M-1 Global & Fedor Emelianenko: 'We want Alistair Overeem'
Fedor: "This is an important match for me and something that I personally want to happen. There have been conversations about putting this match-up together in the past and now is the time to begin making this bout possible."
Evgeni Kogan: "As a global mixed martial arts company committed to driving the evolution of the sport and showcasing match-ups that the fans deserve to see, we want to make this bout a reality in 2010."
Well, it doesn't get any more clear than that. After years of speculation that Fedor Emelianenko and M-1 Global wanted nothing to do with current Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem, it appears as though Team "Last Emperor" is finally ready to make this mega-fight happen. In a joint press release from M-1 Global and Fedor himself, the Russian heavyweight has now officially placed the ball in Overeem's court. I'm not even going to ask if anyone is opposed to this match up, because even considering Fedor's recent shocking loss, this fight is among a handful of dream bouts that fight fans have been waiting for. So, if the folks at Strikeforce, or whatever promotion this battle takes place under, and M-1 Global along with "The Reem's" camp can all come together and bring this showdown to fruition, who ya got? Does Emelianenko's first loss in a decade have you leaning toward Overeem? Or, was the Werdum defeat nothing more than a, dare I say it, fluke, while Fedor is still the same cold-blooded killer he always has been? Opinions, please.

I hate to say it
It is painful. But, this is the one time I want SF to do what they have always done. Come on SF- give the guy who just lost a title shot already. Do it.
"We fight, get beat, rise, and fight again."
I've got Reem... that bet is accepted.
Anderson will DESTROY Sonnen every time they fight. Surviving 4 rounds doesn’t mean anything. Maia and Leites are way better than Chael. That loser will be cut very soon
do you guys
believe that the haters will stop hating so much if and when Fedor beats Reem. Does this restore his legacy to those people (I believe no matter what, his legacy stands, he could lose the next 5 and I will still respect his accomplishments)?
"We fight, get beat, rise, and fight again."
Deuce many so called haters don't think Fedor sucks
Many just believe he has not been fighting the best and many believe he is no longer the best that doesn’t make them a hater. I don’t think Wandy is the best anymore and he’s my fauvorite the problem is if you think Fedor is the 3rd or 4th best Fedor fans take that as hate?
Fighting Overeem would be a fight worth while and the winner faces Werdum next year. And if this fight actually takes place but I’m not holding my breathe yet as M1 stated they wanted a contract extension with SF and I think SF has seen with proof that Fedors cost are too high for them to extend. M1 could easily be trying to use finally a fighter the fans want to see Fedor fight to maybe get these terms? Let’s wait and see what Overeem and SF’s response will be then talk about the possible fight.
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson
Anyone actually believe this?
They also used to say the ball was in the UFC’s court to sign Fedor. Unfortunately he is a Russian DOUCHEBAG that talks a big gmae and then hides behind management. We all heard Overeem, if Fedor ever really wanted this fight it would have been signed.
Nothing Ever Changes When Nothing Ever Changes
When has Fedor talked a big game? And when did Overeem's word become gold?

Yup
But it’s too late now because Overeem has already decided to fight in K-1 while M-1 was sitting on their hands trying to pull shit
well isnt that convenient for m-1
Now overeem has decided to fight at the final 16, m-1 calls him out.
They want to make it look like they arent ducking him.
Gtfo m-1, fedor really needs to leave m1 (eventhough he is co owner or something) just like mousasi did

So
M-1 ducks Overeem the first time this fight should of been made by going into contract renegogiations which is what caused Reem to fight Rogers instead of Fedor. Not Overeem commits to K-1 and all the sudden M-1 is saying we wanna fight this guy. Weak attempt to save face.
Overeem is right, never thought I would say that, Fedor shoudl fight Silva and the winner gets the winner of Werdum and Overeem. If not it completely discredits the belt even more than it already has been. Coker is an idiot.
i will respect fedor for simply taking this fight. win or lose i will think more highly of fedor if this goes down....

