Frank Mir: 'I don't think 'Cro Cop' has lost a step'
Props: MMA Hour
Quoteworthy:
"I don't know if he's ever really lost his step. I just think the fighters now in the UFC are just a little bit more aggressive than the fighters in PRIDE. Studying tape on him, I noticed that guys that back away from him and give him that respect, it seems like they get unleashed on a little harder than the guys that come forward... I think Cro Cop has a good sprawl, he has a good double underhooks. I think if I were to try to just drop and shoot on him, he would stop my shot. I think standing up with him is actually the route to go at first and then eventually when you work in the clinch, going to the ground is obviously a lot easier to do with him than Nogueira."
The new look UFC 119 main event, set for September 25 in Indianapolis, Indiana, features a heavyweight match up between Frank Mir and Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic. The former UFC champ today told Ariel Helwani that he actually believes "Cro Cop" hasn't regressed over the years, just that his opponents have progressed. Mir also stated that taking Filipovic to the ground, if he chooses to do so, will be far easier than it would have been taking down his original UFC 119 counterpart, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. How about some early takes on this intriguing heavyweight tilt?

Wow, no disrepectful comment about Crocop from Mir. hmmmm…..
Shogun will have the longest championship reign in the UFC
well, look at it this way...he wants ppl to believe CroCop hasn't lost a step, so he'll look real good if he wins
and if he loses, he can say “told you he hasnt lost a step”. Truth is, this aint the old Crocop, even CroCop admits it.
Using no way as way, having no limitation as limitation.
Bull..
Cro Cop is outdated, even the “old” Cro Cop would lose in the UFC because he would lose confidence once he gets pushed just like how he did when he first came, maybe he would have been more agrresive at first but like I said, Once he got shaken he would be what we see now..

That’s a convenient conclusion for a kid who isn’t old enought to have actually watched a prime Cro Cop fight to arrive at.

SHHHHHHHHHH
don’t tell him about those new fancy things called DVD’s
lmao
just because he wasn’t old enough to watch cro cop in his prime means he can’t have an opinion, even though he has probably watched the pride DVD’s.
Arm.bar.bandit saw me slow dancing with Anderson Silva. I had my hands on his ass.
The truth. The truth is up my ass today and you can’t handle it.

HA! I see what you did there!

It’s convenient for Fwank’s ego to view all his opponents as being at their very best when Fwank fights them.
The bottom line is that a 2006 Cro-Cop would quite literally murder any version of Fwank Mir that has ever or will ever live. The same way that a 2006 Nog would have taught him that he really isn’t half the grappler that he thinks he is.

It will take me a lot further than the Dairy Queen you’ll be working at until you’re 37. In fact it already has…

We can't go back to 2006 anybody can say this guy would or could of.....but in the end it's simply just opinion
A fighter that lost Randleman and Hunt could lose to Mir as well in my opinion but who cares of the what if and this and that that was 2006, Fedor was king and CC was an exciting fighter maybe one of the best ever to watch at the time. But it’s 2010 now the past is gone.

No kidding..
I could say a 90 year old Mirko loses to a 32 year old Mir and that would’nt mean shit, I don’t get his point because the Mirko who steps in the Octigon on fight night is the only one who matters..

I also feel CC looked more comfortable in the ring than in the cage
The octagon must effect his movement and anfles that he attacked from compared to the cage.

Not as often, Candyce. The reasons are evident and are littered throughout this very thread. But it’s nice to see you’re still around as well.

I agree 100%. He is already making excuses for when he loses. Can you remeber Mir fighting anyone with kicks like Cro Cop? Hardonk but he couldnt stop the TD. Mir might know one of those left head kick KO are about due an is a lil scared.
Nah..
I recall Cro Cop is the one claiming hes not 100%, Pat Berry was saying Cro Cop never lost a step and I don’t recall you guys shit talking him. Mir gets shit talked for being nice and gets shit talked for being honest(rude or not), Haters will attack him with their keyboard but will still be losers at the end of the day..

I should have said if he loses. im not tryin to hate. i also think Cro Cop might come out an be afraid to throw kicks out of fear of being taken down. i just wanna see Cro Cop KO someone again also. its been to long!
Me too, I would love a HK KO..
But Mir’s one of my fav fighters and i’m having a sig bet with Gay i mean Jay, So i’m rooting for Mir, Hopefully Cro Cop will come back after this and get the Ko and then retire..

I think Mir......AND THE KNOCK-OFF SHOE AND ACCESSORY SALESMAN HAS ARRIVED!!!!!!!
Thats just what I need, a coach bag and Ed Hardy bikini……..Like I was saying, Mir can’t afford another loss, expect this one to go to the ground fellas.

nice job by Frank hyping the basically dead punching bag CroCop up
Maybe some less knowledgeable people will actually believe that it’s not a gimme fight and that CroCop is actually still a fighter and not just Mr. Paycheck.
Bullets dodge Fedor.
Mir vs. CroCop = Couture vs. Toney
If the fight stays standing, CroCop has a shot. Problem is he needs to kick Mir in the head, and as we all know, when you kick, it’s easier to be taken down. And if Mir has CroCop on the ground… his BJJ is a little better than Couture’s.
