UFC Quick Quote: 'Big Nog' rooting for Cro Cop to beat Frank Mir in Indianapolis

Mir_nog_medium

"I'm rooting for Cro Cop. He's more humble! (laughs) Watch TUF and tell me why!"

-- Antonio "Rodrigo" Nogueira, who has been undergoing therapy to recover from recent hip surgery that prevented him from fighting Frank Mir in the UFC 119 main event in Indianapolis, Indiana, is pulling for his replacement, Mirko Cro Cop, to do his dirty work later this month."Minotauro" and Mir were opposing coaches on The Ultimate Fighter mixed martial arts reality series, which culminated with the pair battling for Nogueira's interim heavyweight title. Mir won, convincingly, stopping the durable Brazilian for the first time ever in his professional career. Nogueira has history with Cro Cop, too, winning with a come-from-behind submission after getting battered for nearly 10 full minutes. He's apparently more impressed with the way the reserved Croatian handles his pre- and post-fight business as opposed to the opinionated Mir. Is Mir's arrogance, for lack of a better word, something that makes not just "Big Nog" the only one who wants to see Mir get put in his place ... again?

Well Nog gets Mir next, so it doesn't matter who he is rooting for

Unless there is actually someone here who believes CroCop is still a fighter, I am sure everyone agrees.

BJ Penn is the biggest waste of talent in MMA history. Like usual, my pick was wrong and I blame a certain pudgy Hawaiin for my own short comings when it comes to talent selection. As it stands BZ – 3 Freenow82 – 1.

Cro Cop is still a fighter and one of my greatest idols

Josh Barnett couldn’t do shit against Cro Cop. I don’t think Frank Mir can do any better.

Anderson Silva will fall via brutal Republican dry-humping.

Barnett sucks at Striking, Mir may not be a kick boxer but hes a smart Striker usually and can out strike alot of fighters in his division. If your not a hater you will agree..

He has also evolved more since the old Pride days. Many fans judge fighters from three or for years ago?

CC would also get destroyed by Brock and Cain by the way.

lol CC would get destroyed by almost every single fighter in todays heavyweight division

As well as Strikeforce’s.

Mir is an average striker

His standup is decent, but no better than Nog’s was when he faced Mirko.

And Mir wouldn’t have survived that beating Mirko laid on Nog.

I doubt that.

You can say whatever you want about the past, and not be proven wrong.

Are we also say the old Mir? I would agree. Would the new CC beat the old CC?? Anyway the past is dead and only be remembered for what actually happened what could of happen is only a fairytale no matter how you spin it. The question is what would happen now?

…no?
Answer is pretty obvious. They realize it’s fantasy u don’t need to tell people it’s not possible to tell if something from the past vs something from the present would go down.

No matter how you state it doesn’t mean it would be true, even if you think it’s obvious. If CC never faced Randleman and someone asked if the old CC could beat Randleman I guarantee that would be obvious too that CC would destroy him. And don’t lie you know you would.

Even if he does beat CC n nog that’s as far as he will go. Mir will be a gatekeeper the rest of his career

by p rock on Sep 2, 2010 10:46 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Latley he only lost to..

Carwin and Brock, So losing to number one and two means your a gatekeeper? He already beat Brock and I know he could beat Carwin if he had a decent gameplan that did’nt involve getting his ass kicked.
Can you guys think with logic and stop saying so many things about the end of fighters career, We don’t know how anything will end so lets just focuse on whats happening now.

Funny thing is..

All I’m saying is that Mir has a shot against any HW in the world and all hes saying is Mir lost to them before, And his back up is that Mir got stopped. He may not see points very easily..

by guyverbob on Sep 3, 2010 12:36 AM EDT up reply actions

I agree, I think his chances are slim against the powerfull grapplers though

CC is a good grappler but no were near the strength of Cain, Carwin or Brock. Style wise he does match up good and if Mir lost to CC Mir will be off the title radar for good I think. But I can’t see that happening Mirs competition the last five fights is ten times better than CC’s and I believe it’s harder to work your way up the hill than down.

by Puck Head on Sep 3, 2010 1:08 AM EDT up reply actions

I do not think Mir has a shot against any heavyweight in the world.