Yeah I'm waiting on Overeems and SF's response before I get my hopes up
Who knows what M1’s demands are to make this fight a reality?
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson
The only way I see this being a problem
is if they demand it be in Russia. We all know how much the Reem likes to fight overseas. So could this be a Dream thing? Seems crazy, but SF has done stranger things.
"We fight, get beat, rise, and fight again."
Like I stated above they also wanted a extension to 4 or 5 fights with SF
And I don’t think what SF is giving Fedor is worth what he brings in as far as money goes?
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson
Funny...
Just the other day it was wait for Werdum, now all of a sudden it an about face. This is definately the fight that needs to happen, however, I smell bullshit somewhere. But, fuck it, bring it on however it happens. On the thread about SF and what they needed to do to pull theirselves out of the sewer, I thought making the Diaz/Noons, Fedor/Overreem fights were imperative. Maybe they are pulling their heads out of their asses and listening to the fans.
Yeah you have to ask yourself why is M1 and Fedor taking this to the media
Shouldn’t this be set up with Overeem first? Sounds like they are using the media to negotiate and that is why you smell BS. The question is will their tactics work going this root?
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson
IMO Fedor knows Overeem is looking towards
K1 and Werdum. This is M1’s way of saying well Hey Fedor wanted to fight Overeem. Obviously Overeem didnt want to fight Fedor. BS

Yeah they couldn't come to terms at the beginning of the year but now they are willing to go to the media without talking to SF or Overeem?
How does that happen? Well maybe your right ANS but hopefully Overeem comes out and states he wants to make it happen too?

I think this has more to do with fedor's fall from the top thann anything else
Before fighting overeem was to risky, but now he needs this fight to redeem himself in the eyes of the fans and his children.

I think Fedor may still have an eye on the UFC
Even if it’s just for leverage in a new SF contract, I think Fedor wants discussions to start again with the UFC. Some people said that M1 backed off the co-promotion demands but the UFC is giving them the finger now that Fedor lost.
I bet the UFC said, “beat Overeem and we’ll talk”. It’s brilliant because the UFC will just go after the winner.
where did you hear this?
either way, now that fedor lost, he seems willing to fight more dangerous guys. its a win win for fans.

fedor's record
granted i don’t know many of the people he has fought and won against. but if you do look at some of the notable names most are guys that didn’t cut it in the UFC anymore. tim sylvia, arloski, herring, crocop, lindland, coleman, randleman, sobral. then you have the freak fight against the giant hong man choi. of his 32 wins 8 have been by knockout, 16 by submission and 7 by decision. good record but he wasn’t destroying the big names by any means. i don’t know, it would be nice if he would face some real quality opponents in the ufc.
Dont' be surprised if this doesn't go well for you
You did yourself a favor by saying you don’t recognize the names of some of the people that he’s fought against which gives some perspective, but some here may not let this comment slide.

almost
you needed to put an asterisks that says “recently”. when he fought CC, Lindland, Coleman, Randleman, Nog, they were the cream of the crop. There was no-one he was ducking in his hey day. The last 3 years, you could make that argument. Also, Timmay and AA were ranked in the top 10 when he demolished them as well.
"We fight, get beat, rise, and fight again."
Everyone has an opinion Deuce
I don’t feel anyone on that list buy maybe Crocop or Nog was still in their prime or very good to begin with. But with Timmay and AA, and even Rogers…. it seems as soon as Fedor signs to fight someone or after he beats them they are suddenly a top 10 fighter. Personally I thinks it’s all the non-UFC affiliated media trying to build up other MMA. Before the Sylvia fight 90% of the Fedor fans were saying how pigeon toed Tim is and how bad he sucked as a fighter. Then when Fedor wins suddenly everyone wants to talk about what a great fighter Fedor just beat and how he is easily top 10.
Nothing Ever Changes When Nothing Ever Changes
for sure
it goes both ways. Rankings suck. But I am fairly confident that those guys were all ranked when he fought them. But cross-promotional rankings don’t mean much to begin with IMO. It is all guesswork until they get in the ring or the cage.
"We fight, get beat, rise, and fight again."
yeah i sure you know all the guys he's faced
tell me some of the japs he’s faced and what there names were. and those other guys you talk like it was in there prime, it wasn’t that many years ago. and they fought in pride where everytime you got into the ropes they stopped the fight. and they were allowed to stomp on the guys fucking head and knee them when they were down.

