Chael Sonnen is going to get an immediate rematch following his 5th-round submission loss at UFC 117 to Anderson Silva. That’s what Dana White said on SportsCenter today, according to MMAJunkie. First and foremost, an immediate rematch should only be given when the first fight ended in a controversial decision. Think Frankie Edgar vs. BJ Penn, or Mauricio Rua vs. Lyoto Machida. I don’t give a flying fuck how close Chael was to winning that fight, he got caught in a submission, and tapped out. Anderson closed the book on Chael Sonnen by putting him away on the ground, where Chael was expected to dominate – which he did, almost.
Don’t get me wrong, UFC 117′s main event was an excellent fight, one of the highlight of 2010 for me, but I feel bad for poor Yushin Okami – one of the few guys who holds a victory over the current UFC middleweight kingpin. Yes, I know it’s via disqualification, but nonetheless there is unfinished business between Okami and Silva that needs to settled goddammit! This is what, the third time Okami’s been passed over for a chance at proving he is the man to beat Anderson? I understand the UFC wants to put on a rematch with Sonnen because he’s one of the few guys who’s actually got in Anderson’s face and given him a fight, but come on, how fucking long is "Thunder" going to go in the organization before the UFC heads decide its time he gets the same opportunity that Thales-fucking-Leites got!?
For a guy who’s 9-2 in the UFC and 25-5 as a professional, Okami gets absolutely no love from his employer – or the fans. It’s sickening to me that he’s yet again getting passed over for Mr. Republican Chael Sonnen – who is going to get smoked quickly and violently in the rematch with Anderson. Bet on that!
Am I alone on this? What say you Maniac's, who deserves the next UFC middleweight title shot?
