Charles Oliveira ready to give 'his heart and his life' to fight with 'the best fighters'

Quoteworthy:

"Go Team Bronx! We are a complete school. I wanted to show that not only do I have jiu-jitsu, but I have strikes too because I fight stand-up (against Escudero). I know I made a lot of mistakes in the stand-up, but I do my best to keep it going, I'm training hard and getting better. I want to fight with the best fighters. All my fights, I give my life, I give my heart, it doesn't matter who I fight."

Undefeated lightweight sensation Charles Oliveira (14-0), fresh off his "Submission of the Night" against Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 8 champion Efrain Escudero at UFC Fight Night 22 in Austin, Texas, is ready for whatever the promotion can throw at him as he plows through the crowded 155-pound division. "Do Bronx" is just 20-years-old and has already created quite a buzz for his performances and penchant for finishing his opponents. Does the UFC wait and slowly develop him like they did with Jon Jones? Or does he jump out of the frying pan and into the fire? Let's hear your fantasy match-ups for this talented Brazilian.

Awesome, I really like this guy. 20 year old, good fearless standup, and great ground game.

Bright future for this kid.

Oliveira reminded me

of a modified version of Jose Aldo with the ease he displayed throughout that entire fight last night. It looked like he had Efrain outclassed everywhere including on the feet which I wasn’t expecting. His leg kicks were lightning fast, and he was throwing some impressive quick combinations. As we know from his previous SOTN his BJJ is ridiculous, he’s a very dangerous LW. I think he’ll have a lot of new fans after this fight, including me.

He did look similar, but his technique in the standup is far far away from Aldo.

But with his level of jits and because he is so fearless and doesn’t mind getting taken down, he will be a fan favorite forsure.

Agreed

He looked good, can improve a bunch of things in stand up, but at 20, with his last two fights, I’d like to see that guy fight 3-4 times per year. It’ll be crazy to see how he’s doing in 3-5 years.

Me too with those kicks

and all his dancing and wiggling and straight kicks reminded me of anderson silva a bit. i see this guy leaving a big mark on the LW division

i like him..he is scrappy..

needs some cleaning up of his style…but he is exciting to watch..glad he didn’t work himself out of it…feared he’d gas..good show ..(quietly stepping on the bandwagon) lol

I also liked how he looked like it was so much fun to be in that fight. He looked so relaxed and was all smiles. For some reason it made me like him even more

Complete school?

Wasn’t he saying that he doesn’t train wrestling because BJJ is superior a few interviews ago?

He did, but if his length and jits scares guys like Escudero, can't think of many guys not top 5 UFC that will want to wrestle this kid.

His transition to the back last night was sick. He just hopped on and cranked. I actually got up and yelled. He also was getting the better of Efrain standing up before that scramble.

Can you iagine thi skid in 5 years when he develpos his “man strength”?? WOW. Barring major injury, we could be watching this kid for the next 15 years.

U heard it from me 1st.

BJ is changing, it focuses more on wrestling now than it did before because a lot of wrestlers are making the transition and walking into BJ gyms, instructors are picking up a lot of the wrestling game. The sport of wrestling will stay the same, but BJ has a good chance to evolve and add wrestling to it… kinda like a hybrid of both sports. MMA adds the hybrid of GnP and standup putting it all together.

Bones jones is only 22...I belive he was 21 when he fought Bonnar...

and people are already asking to give jones a top 5er. Yes, jones has more fights in the UFC under his belt, but my point is that age shouldnt be too much of a factor. the degree to which he fights should be.

by Andrew Keller on Sep 16, 2010 12:54 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't think Bones should get a top 5'er, maybe a top 10. Bader, Forrest, Couture.

Someone that is good, but beatable…maybe not Bader, save that for a title fight in 2 years.

Personally, I think Hamill is etremely overated in his wrestling

he grabs for the take down and never shoots for it. It’s just sloppy if you ask me( I know you didn’t). Bader is a lot mor of an “athletic” wrestler.

Gomi-Oliveira would be awesome; be interesting to see if Oliveira could survive on his feet long enough to exploit Gomi’s jits weakness.

The kid's Jits' is scary good.

He makes it look effortless. Any time he’s in the clinch or guard you wonder what move he’s going to transition to for the submission. If I was any wrestler I’d be worried to take this guy down because he is nimble/slippery as a cat.

He Just (obviously)needs to work on that strength, but I have to wonder if his body type will always hinder his striking striking power.

I liked what I saw. You know he’s always gonna press the action and be in an exciting fight. But he’s a bit frail looking. Could stand to put on some muscle mass. Not sure if he can take a hit either.

impressive

I picked him to win so I knew he was good but the excitement he brings is what mma is all about. His skills are sick and to think he is only 20 is scary. Do bronx vs mangrino would b an excellant next matchup. They both just beat former tuf winners and neither would be facing a huge, possibly stifling step up or taking a step down.

Old enough to know better, young enough to enjoy it...

oliveira was definitly exciting

But he was very sloppy on the feet, he had some nice legkicks but escudero was countering him all night. But he does has a lot of potential if he puts some more muscle on he has some more power in his strikes and if he finetunes his striking he would definitly be a future star.