What you haven’t gathered from your little education is that Fedor’s prime and the existence of Pride is some of the most sacred time in the history of MMA. People who followed during that era don’t take lightly to newbies coming in dethroning legends and then following that with “he should fight in the UFC.”
And since your opinion of those people on this board is so low how about this:

Fedor fought alot of guys that werent deserving of the right to fight such an elite champion. But he fought guys like Arona and Sobral in an organization with rules so UNsimilar to that of MMA now. He was the first guy to ever hand Heath Herring a beat down. Heath at the time was a legit top tier fighter. Fedor beat Noguiera in his prime. The Nog that had a legendary guard, the guy with crisp boxing that peope would endure just because his guard was so dangerous. Fedor went out and demolished Nog multiple times from inside Nogs guard. Didnt have to pass it and when he wanted too he did. He derailed Nog. Fedor fought Mirko Cro Cop when he was an absolute wrecking machine. Mirko came from K1 and didnt have well known grappling credentials. Fedor with his grappling background could have just taken him down and unleashed an onslaught like he did vs Nog. Instead, he stood toe to toe with MMA’s most feared kick boxer. And won.
Sure he faced cans, no arguing that point. Yes he fought Zulu, HMC, and a MW bloated up Lindland. But people forget that was a last minute replacement when BoDog couldnt secure Randy Couture. Fedor fought Tim, that was because Affliction couldnt do any better. Arlovski didnt not cut it in the UFC. Arlovski was in high demand and opted for Free Agency.

"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson
I love Fedor..
But this seems like a very very very bad match-up for him.
I though Overeem was going to be the first man to beat Fedor and that was even before Fedor’s recent decline (arlovski/rogers). Overeem by KO. and all the Fedor haters will have more (then they already have) to permanently bury the legendary Fedor.. Will be a sad day
Just like AA was a bad match up for him.. rite?
AA was supposed to outclass Fedor on the feet, and he did, until he got “caught” which everyone and their mother seems to get by Fedor.
I predict this fight would look the same, Overeem tagging Fedor but Fedor surviving and landing that loopy punch of doom of his.

