UFC 117: "Silva vs. Sonnen" from the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif., is set to go off tonight (Sat., Aug. 7) live on pay-per-view (PPV) beginning at 10 p.m. ET.
Immediately following the event, promotion president Dana White and a handful of participating fighters will be on hand for the UFC 117 post-fight press conference, which is now embedded below (after the jump) for an approximate 1:30 a.m. ET start time.
Be sure to tune in for post-fight reactions from all the major players as well as up-to-the-minute results of all the post-fight bonuses including "Fight of the Night," "Knockout of the Night" and "Submission of the Night."

I haven’t seen a replay yet, but from memory Chael kept trying to fight like he didn’t tap, but Anderson and the ref was trying to push him off.

Apparently Silva was hurt, which might bring an asterisks to the victory. But that was domination. I’d be shocked if he doesn’t get an immediate rematch.

While yes Chael did dominate for 4 rounds the 2 recent examples where Dana gave immediate rematches (Shogun-Machida, Penn-Edgar) were both controversial decisions whereas this one was a definitive finish by Silva despite his losing the first 4 rounds. I say put Sonnen against Belfort with the winner getting a title shot. Vittor has had trouble with wrestlers historically so Sonnen would have a good shot of getting the rematch. Just a thought.

Well I’m not Mr. White, but I’d make an exception for this one. I agree the victory was definitive, no doubt. But no one has come close to doing that to Silva. And I’ve had the impression for the longest time that Dana has long been running out of options in the MW division given what short work Silva’s made of everyone. The fact that someone has come in and proven that they can actually dominate the guy for 4.5 rounds might be too enticing for him to pass up. Belfort would be a gamble.
No Chael vs Belfort
if they’re gonna stall the rematch, give Chael someone else while Belfort faces Silva. Silva’s confidence is at an all-time low. Now is the time to give Silva Belfort if not Chael.
Granted Sonnen did own Silva for 4.5 rounds
But Silva finished him. Sonnen shouldn’t be given an immediate rematch but I’d say he would be 1 or 2 fights (with dominating finishes) away from a rematch.

historically, have we ever seen a 24 minute beatdown end in a comeback.
Also, I think there should be some rule about how many times you have to tap. One tap leaves too much room for interpretation. I think it should have to be 3 to be clear. Neither Sonnen nor Silva seemed to think it was a tap, cause they both kept fighting, with Sonnen escaping the triangle and Silva still holding on to the armbar.
That's an interesting rule proposal, man. 3 taps and it's considered "uncle".
But Chael Knows he tapped. No argument from him. So props for choosing to be a Good loser instead of a sore one.

Sonnen tapped and Silva let the triangle go, Chael was unsure and kept fighting. there was absolutely zero debate as to if he tapped or not. A minimum number of taps? Thats just stupid! mma isa “gentlemen’s” sport. If you put a minimum, that leaves room for guys getting hurt.

guys are gonna get hurt in the miliseconds between the 1st and 3rd tap. A guy can be doing all sorts of things that look like a tap.
If Anderson thought it was over and just let go of the Triangle, why was he still working the armbar 10 seconds after the tap? And if Chael knew he tapped, why was he still fighting?

Sonnen says he has a hard time getting out of chokes, it’s panic and tension, if Fitch can handle it, so can Sonnen if he learns to remain calm.

Sonnen did tap once. The CB-Dolloway tap. He seems to have a history of refs mistaking his taps and no taps. But regardless, I saw a tap. I was immensely disappointed. After seeing Chael humble Andy for 4 rounds, I wanted nothing more than for him to ride out another 5 minutes and subsquently turn the 185 lb division upside down and inside out. Oh well though.
Fitch did another Unanimous Fitch. Bunch of takedowns and submission grappling. Alves has been out for over a year, so did anyone really expect otherwise?
Shame Guida/Dos Anjos ended the way it did. Hard to believe that Guida busted a guys jaw. I never would have guessed Guida had that type of power, but it must have been the perfect punch. Dos Anjos was up 2 rounds in my book.
Wow. I am one of the few HUGE Matt Hughes supporters that is still public about it, and I didn’t think he had much of a shot against Almeida. Ricardo was coming down from 185 so he had a size advantage, and was a bit less beat up in this sport than Hughes is. But Matt dropped him, and choked him unconscious? Who guessed that? A reverse, inverted arm triangle choke? Sherdog calls it a modified anaconda choke. Whatever it was, damn. Go HUUUUGHES!!
JDS wasn’t able to put Big Roy away. More credit to Roy than a knock on JDS. Nelson has a Goddamn chin on him or what? I was on the edge the whole time because I couldn’t count out a single overhand right to put JDS on queer street. That, and I was on the verge of losing my sig bet to Dave on the fight. So David, you got me on this one, I’ll await my humilitating sig.
Haze gets stopped by Story?? I wouldn’t have thought that. Sure, Story is a stocky little powerhouse, but Haze creates submissions out of anything. Sad to see him lose 2 in a row. Hopefully he comes back with some more highlight reel tapouts.

I have to say again that Sonnen is going to be kicking himself for a long time....especially after this....
I remember just before he got triangled, he was in full-guard and then leaned back and just started jabbing(not punching) away at the body. He should’ve kept doing that…..
There are two ways to avoid the ONLY submission available to Anderson there.
Firstly, you do what Chael had been doing for the first four rounds, which was essentially closing all of the distance between his chest and Anderson’s every time Andy looked to open up his guard and bring the knees up in an offensive posture.
The second way (which is more risky against a guy who has proven he’s not against upkicking an open guard top opponent) is to sit all the way back on your calves like Chael was doing in round five. This has the demerit of leaving Chael in a less controlling position.
The problem is, Chael combined the worst aspects of the two (probably because he was excruciatingly tired/gassed) and laid his head on Anderson’s belly. There is literally NO WORSE WAY to defend against a triangle choke, which was pretty much Anderson’s only offensive option at that point.
Chael got tired physically and/or mentally, and paid the price.
Rematch I have Chael knocking Anderson out early on. If he had any fear of Anderson’s power, it’s gone now, and he knows he has more than enough standup to put Anderson Silva away. I would say he was fairly dominating the standup, outside of getting tagged in round 4(?).

i mean, the way i see it, sonnen gave silva the first real fight of his life. i liked what i saw in both of them and i don’t even care much for either fighter.
