Can you comprehend this happening anytime soon?
BJ Penn thinks it could be worse ... like having a former WWE superstar (ahem, Brock Lesnar) reign supreme as UFC champion.
See what he has to say right here.

Im not sure how anyone could think Brock being champ is a bad thing.
Hes a legitimate athlete with a world class background. So what he made money with WWF-hwo gives a shit.
James Toney is a fucking clown monkey who awaits a bear rape come fight night.

I kinda agree
both guys are good athletes, only difference is when he’s speaking, people can actually understand what Brock says.
thats definitely is a key factor lol
and im not so much as sayin Toney would be bad rather that Brock is in NO way negatively impacting MMA as a legitimate sport by being THE champ.

He has proven himself now.
lets not get into title shots.
SF gives shitle tots to guys with losses. COuture got his shot in the same number of fights as Brock, and surprisingly it DID NOT negatively effect MMA. Did it.
The title shot complaining is ridiculous.

we had this conversation yesterday Roberto
I’m a Brock hater, at the same time I don’t see ANYONE beating him anytime soon. I also don’t give a rats ass about celebrity, bottom line is, the UFC, Strikeforce etc is a business, last time I checked, the goal of a business is to make money. So giving Brock a title shot after 3 or 4 mma fights, but actually on a 2 fight win streak is better than giving guys a shot when coming off of a loss like strikeforce does, isn’t it? You said yesterday that UFC is making mma “not a sport,” but to be honest you lost me! I 100% respect ur opinions and passion that you have, but in the last 24 hours you’ve really lost me Roberto.
ok ok kevjack, absolutely fine.
I don’t need everyone to get me. let’s say you’re an upcoming fighter in mma and maybe in the UFC, wouldn’t you be a little pissed off if someone more famous a little less classy guy with a worse record got a shot before you? I know i would and the message they’re sending is that you need to be a drama queen a la to get noticed.
your mother !
I get that
but I’d understand it’s a business. Also it obviously worked out (Brock) he’s the champ. I don’t think David Beckham would get a title shot because he’s a celebrity. Brock is a legit HW beast with REAL wrestling credentials and a work ethic second to none. It hurts me to say that since I’m not a fan, but it’s a fact. What threw me off was how upset you got that Dana (for the first time I can remember) said he hopes Randy wins, saying it’s corrupt, but had no answer when I asked what was the difference when Coker brought in Dan Henderson to specifically beat Jake Shields. I know you don’t NEED me to “get you,” but I truly want to!
wouldn’t you be a little pissed off if someone more famous a little less classy guy with a worse record got a shot before you?
THATS BUSINESS

Exactly.
Brock worked hard in the WWE for many years and got famous and gained a big fan following.
So what that the hypothetical newcomer guy has a couple wins and more diverse MMA training? It’s mixed martial arts and wrestling is one of the major “arts”. So technically Brock has prolly more training than any newcomer you can up with since he was one of the best wrestlers, division1-champ and has trained since he was a child.
Bullets dodge Fedor.
how so Roberto? please elaborate
NO ONE is going to beat Brock. So he got a title shot a little sooner than other HW’s. It’s not like Cain or JDS stand a chance against him, and by your definition, they’ve “earned” their shot. EVERY sport has it’s guys that make the organization money. Yesterday you mentioned the U.S. being at fault and thats the reason soccer is so great, followed by tennis. I don’t know much about soccer, but what I do know is that there are a shitload of riots (which I’ve never seen in mma) and from what I’ve heard (only on ESPN) is that the sport is filled with racists. You also mentioned tennis which is notorious for corruption and gambling controversy (people throwing matches).
Cain and Junior actually both stand a very good chance in my opinion
Size isn’t everything and they will both have a huge speed and striking advantage over Brock as well as good cardio (moreso Cain) so they won’t gas after the first 3 minutes a la Carwin. They’re both very real threats to Brock’s belt and I honestly believe that both guys should have received shots before the likes of Carwin and Mir (who seemingly got fastracked to the interim belt because they bashed Brock not because they’re the best).
As for Brock’s early title shot I don’t have a problem with that because Mir and Nog were already set to fight for the interim belt and were filming TUF when Randy returned, so someone else had to fight for the title. It was either Brock or Werdum and whilst Fabricio was unlucky to miss out and certainly did because of marketablity factors rather than record and talent, there is still a good case for Brock to have gotten the shot as well (destroying Herring who Nog squeaked by to earn an interim shot, giving Mir a beating before losing after a dodgy ref call which earnt Frank an interim shot) so I don’t see the problem with making those fights.
Yes Cain and Junior have had to wait too long for their crack at the belt and certainly they should have faced each other for the next shot to determine one undisputed contender but at least they are both set to get their shots now. The HW division is a lot more stable and fair than it is in any other promotion in MMA (especially SF) or even boxing (just look at the crappy title fights being booked for proof of that e.g. Vitali-Briggs, Haye-Harrison).