+1...Haha! Loopy punch of doom. If it weren't for the whole being a racist thing I might nominate that shit.
"It's not what you know, it's what you can prove."
Who stated AA was a bad match up?
The man fought CC who many believe was the best striker of all time how would AA be a bad match up? I think that is made up because I didn’t hear to many predicting AA to win here anyway?
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson
I thought AA was going to be a bad match up too.
Such a crisp technical striker vs Fedor. And AA did get in on some exchanges and took some from Fedor too. Clinching was even. Before the KO I had the round dead even. And the front kick had Fedor back peddling, in retrospect I am sure AA could have chose not to throw the knee and instead pick his shots, clinch, seperate and land some more shots.
by AintNoSunshine on Aug 25, 2010 4:19 PM EDT up reply actions
But thats AA for you he could of easily lost to Big Counrty the fight before too
But the ref saved him by standing the fight up when Roy was working and had AA in a bad postion.
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson
So you think AA was a better match up than CC?
Was it his style or did you think he was better than CC at the time?
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson
Its All Timing
I think when Mirko vs Fedor happened… they were both young and machines. When the AA fight happened Fedor had aged and Arlovski was in his prime age wise.
by AintNoSunshine on Aug 25, 2010 4:44 PM EDT up reply actions
AA was training more for boxing than MMA it took being knocked out twice standing in MMA for him to focus on MMA again but his confidence is shot right now.
Don’t get me wrong AA has the tools but I dodn’t think he ever had the toughness or head?
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson
AA is also a bad match up because of his sambo credentials.
sambo is a big advantage for Fedor and coming in it looked like AA would be able to nulify that advantage, which he did as the clinching was equal in the fight.
Loyality before Reality
I don't know about that brendog? Fedor was letting AA be aggressive much like he did against Rogers.
He was well defended except for once on the ground against Rogers and once Rogers started breating heavy bam! Against AA he threw the punch that connected 4 or five times before he must of seen an opening in preperation becasue he was going for that shot from the beginning. As far as the clinching being equal you can’t judge a fight that had only a brief clinch or two?
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson
Very well put
Fedor was hit by one jab and 2-3 ground shots by Rogers that didn’t faze him. That’s it. I don’t understand why some people think he lost the first round.
I saw the same thing against Arlovski. You could tell that this was Fedor’s plan from the beginning, as that bomb of a punch missed AA’s head to one side or the other about 4 times before finally connecting.
Who ever said AA was going to outclass Fedor on their feet? Everyone said it was going to be a mismatch considering AA couldn't beat Timmy.
Then AA went out there and did outclass Fedor on the feet-right up to the stupid flying knee attempt. I don’t remember anyone thinking AA was going to have a chance against Fedor before the fight, actually if memory serves me, it was quite the contrary.
Noons does not have power in his hands. Maybe his knees but his hands do not have KO power. they’re good enough to cut up and swell up gurgel’s face, but he won’t be ko’ing gurgel tonight.-STAK
Same as my memory jay. Barnett was the fight fans wanted to see.
Hell more wanted to see Couture than AA but when the AA fight was signed some fans tried to justify it?
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson
The Fedor fans. They tried to do it with all of his recent opponents, just in case he were to lose.
Noons does not have power in his hands. Maybe his knees but his hands do not have KO power. they’re good enough to cut up and swell up gurgel’s face, but he won’t be ko’ing gurgel tonight.-STAK

is how everyone was pretty much in agreement that Reem was not a can.

I think waiting to fight Overeem really helped
We wouldn’t have seen Overeem manhandle Rogers if they fought earlier. Now we look at that as well as his K1 stuff together and realize how good Overeem is.
Overeem winning would be kind of cool as well. I think the UFC would finally snatch him.

I like bacon...and Rashad Evans is a pussy
It's either this, or wait until he turns another year older and fights Werdum again, whom he should have beat to begin with.
I’m down with this fight if it’s for real. Makes perfect sense to me, who cares about titles. The SF heavyweight title is about as meaningful as the WAMMA belt.
Why do you say he should have beat Werdum
It is not like the fight was close at all. Werdum owned Fedor. There is nothing from that fight that says Fedor should of won it. It got outsmarted to the ground and then outclassed into a submission. I know the Fedor nuthuggers hate to remember that but watch it again if you think Fedor should of won. He showed his age, lack of recent training intensity and lack of competition since pride. I think Fedor is the best ever but there is no way he is the best right now. He does not deserve a title shot after his last showing.
but fedor knows
overeem is gonna fight twice in k1 hopefully to win the title there around the same time..i love fedor but this sound dodgy
exactly.
this is just a make believe request. in truth there’s nothing they want less than Overeem.
also, it could be a ploy to force SFs hand on the contract renewal, demanding the title to be on the line. this, because they lost bargaining power with his loss.
Exactly to your exactly
M-1 would not take the chance at a second loss in a row by fighting Overeem. If Fedor would drop two in a row his value would drop in a huge way. One loss can be, “well he just got caught” or “he needed that loss to motivate himself” or “it will only make him better and more dangerous”. Two in a row and it is “yep, he really was overrated and cannot beat top level competitiion” and “He really was all hype and fought nothing but cans and has beens for most of his career”.
M-1 only started talking about wanting the fight when they knew Overeem was going to go to K-1 because Werdum is out till next year.
I know it is his management’s fault but this makes Fedor look really weak.
Yup
pretty sad, but I really want this fight to happen.

