UFC Quick Quote: Marcus Davis has no doubt he's a better boxer than Nate Diaz
"He's similar to me as far as what he uses in his arsenal. I think that what Diaz does for his boxing, being long, throwing out his lead left hand a lot, he has some good things that he does. But I have more tools. I have better footwork. He moves forwards and backwards. I move side to side. I'm good at closing the gap quickly and getting my shots off and getting back out. I think that I'm the more powerful puncher. I don't think there is any question about that. I hit guys with one shot and they go out. As far as boxing skill goes, I think I have the advantage there."
Surely one of the contenders for "Fight of the Night" honors at UFC 118 this coming weekend in Boston, Marcus Davis vs. Nate Diaz, is almost guaranteed to feature a stand up battle to behold. In speaking to Heavy.com, "The Irish Hand Grendade" detailed where he thinks he holds an advantage over Nate. Davis believes he is the clear cut better boxer considering his power and footwork. Don't know if there's much of an argument there as Diaz relies on his quantity of punches more than looking for that one shot knockout. If the fight does stay standing, who takes this fight? Time for some predictions, Maniacs.

Diaz by Sub.
He might have the boxing advantage but..i’ll be cliche’.
This is MMA.
Your cliche is correct. He needs to worry about Nate's reach and jits. I am not impressed by Nate as much as I am convinced that this is a bad match up for Davis.

I'd have to go with diaz via UD
Davis has decent boxing but nothing special
Diaz uses his reach really well and I believe that will be the deciding factor
Arm.bar.bandit saw me slow dancing with Anderson Silva. I had my hands on his ass.

Diaz by 50,000 patty cake punches leading to a omaplotta submission..
I've got something to say; it better to burn in hell than to fade away!!!
For a former pro boxer I think Davis stand up sucks. It might be me being biased coz I hate Davis but he always goes on about his great striking and I have yet to see it

Just goes to show how popular the ‘Irish Hand Grenade’ is in Ireland…lol
I like fighting.
He is a plastic paddy. Like Tito pretending to be Latino. I call bullshit!

generally speaking
most Irish folk think American’s are pretty retarded when they try claim “Irish”. Is it me, or is the UFC’s biggest mistake repeatedly miscalculating who the fans in that part of the world want to cheer for?
"We fight, get beat, rise, and fight again."
I never understood the "heritage" stuff.............
My ancestors are pretty much 100% German, but you would never see me toting a German flag to the octagon. I am 100% pure bred American! Heeeeeee Haw!!
Blame Canada, Blame Canada, With all their hockey hullabaloo, And that bitch Anne Murray too, Blame Canada,Shame on Canada...............

Blame Canada, Blame Canada, With all their hockey hullabaloo, And that bitch Anne Murray too, Blame Canada,Shame on Canada...............
There are only a couple of things that make me want to puke
the sex scene from this movie is one of them.
"We fight, get beat, rise, and fight again."
just speaking for myself
but it is an excuse to drink whiskey in my coffee.
"We fight, get beat, rise, and fight again."
Exactly Dragon
My great grandfather was scottish, but you wouldn’t see me walking to the octagon glugging whiskey, wearing a kilt, blowing bagpipes and being cornered by William Wallace and Sir Sean Connery.
Practically everyone in America can claim Oirish descent, why’s this clown think he’s so friggin’ special????
What about haggis? D'ye eat the haggis???

What a bad sterotype dragon - we dont just eat "Fish and Chips"
Some days we have sausage and chips, kebab and chips, chicken and chips ;-)

I have seen some strange, strange dishes over there man
just a bunch of oddly colored crud piled up on a plate together. It is not hard to make tacos people.
"We fight, get beat, rise, and fight again."
Ever had mush peas??
I ordered some fish and chips, the guy says “Curry or peas” I had the curry previously and did not care for it, so I say “Peas”. He piles a heaping pile of what appeared to be regurgetated peas right on top of my fries and fish, then wrapped it up in a news paper to make sure that every inch was covered in peas. I was so pissed, next time though I replied “neither” lol
Blame Canada, Blame Canada, With all their hockey hullabaloo, And that bitch Anne Murray too, Blame Canada,Shame on Canada...............
It's mushie peas dragon

If you can speak another language and your parents are directly from another country - I can understand your pride. You always want to show respect to your immediate family and take pride in that.

I agree.

On second thought I disagree...........
If you immagrate to a foreign land and you attain citenzenship, then whereever it is that is what you are. Where ever you are born, that is what you are. To show respect to a land that you are not even technically a citenzen of is disrespectful to the land that you are a citenzen of, imho…………..
Blame Canada, Blame Canada, With all their hockey hullabaloo, And that bitch Anne Murray too, Blame Canada,Shame on Canada...............
I have never referred to myself as Irish-American.
I am Merican. Dammit. But, if someone is giving me shit about drinking too much, or too early- I do tend to pull that Irish card out. That may be offensive to the Irish though. Stupid Americans.

Showing respect to your heritage does not equal disrespect to where you live now. I am proud to be American but I am not ashamed to say that I am proud of my Caribbean heritage.

If people ask where my ancestors are from..........
I do not hesitate to say “German on my moms’ side, and Norwegian (sp?) on my dads” But you will never hear me say I am German-American or Norwegian-American. I am American and damn proud of it.
Blame Canada, Blame Canada, With all their hockey hullabaloo, And that bitch Anne Murray too, Blame Canada,Shame on Canada...............
Good for you. But I am not talking about ancestors. I am talking about my mom and dad. I don't cave in to politically correct stuff - I am proud of both being an American and having a Latino background.

Correct deuce
I’m Irish and it doesn’t bother me that much but I do think it’s retarded to cling to a heritage like that, especially since many people who claim it couldn’t find Ireland on a map or haven’t been remotely near it.
by irishlilpete on Aug 23, 2010 1:15 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
Retarded?
I am 4th generation Irish American and proud of my descent. My forefathers came to America to start a better life, and they accomplished that. I grew up with Irish folk songs, prayers and food as a normal part of my life. I have been to Ireland twice and have spent a little over a month in the land of my fathers. Honestly, if I could ensure a better life for my family, I would move there tomorrow.
My family’s urban upbringing congregated around a neighborhood near Philadelphia that was primarily Irish immigrants. Because of where they lived, their friends tended to be Irish, the business owners in the neighborhood tended to be Irish and the church was most certainly an Irish Catholic church. They also felt the brunt of discrimination that was centered at the Irish immigrants of the time. Because most were fleeing the Famine (my family included) that occured in Ireland, these immigrants had little to no money and had to scrape together even a simple life in the US. The community was instrumental in making sure these immigrants had even a fighting chance (my family again included). It wasn’t a bunch of (random names, don’t get pissed) Poles or Italians or Hungarians that helped my family, it was Irish-Americans. The common bond of coming from the same place, not unlike thinking of your hometown now, was enough to give these struggling immigrants a fair start in this country. I was brought up to never forget that and to never forget where I come from. I won’t.

Good post.
"We fight, get beat, rise, and fight again."
I've got Davis with the upset.
Even though he’ll give up reach, he’s a more technical boxer and I think he’ll have an advantage on the feet. Diaz has piss-poor takedowns so I don’t see him being able to take the fight to the ground where he has a significant advantage. Davis also has a solid chin and I don’t see him getting rocked by Diaz’s accumulation punches. Davis by UD.

Diaz looked atrocious against the atrocious standup of Gray Maynard.
