WEC 52: Urijah Faber vs Takeya Mizugaki rebooked for November 11 in Las Vegas

Faber-mizugaki_medium

Let's try this again.

After Urijah Faber was forced to pull out of his bantamweight debut against Takeya Mizugaki at WEC 50 last month because of a knee injury, the promotion has rescheduled the bout for WEC 52, which is set to go down on November 11 from The Pearl at The Palms in Las Vegas, Nevada.

MMA Weekly confirmed the news earlier today.

Faber was recently pushed out of the 145-pound weight class by reigning division champion Jose Aldo. Aside from a Jens Pulver submission win, "The California Kid" dropped consecutive fights to his temporary successor Mike Brown, first at WEC 36 and then again at WEC 41.

His frame may be better served at 135-pounds, but don't expect any liberties from Mizugaki.

Star-divide

The rugged Japanese brawler made a name for himself in his promotion debut, giving then-champion Miguel Torres all he could handle for five rounds in the main event of WEC 40 back in April 2009.

Since that loss, Mizugaki has gone 2-1 for the promotion, defeating Jeff Curran (WEC 42) and Rani Yahya (WEC 48) but losing on points to Scott Jorgensen at WEC 45. A convincing win over a "name" like Faber could possibly get him right back into contention.

Keep it locked to MMAmania.com for more news on WEC 52 as it breaks.

I think Faber takes this one fairly easily.

I’m not saying he’s not gonna have to work for it but a 30-27 Faber win seems likely. Let’s all hope we get to see a Faber/Jorgenson match in the near future.

since

Alpha Male teammate Beniavedaz lost his chance at the belt i could see Faber gettin his crack at the belt fairly quickly…then they feed Torres some cans…and have thier second ppv headlined w that superfight….As a big Faber fan, Jorgenson is the guy i want to stay away from…

by blakc_guy on Sep 2, 2010 5:43 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

understood, I don't think anyone wants a piece of him.

Faber already beat Cruz once didn’t he? They could set that fight up in a heartbeat, then provided Jorg beats Cruz you have the Faber/Jorg barnburner.

Yea Faber beat Cruz out of the division….and he can and will do it again…Jorgenson is the scary guy right now…and to me the guy that could derail faber….

I hope Faber blasts him

and then gets to beat the mullet off Torres.

Followed by Torres being rocked to sleep on Mir’s lap.

Torres isn't doin too hot lately

Sure isn't

I think he bought into his own hype, which could happen to anybody, and now it’s too late to recover. I do not see him making another run.

I wouldn't mind seeing him evolve

I enjoy watching him fight, but when Mir was commentating you had watch those puppies on mute. You woulda thought that Miz didn’t land one punch in his fight with Torres based on how he was talking.

Not only does BJ Penn quit on his stool versus guys that are bigger than him...He gets tooled by guys that are SMALLER than him. BJ should just stick to jumping out of pools, not fighting. I shoulda listened to Ulf.

by Deuce02 on Sep 2, 2010 3:52 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah, that was what started it for me

That fight was a lot closer than the commentary conveyed.

I mean, Torres was talking about fighting Mayweather for Christ sake. His ego just got way out of control. His analysis on MMA Live sucks, and the whole mean mugging thing he does on that Vs show that comes on after WEC is retarded too. Yup, pretty sure I don’t like this guy.

I remember watching some video of him and Mir doing a Q and A session and some guy was questioning Torres about his weight when he entered the cage and Torres said he weighed 155. The fan’s response was “is that with Frank Mir on your nuts or off?” I couldn’t stop laughing.

perfect example of a guy whose head got too big.

I used to be a fan. He has become rather annoying.

" think he bought into his own hype"

Could say the same for Faber.

Do not. I repeat, do not, go to mma-core.com. I made the mistake of watching a couple UFC 108 bouts on there and I am still trying to get all the viruses of my computer. Ridiculous! You've been warned.

Faber for the most part has carried himself well

Maybe people don’t like the cali/surfer type personality or his chin, but he’s never been flat out disrespectful and arrogant.

I figured I'd get a response for that one

I liked Torres and I don’ t think he’s done or anything he just wasn’t ready for the jump in comp.

Karo is back in the UFC...fighting Hallman at 123

For all you Karo fans like me…I’m glad he’s back and hopefully he really has his head on straight

You know what would make a good story? Something about a clown who make people happy, but inside he's real sad. Also, he has severe diarrhea.

he def had some great moments

But everytime I hear his name I can’t help but picture his face after the alves fight…pouting like a toddler who’d just been scolded in a toy store.

I always like watching high level Judo guys

hopefully he has his damn head on straight. I am not going to consider myself a fan again until I see him actually take a fight in the UFC, without drugs.

Should be a slug fest between two tough fighters, wonder how the cut in weight will effect Faber?

by EvolutionMMA on Sep 2, 2010 3:36 PM EDT reply actions

I will put my money on Mizugaki.

He’ll probably be like a 2 to 1 under dog. Faber’s first fight at 135 too.

by HappyLittleTreez on Sep 2, 2010 3:51 PM EDT reply actions

good...

good….hopefully more think like u and lay down money…so when i bet on faber itll better my odds

by blakc_guy on Sep 2, 2010 6:12 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Faber will take this

He is equaly as fast as most at 135 and he will be stronger than most as well. The cut wont be a problem for Faber. I think he will do great! Faber via RNC!

by DeRbHeAn on Sep 2, 2010 4:00 PM EDT reply actions

i actually feel the same way…even take it a lil further and say he should have a fairly long reign as the bw champ…he can and will beat cruz again…and Beniavedaz will beat the other challengers coming up…just my thoughts…faber can beat evryone at bw….unless Aldo moves down…

by blakc_guy on Sep 2, 2010 6:03 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

dont faber and benevidez train together?

how is that shit gonna work out i wonder? anyways, i too think that faber will take this fight, only it will be via a 3 round gnp decision

never have any regrets, because at the time, thats all you wanted to do

lol why do so many Far East fighters have the same stance?

I’ve seen it from Korean and Japanese fighters the most. The hands down by the waist, fist clenched. lol Makes me laugh.
