'Snowman' melting? Jeff Monson 'currently in process of cutting down to light heavyweight'
Props: LowKick.com
Quoteworthy:
"I'm just getting fights right now. My goal is to win the UFC title, or the Strikeforce title at 205. I'm currently in process of cutting down to light heavyweight ... I'm currently 230. So I need to cut 25 pounds. It's not a big deal for me, and I'm actually used to it from the days when I wrestled in the college ... We've been talking to Strikeforce. So it's just a matter of signing a contract and getting an opponent. Nothing is signed yet. But when the fight's right and the negotiations are right, we'll go from there."
Cocky and stocky submission specialist Jeff Monson (37-11) is looking to write a new chapter in his storied MMA career by dropping down to light heavyweight to see what kind of impact he can make in the 205-pound division. Since his departure from the UFC, "The Snowman" has performed quite well against quality competition in lesser known events. In fact, the self-described anarchist is 12-3 since a unanimous decision loss to Josh Barnett back in 2008. Can the grappling guru make a run in the UFC or Strikeforce at a weight that better suits his compact frame?

I “met” Monson at the press conference for “There will be Blood” in Miami 08. I put my arm on him for a picture and it was like touching a cement block. I have never seen or trained with a guy who is as solid as him. Should be interesting to see him at 205 because he is gonna have to drop a ton of muscle mass….
His reach and height would be more suited for 205. He has the grappling credentials to wrestle and grapple with the best of them in SF.
+1
He is to short for HW

What's all over him?
Is he chewing mad amounts of Wrigleys and those are those foil gum wrappers?
Or is the cheap metal plating on that trophy rubbing off.
He has awesome tatts, i just wish he didn’t have that douche tribal, ah whatever,

I hope so
Dude has had some large profile fights and I’m always interested in seeing him.
Watching him North- South choke dudes is probably one of my top 37 activities.
He’s got a tutorial video for North South, I haven’t watched it but I assume it’s:

Step 2: Come out to John Lennon: Imagine

An anarchist yes but that?
Never heard of that before. Why would you ask that? Is it because of how he looks? Or did you hear something to that effect? Monson is a good man as far as I can see.

Maybe, but if a white guy came out with a White Pride tattoo what would you say about him?
by Steven Abbott on Sep 21, 2010 7:15 PM EDT up reply actions
That he is proud of his heritage. But BECAUSE he is white, he would get criticized as being a racist..Racism is only tolerated if your a minority
the "white pride" tattoo
Has been ruined by people who did wear it with the wrong intentions. They were pride of their heritage but also hating everyone who was not proud or was different. I dont know if the “brown pride” has the same history as a white pride tattoo. But cain seems te be very proud of his mexican heritage but also respecting others. Unlike some people who wear the “white pride” tattoo

I love Monson. Always followed him, and ya its a dude with a gun to another’s head. It says below “capitalism”. Plays in to his whole Anarchist persona perfectly. He’s so cool imo. Really.

Hey im just wondering.. Totally off subject
Do you spell the way you do, because it’s faster? I would imagine it would take longer to spell words incorrectly, than it would to just spell everything out like a normal human being..Just sayin’ My little brother in high school does the same thing. So is it just a teen age thing?
why? i think its a perfect name for him

Great move..
SF sign him and give him either Babalu or King Mo. IMO, Monson wins both easily.

I think feijo is relevant, king mo is a pretty good fighter and mousassi is good as well.
Babalu, henderson, mike kyle and add monson, that’s not a bad group of fighters
Strikeforce is doing a pretty good job of adding some legit guys that can still be entertaining.. I don’t care if there ufc “rejects” or whatever you wanna call them.. There still good fighters

if their entertaining, and put on great cards like SF "Houston" then bring it on
And I think Monson is a relevant top 10er at 205 regardless of where he fights. I’m excited.

I like Monson and I like SF.
I was just saying if he’s “irrelevant” then so is the whole division, because I think he would be right in their mix. I enjoy nice matchups and good fights, I don’t care always if it’s relevant to the top 10 picture. I think any of the SF guys are lucky to be ranked top 10 and nobody would argue that the UFC doesn’t have the cream of the division.
"That wasn't just winning. I mean, that was just demolishment."
Everybody knows the UFC has the majority of the best fighters,
but I the rankings are b/s anyway, the UFC only ever fights UFC fighters. Its not like in tennis, golf or boxing where you have all of the best competing against one another to get a true picture, and you also have TUF competitors in there getting title shots, and some of the so called best being beaten by guys they shouldn’t be losing to,so just because some fighters are in the UFC doesn’t automatically make them better fighers and mean that they are able to beat any fighter in another organization.
He hasn't fought in the division and you think he's top 10, no matter where he goes?
You may be giving him too much credit.
jay.
im certainly giving him alot of credit
But I believe his reach is less a disadvantage, and his power is freaky. And he has a gas tank with it. I’m confident in him, and we’ll see I guess. I could easily be way off. My bad if I am. But I’m a big fan.

I’m glad he’s finally dropping down. I was so excited to see him take out Tim Silvia, but man what a disappointing fight when he couldn’t get past that reach on the ground
dude is torn
interesting ifll he’ll be able to make it and at what cost

Monson will have to change his diet n workouts... he can do it.
It’ll be a cut in comparison to Mark Coleman cutting to 205lbs, have to cut out the heavy lifting and go for reps, tons of cardio and drastically change his diet… Monson will definitely lose a lot of muscle mass but cutting to a lower weight is always a good way to revive a career. Plus Monson body type will be more effective at 205lbs he should be really competitive there.
don't remember that...
I always thought he fought at heavy’s in MMA?… in college he probably was lighter but I’m not sure about any of that.
