"Hey Brock, stop eating so many raw eggs and doing so many push ups." Is what Chael Sonnen had to Say at the UFN Q&A. A few days later it's reported he popped on a steroid test. Brock has never popped on any test that I know of and from what I hear has an unbelievable work ethic. The better Sonnen quote is about Lance Armstrong:
"Lance Armstrong did a number of things and he gave himself cancer, He cheated, he did drugs, and he gave himself cancer. Well, instead of saying 'Hey listen, I cheated and gave myself cancer, don't be like me,' he actually made himself the victim and then went out and profited something like $15 million from this 'Hey, poor me, let's find a cure for cancer' campaign instead of just coming clean and saying, 'Look, here's what I did, I screwed myself up, and I hope people learn from my mistakes.'"
Now not only is Sonnen going to get shit about the getting cancer comment, but he also said Lance didn't just admit it, but made money. Well I'm betting Sonnen made a lot of money fighting and trash talking Anderson Silva at UFC 117, but I've also seen a tweet where Chael may blame flu medication. I've also seen people on the web defending that excuse which is just dumb and uneducated.
There is this thing called a banned substance list. We've seen multiple athletes blame a supplement or an over the counter medication for their failed drug test. I haven't seen too many suspensions over turned because of this though. The NFL has a huge list of banned substances that includes products that you can get at any GHC or drug store. Furthermore, ANY and EVERY professional athlete should know exactly what they are putting in their body. Not only for their health, but because in the long run it could affect their profession. If one "flu medicine" is on the banned list, I'm 100% positive that there is another that is safe to take.
Now for my opinion...It's a tough one for me. In baseball they had the steroid era where virtually everyone was taking them and it was essentially an even playing field. Flip side is how in this day and age can these guys fail if it's a piss test that is given? HGH is undetectable in urine! Why would someone risk their livelihood and more so their reputation, which in this case was gaining steam and gaining fans, when you could take another product, have the same or better results and not get caught? There are many cheater in every sport, and I absolutely hate them all! There were no steroid tests in baseball during the steroid era, so I give those guys a pass, but cheats in MMA who get caught (or in any sport), I can't forgive! I'll give Mr. Sonnen today before I pass my judgement, but the clock has already been ticking, most fans wanted an explanation about 36 hours ago!
