a fockin Poem.

by Bigger Zino on Sep 22, 2010 11:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Anderson's bottom game still sucks.

He’s aggressive with subs but doesn’t mean shit if the guy on top can shut you down. That’s why against the better guys he closes them up with that body triangle which i mean you’re not really supposed to do in BJJ. Thats one of the main reasons i was hoping to see him against a top BJJ player(that’s been a dud). But Okami is a lot better as well……now he can somewhat defend himself standing. hell i would give him a better shot at beating andy than i would vitor. Vitor unless he goes back to his 2001 version (aka the wrestler) then it’s uphill battle fighting andy on his strenght. Okami on the other hand would be as i described above. Now that i think abot though……even if vitor by some miracle KO’s andy…i mean does anyone think he can beat Marqy or Okami? IMO the whole reason why dana leap frogged him was because the chances of the upset were too high.

Big Nog for Life

by NNR (formerly NameNotRequired) on Sep 23, 2010 1:11 AM EDT up reply actions

Why do you overlook the Franklin win like that

Marqy and Okami (who lost to rich, right?) would still struggle with Ace today.

Rich had to leave 185 because he was in purgatory. He was the absoulte undisputed #2 but could not beat Andy. And Vitor handled him very easily.

Andersons ground game is weak link, but I dont’ know where your coming from saying that Marquardt or Okami would upset him.
I don’t give either a chance. I don’t think Nate is physically tough enough to endure Vitors shots. It would end just like the Silva fight… back up against the fence – straight right – and then pounce on him to the TKO.

Maybe we will be lucky enough in 2011 to see it happen for real

by Bigger Zino on Sep 23, 2010 8:38 AM EDT up reply actions

That's the thing my friend......You don't need to be

physically tough to beat Vitor. Overeem use to have terrible cardio and a shaky chin or Every captain paycheck never had a granite chin. You just need to be able to make a fight ugly. If you slow him down and take away his dynamism then Vitor has quit every time out. He’s never in one fight that i can remember fought back adversity and returned for a win. That’s called front running. Vitor and Okami have proven time in an out that they can fight in a slow and methodical way. Though I probably am overlooking franklin, it probably is due to the fact that the fight ended on teh first strike thrown. Personally i am always torn on fights like that because you gotta reconcile where it lands between one mental slip vs one fighter being legitimately better all around skillwise than the other. I mean would you expect the same result the exact way in a rematch?

In the end however, we know nothing until the fight. I’ll be interesting to see if your prediction is close. I will say this one thing though if Vitor upsets Andy, i would sig anyone that he loses his next fight.

am the first one to admit

Vitor had his mental issues. I have to believe with Age/Maturity and 3 consecutive KO’s that he’s got confidence.

He sees the same fights we do. Its tough in every fight. Your going to have to do some digging to win in this era.

At least I hope he knows. Couture should be telling him that right now.

While I agree, SF is a much better example of this. Bellator’s tournaments are the only true legit fights from a pure sport standpoint, but event hey mess around with their non-tournament scraps. Dream, come on. Sengoku, I just don’t know enough about those dudes. WEC does a pretty good job.

I stooped bothering with whats fair and whats right

when Brock got his title shot, well it kind of started after Jardine got given Wandy after he got beat by Chuck, whos ass Jardine had just beat. I thought everybody accepted now that this all about the money, and who will bring the most of it in. The I do not even see why they bother with MMA rankings there is no set structure or process whatsoever, the fighters who will make the most money will get preferential treatment, and a lot of the fights are made with this in mind this is what makes the ranking sytem complete b/s to me, this and UFC fighers only fighting UFC fighers. I just sit back and enjoy the fights, and have stopped taking anything else too seriously now. Sports entertainment is exactly what it is, with more emphasis on the entertainment.
