Report: Vitor Belfort vs Yushin Okami to headline UFC 122 on Spike TV in Germany

2013857_bin_medium

UFC 122 is set to take place on November 12 in Oberhausen, Germany. The event will air on Spike TV in the United States via tape delay. And now, it looks like UFC 122 has a main event.

From The Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer (via Bloody Elbow):

Vitor Belfort vs. Yushin Okami will be the main event of UFC 122 on 11/13 in Oberhausen, Germany. This will be a Spike show in the U.S. The winner will likely face the Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen winner for the middleweight title sometime next year.

I think most people probably saw this match up coming. With Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen set to run it back sometime early next year, Belfort and Okami were left behind to face each other with a title shot awaiting the winner.

Belfort of course has been nursing an injury that kept him out of his scheduled UFC 112 title fight against Anderson Silva earlier this year. "The Phenom" was last seen in action at UFC 103 where he finished Rich Frankin in the first round in his first fight back with the promotion since 2005.

Star-divide

Yushin Okami, the proverbial top contender in the UFC's middleweight division, will finally get a chance to fight for a title shot. Seemingly always in the "mix," Okami has been passed over when it comes to the division's big fights likely due to his less than thrilling fighting style.

While it may not be fair, it's probably a fact.

Yushin has won two straight fights with his most recent victory coming at UFC on Versus 2 against Mark Munoz. "Thunder" has gone 9-2 during his tenure with the UFC with his only losses coming at the hands of Rich Frankin and Chael Sonnen.

A win over Belfort coupled with another successful title defense from Anderson Silva against Chael Sonnen would set up an interesting rematch between the two fighters as Okami was the last man to defeat Silva, albeit controversially, back in 2006.

Keep it locked to MMAmania.com for more news on UFC 122 as it breaks.

No way Okami takes this one?

When has Belfort shown a solid game off his back? Especially versus a solid-to-good wrestler?

I think Okami could easily win this, but I agree with what seems to be the consensus that Vitor will pull out the win, but I see it as a close 60/40 fight.. Okami better get this to the ground and not hang around on the feet

LOL that shit is soo fucked up man

Okami will never get a title shot poor Okami, then again once Vitor knocks out Andy he can still get that rematch.

Okami by late submission or UD

Just bad, bad, BAD matchup for Vitor. Okami’s got the striking defense to survive on his feet and the wrestling to plant Belfort on his ass repeatedly.

Anderson Silva will fall via brutal Republican dry-humping.

good to see you back. any chance mir odds up on our site? -200 mir.

i put 400 on mir to beat cro cop. mirko said he would be 80% and mir is saying this is the same guy who was great in pride. mir is finally being a little smart. say good things about your opponent instead of all the zhit you said about lesnar. i think this goes only three minutes before mir subs mirko.

penn failed us but i give props to edgar. great head movement.

what is funny is when maynard and edgar fight it might be the first time that the guy with the belt is the dog in both fights. first penn and next edgar.unless someone can tell me different? i could see maynard at -150 in that fight. i think people saw penn turn into an old man last night. maynard has got cardio and takedowns and he took edgar down easily in his last matchup and said afterwards that edgar was easy to take down b/c he is small. now, i do think edgar has improved alot but is it enough for him to win?

i would like for maynard to beat edgar and then fight evan dunham after he beats sherk

i got 400 on dunham at -200 to win 200 on that too. on our site it’s a -240. better odds in vegas. i think dunham will be champion. he might have to go thru george s. too.

This is an easy win for Yushin.

Bad match for Vitor trying to fight for the belt, he will lose and get sent backtracking.

If Okami chucked a deuce at the Sherk gameplan and actually enforced his wrestling

This should be easy an easy win.

Vitor takes this

Vitor has faced good wrestlers in the last couple of fights and all put them to sleep and I can see Vitor keeping it standing for long enough to do some damage that will put Okami away. Belfort has a good ground game too, so even if it does go the ground he will get back up and try and tap that chin.

Okami's a pretty good striker, though.

He’s pretty much the epitome of a B+ fighter in all facets of the game. Really well-rounded (unlike Roy Nelson well-rounded).

Okami is historically the type of fighter that mentally break Vitor.

After one round of wrestling and pinning him into the mat, Vitor will close up shop and exit the fight like BJ did. Okami UD.

I'd love to see vitor win

I think he can do it. Sonnen who is a better wrestler than okami thinks vitor would be his toughest fight so who knows vitor I think has a great chance. All he needs is one clean hit and his bjj is nothing to laugh at either