Cain's striking isnt great
But better than brocks horrid display. Brock will have the power in his shots that Cain wont. Brock is a pretty fast guy as well. I see Cains only chance at a win being similar to that of an Edgar-esque performance.
As for JDS, his hands are obviously leagues above Brocks, but if he didnt put Country out idont see him putting Brock out. JDS would/will get taken down and beat on.
The best shots at brock are as follows:
Carwin
Cain
JDS
Overeem
Fedor

thats the thing David
Roberto mentions Brock getting an “early” shot, but doesn’t mention the fact that Cain and JDS didn’t have to fight each other. I have more of an issue with that.
I understand both guys have a shot against Brock, I just think the odds that they win are slim. It’s not based on Brock’s size (although that has a lot to do with it), but his wrestling. IMHO wrestling is the best base for mma, and brock’s wrestling is great. Then add to that his size and strength and I see an unbeatable force!
Oh and football has very little racism or crowd trouble in this country
It’s an international sport and is played in many different places including countries where social problems like racism and rioting are common. This is not caused by football, the sport simply reflects the social attitudes and climate of the area it is played. You can’t label a sport for having problems just because some areas in which it was played has these problems.

ok, I honestly know nothing about soccer
but I remember reading an article that said even players on certain teams are notoriously racist. Like I said, I know nothing about it, where I’m from soccer is played by girls and gays. The only time I’ve ever had a soccer game on the TV is literally when I needed a nap!

nothing to do with being american
I’m talking where I went to high school. I’m not ignorant to the fact that it’s the #1 worldwide sport, I just don’t get it.
the gay debate though is pretty huge.
if there ever was a gay, he’d never admit it in public.

Where?
IN America and more specifically the California it is about to be legal same sex marriage. The gays drown every damn corner with the honk if your homo signs.

ntohing to do with America?
I think nationally, America recognizes Soccer least of all major countries. Its the number sport in the world but in America is second fiddle to Baseball, football, and basketball.
It has little to do with your highscool and more to do with the overall feelings on soccer by the majority of america (god i sure am speaking for a lot of people huh).

i've actually heard and read.
that soccer is the biggest sport if u count the number of practicioners, at least up until a certain age.

Really????????
Number 1 sport in America??
I guess, like kevin, its where i grew up.
Im greatly mistaken then as i thought, undoubtedly the NFL, NBA, MLB dwarfed soccer-here.

in media and in money yes.
not sure how many football players or b-ball players there are though.
your mother !
Roberto is right
My son has been playing football since he was 4, but soccer is huge.
I was joking about gays, I have no issues with homos, if anything I think it’s sad that 2 people of the same sex don’t have the same rights as you and I do if they are in love (benefits, custody etc), I mean if you’re in love, you’re in love, you can’t help who it is you fall in love with!
Soccer is also one of the few sports that you cna play with a ball
That the cost are low but as far as serious soccer goes on a competitive level that drops greatly were I’m from anyway and thats were most of the drop of comes from when are there is to choose is competitive leagues that cost too much.
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson
RoB it appears i was correct.
In the United States today, a reasonable estimate of the popularity order might be: * NFL (National Football League) * NBA (National Basketball Association) * MLB (Major League Baseball) * NCAA football (college football) * NCAA basketball (college basketball) * NASCAR (stock car racing) * WWE (professional wrestling) * NHL (National Hockey League) * AFL (Arena Football League) * WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association) * MLS (Major League Soccer) * IRL (Indy Racing League) Some might challenge whether basketball is above baseball in the US. Baseball is “America’s Pastime” and still holds a special place in many Americans’ hearts. The popularity of college sports is often underestimated by people who don’t follow these leagues. For an example of the size of their fan bases, here is the capacity of a few college football stadiums: * Tennessee’s Neyland Stadium: 104,079 * Michigan’s “Big House”: 107,501 * Ohio Stadium, “The Horse Shoe”: 101,568 * Penn State University’s Beaver Stadium: 107,282 2004 attendance numbers for all 118 Division I-A schools was 30,270,687. That’s just Division I-A college football, it does not include other divisions or other collegiate sports.

