UFC Fight Night 22 medical suspensions and injuries for 'Marquardt vs Palhares'

Ufcmedicalsuspensions_medium

The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation today issued its list of medical suspensions for those who competed at the UFC Fight Night 22: "Marquardt vs. Palhares" event which took place on Sept. 15 from the Frank Erwin Special Events Center in Austin, Texas.

It was a clean sweep across the board as every fighter that saw action last Wednesday night will also see a medical suspension in one form or another.

The majority of suspensions were for precautionary reasons -- save for a couple of banged-up participants who must follow up with their doctors after taking abuse during the Spike TV telecast.

Heading up the list of the walking wounded is Jared Hamman, who joins Brian Foster on the sidelines for six months (pending medical clearance) after their performances on the evening's undercard.

Main event muscle-head Rousimar Palhares, along with veteran Forrest Petz, were both slapped with 30-day timeouts. But that's not all.

Here is the complete list of UFC Fight Night 22 medical suspensions (courtesy of mixedmartialarts.com):

Star-divide

Suspended until 03/15/11:

Jared Hamman
Brian Foster

Suspended until 10/16/10:

Rousimar Palhares
Forrest Petz

Suspended until 10/07/10:

Rafael Natal

Suspended until 09/30/10:

David Mitchell

Suspended until 9/25/10:

Nate Marquardt
Efrain Escudero
Charles Oliveira
Jim Miller
Ross Pearson
Gleison Tibau
Cole Miller
Kyle Kingsbury
Tomas Drwal
Dave Branch
Rich Attonito
TJ Waldburger
John Gunderson

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases.

Even though he does'nt really deserve it because he lost fair and square.

I would love to see a rematch of the main even, It was a good fight and pretty even for the time it was going on.

NOBODY wants to fight Fedor, Except: Brock Lesnar, Shane Carwin, Frank Mir, JDS, Roy Nelson, Cain Velasquez, and the rest of the UFC heavyweight division.

It looked competitive and I wouldn’t mind seeing it again as well. But everyone knows that Rousimar Palhares made the biggest mistake ever. Talk about a brain fart. Who knows, maybe Palhares was so shocked and in fear that he was looking for a way out.

I think Nate looked a lot more worried and tentative than Roster-bar.

Would definitely love to see a rematch or, Palhares/Bisping (after the sexy fight). That would be the one time that Paul harris can hold the leg lock as long as he wants, with no complaints from me.

+1

I’d like to see it because even though the whole greasing thing wasn’t a controversy after all, it did sort of in a weird “controversial” way. Which is Pelhares’ fault all the way but still

* "I don't think the injury was the cause for my defeat, I lost being in 100% condition at fight day. It's possible that Santiago might have been injured as well, I lost because my best was insufficient, only mortifying thoughts remain now. I think I would've entered the ring even if I lost one of my legs, I'm a fighter who fights, not with technique, but with heart."

agreed

It was interesting in that Nate was almost in a really bad spot, very early in the fight. This is all on Paully but I wouldn’t mind seeing what would have happened had he not acted like a jackass.

Not only does BJ Penn quit on his stool versus guys that are bigger than him...He gets tooled by guys that are SMALLER than him. BJ should just stick to jumping out of pools, not fighting. I shoulda listened to Ulf.