I still see him as overrated. Beating Nog and Kongo, although good wins did not make me look at him any differently. The wins were more due to the very poor performances by his opponents and not because of any amazing talent that he posses. Nog looked completely useless and Kongo was too busy waiting fore the takedown and didn’t even bother protecting his head. I do not think he would beat Kongo again. As I said, the wins were good, but he is not that great and his stand up is only average if that, but people seem to be more bothered about the name of the opponent that was beaten on not how well they fought. Edgar and Florian are examples of fighters who have fought and beaten tough opponents who brought their a game, and for me it is easy to give them the respect they deserve based on this, but beating guys that do not put up a fight and then falling apart as soon as an opponent hits you in the face, gets nothing from me.

No thats not true, they may have looked poor but thats the way he made them look and thats how Carwin and Brock made him look.

i think mir is a super douche. BUT if the guy had a decent game plan and didnt make dumb decisions he could beat carwin and JDS. crocop coming in on short notice isnt winning. He’s just collecting a paycheck

I think Nog just doesnt like Mir like most of us.

Honestly… I think Nog wouldn’t like Mir even if he did win. Mir is an egotistical a=hole. However, I admire Mir in his comeback after a career ending accident and the way his ego came through for him in his difficult comeback road. I admire how D. White gave him tons of chances to make a comeback. All that is highly commendable. But there’s something about Mir line of BS n attitude that rubs people the wrong way. if anyone of us was his friend I bet you’d have a few bad things to say about him.,,,, Oh’’ I remember Mir saying he doesnt have any friends… I think he just doesnt give a sh*t about anyone else

by THORAZINE on Sep 2, 2010 10:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Doubt he cares about his family or parents right?
I think the real reason hes hated online, Is because he does’nt care what the keybored Warriors have to say, If he does’nt listen to us bitching then we can’t really do anyhting else but bitch more, Make sense?

by guyverbob on Sep 2, 2010 10:26 PM EDT up reply actions

lets not get that silly with family or parents... right?

1. ummmh lets just say he didn’t show much interest in his fighters on TUF or even trying to win the soccer match to get his guys a few extra $$$$… he just said ‘Nah’ not gonna try hard….. Frank ‘himself’ said he doesnt have any close friends’’’ so I think he does luv his parents and family and that’s just about it!

2. Mir doesnt listen to our bitchin?… yeah he doesn’t give a shit… all he has to do is be himself and we don’t like him…. that’s probably one of the reason he doesnt have friends… right?

Hahah i agree. Still a sad panda after getting his world rocked by Frank Mir then making childish excuses.

Go cry to your mama noggy boy. Frank is in a whole different league. Cro cop and nog arent even worth the while but i guess Frank Mir needs to shut up some of the near sided and closed minded fans and critics.

I like Mir as a fighter...

Mir’s made it in this business through a career ending injury, I was/glad, he made a comeback. But I like Cro Cop and Nog hellva’ lot more….This is a good point for Mir Vs CroCop to meet. I never thought much about CCrop until his UFC 115 interviews n fight. I think he just kinda needed to let it all hangout to be comfortable in the UFC, I hope he pulls it off.

Honestly

I think Cro Cop has a legitimate chance in this fight. Mir seems to get lazy with his defense and then gets cracked.

Wouldn’t want to get cracked by Cro Cop, the guy still has some of that power left.

Finish Him!

prediction

…It was obvious to me that Nog was not himself in the Mir fight… I wasn’t surprised at all when it came out that he had a staff infection afterwards. He had virtually no head movement or footwork at all & seemed unable to react to Mir’s strikes.
That aside, I think Cro-Cop matches up very well against Mir. Frank Mir is not a very good wrestler, & Cro-Cop has developed a great takedown defense over the years…. I don’t see Mir taking him to the mat to work his submission skills at all. I see this fight as a huge opportunity for Cro-Cop to get a big KO against a former champion that is frequently guilty of taking opponents lightly (exhibit A: Shane Carwin) & kickstart his career a bit. Go get it, Mirko….

by Erbros on Sep 3, 2010 12:25 AM EDT reply actions

the reason why Big Nog roots for & respects Cro-Cop

This link shows a very compelling interview with Cro-Cop, where even when about to face Nog in Pride, he whole heartedly defends his opponents courage & integrity as a man & a fighter. It’s filled with tension, but touching & made me a fan of Cro-Cop for life…

I dont know when you think about the common opponent they both share in Kongo it doesnt look to good for cro cop

But how great would it be for him to have that same confidence he had in 2006 and come out with a bug when.