yea of course u are right.
soccer cannot compete in popularity or money, because media is not into the sport. What i’m saying is that u have as many soccer practicioners up until a certain age as in any other big sport or more, then they quit b/c the money’s not there.

It goes both ways man
American Football is not in the media outside north america. As far as soccer practicioners go I think Kevin kind of hit it on the head as soccer is not an exciting sport, I like watching Rugby over soccer anyday. Baseball and Soccer go together for me “snooze fest”.
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson

Never heard of "gays" being big into soccer!
Anderson Silva is by far the number one P4P king!!! Even when he is losing a fight he still comes back and finishes for the win! GSP dominates the whole fight and still can't finish! LOL
there are racists all over the world and yes there's been some scandals in tennis like in all other sports.
you see the problem with they’re way of going about things in America is to promote the company over the sport, like (NFL, NHL, MLS, MLB) and if you look a little closer into it, you’ll see a couple of things, but the main thing is that it’s so much about business and the company making money and growing that it chokes out the whole sport. Where in other sports and other countries you promote the athletes and the best clubs/athletes makes the most money by performing the best, and they also get to play in the big league. In america you have all the cities with big money joining, just because they happen to have money.
your mother !
I disagree
the best athletes here make the most money. I don’t think I’ll ever change the way you think (and I’m not trying to), but the point of a business is to make money. If MLS (not sure if thats the league you watch) was losing money, you wouldn’t have a sport to watch!
Football is becoming a commercialised sport as well
It has been ever since the advent of the Premier League and the Champions League. I don’t like it as I prefer sport to be purely about competition not making money and selling it as a product. Because of these leagues, teams are overpaying their players and monopolising the sport as only those owned by billionaires from the UAE, US, Russia etc are able to buy the best players and produce the best teams.
I’d much rather see MMA put on the most relevant and competetive fights possible than trying to put on the most marketable cards but Zuffa’s matchmaking is working, their brand is successful and their PPVs are selling so their way of doing business won’t change any time soon. As long as they put on the fights that I want to see then I’m happy, it’s when awful but marketable fighters like Kimbo are signed or big fights are not booked to protect the top guys that I complain.

yes david, it's too bad and i hate it. FIFA is much worse than UEFA.
There should be no room for controversy in sports, especially when there’s so much money on the line.

There is controversy in life all the time, as there is in all sports
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson
yes, but u have some fools that are not even making an effort to correct it.
and that’s a big fat turn off on a sport, when there are holes for corruption.

Superb win mate
I was at a music festival this weekend so missed the game but when I heard the score I made sure everyone else knew to haha. Not bad for a team tipped to go straight back down . It’ll be a tough season but I’m confident that we will get enough points to stay up, we are a tough team to beat at home now.

I loved the previous Newcastle game, personally. I am just stoked that all 3 of Man U’s games have been televised over here so far. I am unsure if they will be showing the West Ham game, so I may have to catch up with that on the review show. Good to have the magpies back in the top league.
"We fight, get beat, rise, and fight again."
I agree Roberto!
Especially bc Dana is always saying how he is wants to legitimize the sport! You don’t see the Yankees in the world series every year bc they are the most popular team and would make MLB the most amount of money, do you? It’s all about the money and nothing about the sport!
Anderson Silva is by far the number one P4P king!!! Even when he is losing a fight he still comes back and finishes for the win! GSP dominates the whole fight and still can't finish! LOL
Let's go Toney!
I want him to win so we can have more of this entertainment. I for one find him very funny and would like to see him win.
Maybe he can face the winner of CroCop-Mir if he knocks Couture’s head off?

Not only busted for roids several times, but he must of been using something else – he’s already talking like Ozzy Osborne I have to concentrate so hard to understand the interviews.