Out of curiosity. What would be a few examples of a mega fight for you?
"We fight, get beat, rise, and fight again."
GSP vs Anderson Silva would be tops, in my opinion. I’d say a Chuck/Tito fight would still qualify. Penn/GSP would probably make the cut as well. Of course Fedor/Lesnar, that shit would be a $100 ppv. And Cyborg vs any dude. They may not be the fights everybody wants to see the most, especially the hardcores with the threepeats, but I think as far as ratings, ticket sales, and ppv buys they’d all qualify.
Cyborg vs. Urijah
That would sell some PPVs. GSP Anderson is the one great true UFC superfight IMO.
"We fight, get beat, rise, and fight again."
that fight would probably break any ufc ppv sales record

That's a cool pic of Fedor
Are those Great Danes? They kinda look like Bull Mastiffs too a little, at least the tan one does.
wow
you mean cristy cyborg against any dud.e.:)
I thought Cyborg WAS a dude
As I’ve mentioned in the past I thought once when I saw “her” throw a low kick that a testicle popped out.

Seriously.

Let me put it this way
Though admittedly I am getting a bit long in the tooth I’m 6’ 210 lbs and the majority of that ain’t fat plus I have tussled for more years than I’d like to admit. All that said I STILL wouldn’t mess with the one who is supposed to be the babe.

To all my fellow denizens of these electronic confines...
…Please understand me when I say I have the utmost respect for ALL MMA fighters. This venue is not one where pillows are strapped to hands and referees break things up when the combatants “hug.” In MMA the least of all fighters get a head nod from me because they truly risk life and limb in what is as closely akin to gladiators in the ancient Roman Coliseum as we will ever see. When I tease about Cristy (?) Cyborg being manish it’s my way of grudgingly paying respect to a woman that I’m pretty friggin’ sure could beat my ass unless I showed up to our fist fight with a gun. I say shit sometimes for the laugh but never mistake that for the fact that even if I don’t personally care for a fighter that’s not to say that I give him or her anything less than my total respect…yes, even Nick Diaz who as a person I think is an asshole.

I think all of us generally feel this way
I know that anytime I bash a fighter, I do so knowing full well that if they are fighting in a major mma organization, they are the cream of the crop. They could all kick my ass. That doesn’t mean I can’t dip my toes in the hatorade.

and he immediately gets spoken of as best in the world again.

Bears are nasty pieces of work when they're injured...
…and though it’s just an injury to the myth that has been Fedor I’m betting he rolls over Overeem like vodka down a russian drunk’s throat.

The idea of Fedor showing up with something to prove terrifies me. They’re gonna be scraping Overeem off the ceiling for months.
Anderson Silva will fall via brutal Republican dry-humping.
Seriously
I cannot wait to see how he responds to the loss.
"We fight, get beat, rise, and fight again."
I would venture to guess...
…that it’ll be less than in a kind and cordial manner. I’m betting that he’ll hit Overeem so hard Overeem’s colon will fall out on the floor.

Shogun will have the longest championship reign in the UFC
Easy...
Overeem takes his f*cking head off. I really thing Fedor has gotten a tad lazy and not as sharp as of late.
Undisputed Sig Bet Champion on the TitoOrtiz/Fight Pros forums!!
BJ Penn, best P4P fighter on the planet. I'll still stand by that all day long, bitches.
Always have respected Shogun Rua.
8-7-10 Anderson Silva was destroyed and exposed.

Ariel Helwani: Have you decided when and where your next fight will be?
Alistair Overeem: Yes, I’m going to fight in the K-1 tournament, so my first fight will be October for the Final 16 in Korea. If I win the fight, I will advance to the Final 8 in Japan. That fight will be in December.
This is not mine, just very well done, props to original creator, he didn't sign it.
