After 'Bull----' fight with Paul Daley, Jorge Masvidal signs with Strikeforce for lightweight return

"That fight with (Paul) Daley was bullshit. I am ready to get back in there and kick some ass ... I signed a six fight, two year deal with Strikeforce. Let the world know I am going to knock out everybody they put in front of me. I don't have an opponent yet but I want a big fight; you know. I want Melendez or the next big name. No B-level fighters. Beerbohm is good but nobody really knows him. I would like to get Kawajiri, that would be great."
After dropping a unanimous decision to welterweight Paul "Semtex" Daley at Shark Fights 13 back on Sept. 11, former Bellator and Sengoku standout Jorge Masvidal drops back down to 155-pounds for his return to Strikeforce. "Gamebred" last appeared for the San Jose-based fight promotion back in 2008, outpointing Ryan Healy at "The Dome" in Tacoma, Washington, and it doesn't sound like the Miami native is interested in working his way to the top. But can he hang with the likes of Melendez, Kawajiri or even Beerbohm?

Nice pick up for SF
They should book:
Masvidal / Beerbohm
Masvidal / Shaolin Riberio
or Masvidal / Billy Evangilista
Stylistically, those would all be sick fights.

Masdival got the goods to be a tough fight for anyone in the Strikeforce LW division.
StrikeForce is stacking them chips up. The LW and HW divisions are looking good.
Hold on, he's going to KO everyone they put in front of him...
But you can’t do that by grabbing someone’s leg – which is pretty much all he did in the Daley fight.
It’s all well and good dropping down to 155lb but I was disappointed with the Daley fight, Masvidal did nothing to win it and yet most of the posters here think he was robbed. None of the surefire KO promise of the fight was there as only Daley was trying to push it – Masvidal just backed off and went for takedowns. I’m glad the judges saw sense.
Can't blame the guy for trying to win intelligently
When was the last time Daley was stopped on the feet? Ol yeah… never. Everyone knows Daley’s weakness is his ground game. Can’t fault Masvidal for trying to get it to the ground. I definitely wouldn’t want to trade with him. He is one of the best finishers in the ground on the feet.

oh I agree Cole, but then Masvidal shouldn't start all this talk of KO'ing everyone.
Just be a little humble and say he’s going to make a run at 155lb since it didn’t work out at 170lb and it’s more his natural weight.
i'm with you.
Sometimes i think guys just us the KO talk to get the fan’s into it. Realistically, if they said " I’m going to try to avoid standing and try to wrestle it to the ground" that conjure images of lay and pray.
Its a business, so they do what they can to promote themselves and their fights.

Well said, Jimrod
Another fighter trying to win a fight by simply controlling his opponent. Daley brought the fight to him all 3 rounds and did more damage in the last minute than Masvidal did or could’ve done fighting that way for 10 more rounds. Jorge just “evaded” and got a couple of takedowns and did next to nothing with them. I hate fighters that seem to play the points game from the first second they enter a fight. He was right about one thing though, the fight was bullshit. Too bad it was because of him. And the decision was correct.
hard for a 'tard
I didn't agree with the descision.
And I’m from the UK and was rooting for Daley. He is an exciting fighter, but one dimensional. He was agrresive but couldnt do anything with it. Why on earth would someone to stand and trade with him and fight to his strength, that would be exciting for most, but would be an absolutely stupid strategy. No fighter in their right mind would be stupid enough to trade with Leban or Daley. The Leban \ Sakara fight is a classic example. It is definitely more exciting to watch, but you are least likely to end up winning. The fight starts on the feet, and Daley had plenty of opportunities to connect or impose his will, but couldn’t do it. I am glad he won, but I do not think he should have. If the majority of fighters decided to engage and trade with the superior strikers and harder punchers in the sport just to make things more entertaining for some, than without doubt, they would lose a lot more fights than they would win. One dimensional strikers should try to be a bit more of a mixed martial artist, there opponents shouldnt have to make life easier for them by letting them get away with using their strengths in a fight. I do not agree with lay and pray, but no problem with someone staying busy. If striker is no able to make the most of it while they are on their feet, then they must improve their skills, or suffer the consequences.
who said anything about him having to engage with Daley?
He got some takedowns, but he did nothing with them. It was clear pretty early on that he was ONLY thinking of the decision win. Boring.
hard for a 'tard
Jimrod... Masvidal has been at 155 for years... He only has a handfull of fights at 170
Im not sure why they didnt find a natural ww for daley… But i think that makes the fight a lil more impressive for masvidal.. or looks bad for daley, that he could barely get a 155er off him. which ever way you look at it.

Yeah, "controllers" are spoiling MMA for me.
I’ve got no problem with takedowns if something is done with them – far too many seem content to just hold on for 3 rounds nowadays and most of the judges aren’t helping by giving them the W. If they’re not careful this could damage MMA just as it’s flourishing (more than Daley’s illegal blow ever would!). I remember seeing “divers” start this in soccer about 15 years back and thinking the same thing – look at the state that’s brought the game into now, it’s like kids play-acting being shot… :(
Controllers are not spoiling MMA, it's the judges that are doing it.
If controllers wouldn’t get the W, then they would do more to to damage and win the fight. If the judging system doesn’t get overhauled, MMA will peak relatively soon and then start slowly going downhill.
BJ Penn is the biggest waste of talent in MMA history. Like usual, my pick was wrong and I blame a certain pudgy Hawaiin for my own short comings when it comes to talent selection. As it stands BZ – 3 Freenow82 – 1.
I am just the opposite
Its the whiners bitching about being held down for 3-5 rounds that ruin it for me. Learn to get the fuck up. Simple really.
Not only does BJ Penn quit on his stool versus guys that are bigger than him...He gets tooled by guys that are SMALLER than him. BJ should just stick to jumping out of pools, not fighting. I shoulda listened to Ulf.
if Rashad beats Shogun by GSP, Sonnen takes the Silva rematch and Maynard takes the LHW belt...
That’s when we will see changes. As for now I kinda agree with you, but there is a point where we will need rule changes, if noone is able to stop the top wrestlers at all.

Why Sonnen.
He was giving Silva a hard time on his feet, and keeping busy and striking relentlessly on the ground. I enjoy a good striking match as much as the next guy, but watching Sonnen and GSP completely own guys who are supposed to be championship material and making them look helpless turtles tipped on their backs is as entertaining to me as any Leban or Daley fight. I can watch boxing anytime but this MMA, strikers need to adapt. Maynard and Fitch are boring, no doubt, but only a few fans who completely despise the ground game would call GSP going for subs and keeping busy and Sonnen boring on the ground.
good pickup for strikeforce,
dont know why this guy thinks he beat Daley though. He clearly didn’t.

maybe because he thought he won
He landed several takedowns but was unable to hold daley down, and daley did more damage on the feet.
