Sean Sherk: 'I'm still a force to be reckoned with'
Props: The Savage Dog Show
Quoteworthy:
"I'm a force to be reckoned with. Anyone who thinks I'm not can step in the Octagon with me. I've got all kinds of stuff left to offer this industry and this sport. I'm not going anywhere for a long time. I haven't lost any athleticism. I haven't lost any of my ability. I've only gotten better, and I've only gotten smarter."
Former UFC Lightweight Champion Sean Sherk recently told The SDS on Sherdog Radio that he's still got a lot left in the tank, and is still one of the top lightweights in the sport. "The Muscle Shark" went as far as to challenge anyone who thinks otherwise to come and prove it in the cage. His fight with Evan Dunham at UFC 119 this coming Saturday will go along way in determining if this notion is fact or fiction. But before we get to fight night, let's get some of your reaction to Sherk's comments. Do you think Sean still has what it takes to compete against the top guys in the 155-pound division? Who do you like in this match up, Sherk or Dunham?

Go Sherk! Time for Dunham to receive his first loss.

ring rust?
i don’t see sherk winning this fight.his stock is low & i’m cashing in on the new up coming fighters like bone jones.it’s out with the old & in with the new… i mean sherk has been around when 155 wasn’t around

I think most are going with Evan so we shall see if Sherk’s statement is true.
Do not. I repeat, do not, go to mma-core.com. I made the mistake of watching a couple UFC 108 bouts on there and I am still trying to get all the viruses of my computer. Ridiculous! You've been warned.

maybe so...
But your reach will remain the same. People will always be able to pick Sherk apart from the outside

Imagine the mule kick or up kick you could hit someone with?
As we always suspected - Jackson's MMA secures another victory under suspicious circumstances. Freenow82 called it and is seldom wrong when pre diagnosing a Lay n Pray / Vaseline victory before it happens. Free 2 - BZ 3... I smell a come back.
no sean you are not a force to be reckoned with. just get your azz beat baby.
I'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. Glory favors the bold. Chance favors the prepared mind. Luck, well i have that too. University of Utah goes to the Pac-12 conference in 2011. I expect them to compete immediately for the conference CG. Brock Lesnar will defeat Cain Velasquez. The most hated and misunderstood person on the MMA blogs.. Utah and Boise take care of business in week one. Don't be surprised if they both go undefeated.

Honestly tough to say. Really, his losses have been nothing to be ashamed about. As noted, his reach is still the same, and trying to be a standup guy invites him to being picked apart from the outside. If he reincorporates his wrestling he can give many a guy a rough time.
im taking dunham.

Me too.
But only because new Sherk thinks hes a striker.
NOBODY wants to fight Fedor, Except: Brock Lesnar, Shane Carwin, Frank Mir, JDS, Roy Nelson, Cain Velasquez, Matt "Kimbo Killer" Mitrione(by popular demand) and the rest of the UFC heavyweight division.
i would never bet on a 37yr old who hasnt fought in a year and a half. He should have gotten a warm up fight in.

He's food for Dunham
Dunham becomes WAY more marketable as a contender if he has beaten a former Champ

Could that picture make him look any smaller?? :D
Sherk is a little oldschool really, the new guys are coming through in all the weight divisions and making the dinosaurs (no offence Sean) look very poor. Think Bones Jones destroying all his opponents, Hathaway making Sanchez look like a schoolboy, GSP wiping out the middleweights and all the new heavyweight contenders… In a few years MMA will have evolved more than ever as the kids who grew up watching it on mainstream TV become contenders.
They need to make the Gomi Fight......
no cares to see the fireball kid KO the caveman. We wanna see him swimming with the muscle shark.

You're the first person I've seen say this
I like it. That would be a great fight, and you’re right, no one wants to see Guida/ Gomi.

Sherk can compete... he's still explosive
IMO, Sherk has primarily been standing with fighters since his fight with BJ. At this point in age he needs to stop listening to the fans bitch about him being a boring ass wrestler and go back to taking opponents down and GnP or Lay n Pray the hell outta ‘em, whatever the hell works. Sherk may have a few good years left, but not if he’s going to stand and bang with everyone.
are these new rumors?
Or recycled from yesterday, which were already shot down?

Yeah, it's all over the UG forums
if you hit my name, go look at my fanpost from last week about the initial rumors. It has the updated info.
What this could very well be
is a case of the UFC locking up a backup fight in case Cro Cop doesn’t pass the pre-fight test for his eye. MMAJunkie reported that he was going to have to be cleared before the fight. As far as it being removed from the betting sites, it might just be because the fight may not happen? I really don’t know.
I could see them replacing him
with either:
GG
Gilbert Yvel
Mitrione
They don’t have a whole ton of options.
We fight, get beat, rise and fight again.
Someone was saying Courture was an option.

Definitely an option
He took zero damage in his last fight. He won’t need to cut weight, and he doesn’t really get out of shape. I’m sure he’s already been called and asked to be on standby.
How could he not be an option? If he wins, I am sure they will want to give granddaddy Couture another title run in LHW or HW

I'm sure they will and a fight against Mir actually could be pretty good.

as somebody who will be there i hope cro cop is out and they put in either dos santos or big country,,either one of them would have better shot at beating mir then an old cro cop

But I can’t get over his teeny-tiny arms.

comeback
Ring rust could be a factor. But sherk is just so dominate imo. knowing his work ethic, he hasn’t stopped working out and his takedowns only could have gotten better. His reach can be the only thing that makes him lose but man he would be champ again if he had longer arms. his boxing is fast as hell
Sorry 'Muscle Shark'
you can’t juice anymore, you’ve lost your teeth!
I like the fact that he sounds a little angry. (At least it reads that way.)
It seems he feels he is being forgotten about and not liking that fact. I think we will get back to his old self and approach to the fight and use his wrestling advantages. The fact that he is not ranked in the top ten at LW is ridiculous considering the only people he has lost against are champions and #1 ranked fighters.
