The mouthy ex-politician refuses to break political kayfabe and even tells Ariel Helwani that he's never spoken to bodybuilding's brawny bulletin broadcaster despite five separate interviews across the span of two years. So has Sonnen been too busy with media interviews to keep track of who he's spoken to and what he's said? I listened to that Pro MMA radio show LIVE and Chael’s interview lasted about 30 minutes. He talked about many many many different things. This dude is quacked out of his mind if he thinks he’s gonna get away with all this bullshitting. Maybe he forgot that THE INTERNET EXISTS!

it was more like 2 rounds of dancing and 3 rounds of running away
and maybe 40 seconds of fighting somewhere mixed in there. Sonnen’s been running his mouth but at least he thinks he can win, which is more than you can say about most of Silva’s opponents.

Chael’s talking is done. He’s now been a proven liar. Yes, he has excellent wrestling and has the ability to possibly win, but its doubtful. However anything is possibly in MMA. Isn’t that why we all love this sport?
For him to call out Lance Armstrong on a radio interview, and than completely deny it in a video interview shows poor character.
In the beginning I was enjoying the way he was hyping the fight, because it is the truth that Anderson doesn’t hype his fights. It has gone way overboard though. he’s just a prick looking for attention. His 15 minutes of fame will be up after UFC117.

I care far more about what happens inside the octagon than what happens out of it. Sonnen’s trash talk has no relevance. Anderson has had three horribly shitty fights… Leites, Cote, and Maia. I’m pretty sure all 3 of those fights were main events.
If you take Sonnen’s nonsense for what it is and just laugh at it, it’s not a big deal. I don’t think he really gives a shit who he offends or what he says. He’s just rambling. The more seriously people take him, the bigger his star power grows.

i 100% agree what takes place in the cage is far more important than trash talking, my hatred for sonnen after recanting his statement just angered me far too much. I will say this though, i only hold anderson at fault for the maia fight, not the Leites or cote. Honestly, i was in montreal at the leites fight and we were booing LEITES not anderson, why would anderson drop to the ground with a world class BJJ guy who just keeps flopping to the mat?? that fight was almost entirely leites’ fault. And in the cote fight, anderson hit him with a couple SOLID knees and strikes but cote didn’t drop….then he blew out his knee. How can you fault anderson for cote’s knee blowing out?? The maia fight…complete bullshit i agree lol As for sonnen’s trash talking, i think its more the fact that he actually believes what he is saying (analogous to ffloyd mayweather’s take on mma) even though it is all lies and bullshit. I can’t listen to a guy call another guy a liar like 20 times and then blatantly lie right after that, its just too much. I also agree that fueling the fire raises the guys star power, but not if the stupid mma journalists did their job and called him out on it, i would really just like to see that happen. From watching the video, I think Chael honestly thought he had never said anything about Lance Armstrong. He appeared to be telling a “truth” that at least he believed. Obviously, he was wrong. I think he forgot.
This isn’t an excuse. If you’re in the public eye and you start talking crap about a celebrity, you should keep tabs on the things you say.
Moreover, you should remember the media outlets/personalities who you give interviews to, especially one you’ve been interviewed by 5 times over 2 years.
i think if Chael were approached by someone who quoted his exact words on the Armstrong bash, he’d remember saying it. It’d be interesting to see if he’d fess up to it or still claim he never said it. his response was very much like a politician’s, and that’s disappointing.
I don't blame him for taking advantage of his 15 minutes of fame. If he loses - he got some much needed publicity for his career anyway. If he wins - he looks like a genius. I am an Andy fan but people don't realize the intelligence of Sonnen's plan.

I think everyone was ok with it at first. Even if he wanted to keep talking he could've done so. I think it's the blatant lies that piss everyone off. It's an insult to our intelligence to try to pass off the things that he claims.
Of course you’re right OJR, everyone wants to see the fight now. I just think he could’ve accomplished that end while still being the good guy that people would still want to watch even if he loses. Sonnen is a decent guy, Silva is a decent guy but in this instance what we’re witnessing is entertainment. While both these guys’ antics can rub anyone the wrong way, we’re entertained and the UFC’s current valuation is probably well north of $1B. So Sonnen and Silva are doing their things, being business people, employed by a business.
Sonnen can run his mouth all he wants. He’s within his legal rights and frankly, someone needs to make entertaining comments before the fight. I don’t have a problem with either of these guys and everyone on this forum should calm down and not take what these guys say too seriously.

Prediction: I keep thinking of Rd 1 Hendo v. Silva and I can see it happening again (especially after Sonnen and Okami) however, I think Silva’s ability to be well-rounded and dangerous on the feet bode well for him at the beginning of each round and I don’t think the judge will allow for Sonnen to have top position for 23 minutes without standing the fight up, so, Silva via TKO Rd. 3.
