Strikeforce results, updates and LIVE fight coverage for 'Houston' on Aug. 21

Strikeforce is ready to blow the roof off the Toyota Center as it invades "Houston" for its latest Showtime offering tonight (Aug. 21, 2010) at 10 p.m. ET.


Strikeforce: "Houston" will feature a light heavyweight title fight between current 205-pound champion Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal and hard-hitting Brazilian contender Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante in the main event of the evening.

Also battling for gold will be Tim Kennedy and Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza in a bid to claim the promotion's vacant middleweight title.

205 lbs.: Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal vs. Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante

Round one: Feijao comes forward quickly with punches. Mo sidesteps to avoid them. Now Lawal flurries with punches and initiates a clinch. He has a double, but Feijao does well to avoid the takedown. Still in the clinch. Lawal picks him up and slams him hard into the mat! Very nice. Feijao does well to get back to his feet, but Mo is latched onto him. Knees from Mo. Now they separate. Jabs from Mo. Nice kick to the body from Feijao. Nice two punch combo from Mo. He looks comfortable on his feet here. Very low stance from Mo. Feijao fires a jab. Right hand misses from Feijao. Now a jab lands. Now Feijao is starting to look more comfortable here. Mo leans in with punches and backs Feijao into the fence. Thai clinch from Feijao and Mo is looking for the takedown. Feijao pushes away and they separate. Jab to the body from Lawal. Nice right from Feijao and he follows up up with two nice knees. Right hand misses from Feijao. Nice left lands from Lawal. Big right misses from Feijao. Both fighters miss with left hands and Mo poses afterward for a moment. Jab to the body from Mo. Huge leg kick from Feijao. The bell sounds shortly after that. Close round. I'd give it to Mo 10-9.

Round two: Mo takes the center. Hard leg kick from Feijao. Jab from Mo. More leans in with another combination before backing away. Jab from Feijao. Another hard kick to the leg from Feijao. Mo walking him down here with jabs to the head and body. Big exchange and Feijao just misses with a wild punch. Kick from Feijao gets caught and Mo scoops him onto his back. Ground and pound from Mo and Feijao powers back to his feet. Wow. Impressive from Feijao to not let Mo hold him down twice now on takedowns. Mo charging forward with punches again and he scores big to the body. More body punches from the champion. Feijao with a right hand. Mo goes upstairs now, but he misses with it. More jabs to the body, but Mo has his hands very low here. Feijao misses with a right. Big punches to the body from Mo. He walks Feijao into the fence again and Feijao tries a high kick. Mo explodes with a combination of punches again and then he backs away. Jab from Feijao. Mo to the body again. Clinch from Mo after more punches to the midsection. He has a single, but Feijao is defending it well. Knees from Lawal. He still has the leg. The bell sounds. Another one for the champ there.

Round three: Huge right hand from Feijao stuns the champion right out of the gate. He's trying to recover and Feijao tees off again with a punch and two big knees from the clinch. Uppercuts from Lawal. Mo gets sent backwards with another big knee and Feijao is all over him with a huge right hand that sends the champ to the floor. Feijao pounces and he's teeing off with punches and hammer fists. Lawal gets back to his feet and tries for a double leg takedown. Big elbows and punches from Feijao. Mo is just hanging on to the leg and he's getting lit up. That's it. Big John steps in and Rafael Feijao is the new Strikeforce light heavyweight champion. Wow!

185 lbs.: Tim Kennedy vs. Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza

Round one: Here we go for the vacant Strikeforce middleweight title. Lots of feeling out here, and now Souza finally opens up with a jab. Kennedy fires back and misses. Jacare has the center here. Right hand and a push kick from Jacare. Kennedy slow to start here. Jacare with a jab to the body. Now a flurry of punches from Jacare. Into the clinch and Jacare unloads several more overhand punches to Kennedy's head. Kennedy pushes out. High kick gets blocked by Jacare. Nice leg kick and counter punch from Jacare. Kennedy with a wild right hand that misses. Jacare walks him into the fence and fires a nice combination of punches and kicks. Kennedy tries to fire back, but Jacare backs away. Kennedy misses with a big looping left hand. Leg kick from Kennedy. Nice exchange and Jacare scored there with some hooks to the body and head. Kennedy misses with a wild uppercut from outside. Leg kick from Jacare. Another hard leg kick from Jacare. Jacare misses with an overhand right. Kennedy lunges forward and lands a nice left hand. Jacare slips trying to circle away and Kennedy jumps on him. Jacare works for separation and the round ends there. 10-9 Jacare.

Round two: Kennedy lunges forward. Nice counter punches from Jacare. High kick misses from Kennedy. Kennedy has the center here, and he's picking up the aggression. Uppercut misses from Kennedy. Punch to the body from Jacare. Nice combo scores for Kennedy. Kennedy lunges forward with punches again. He slips and turns it into a takedown attempt. Jacare shrugs it off. Kennedy has the center with Jacare circling. Big punches from Jacare. Another big exchange with Jacare scoring from the clinch with more overhand punches. Nice punch and leg kick from Kennedy. Another kick to the body. Jabs from both fighters. Jacare with a nice counter punch to the body. They get tied up momentarily, but Jacare pushes away for separation. Nice leg kick from Kennedy. Jacare fakes some punches and shoots for a double. Kennedy defends it nicely and they separate. Push kick from Kennedy. Nice two punch combo from Kennedy. Leg kick from Kennedy. Superman punch from Kennedy. Jacare misses with a wild right hand. Nice push kick from Jacare now. Kennedy lands a left hand at the bell. Better round for Kennedy there.

Round three: Kennedy walking Jacare down. He lands a leg kick before they tie up again. Jacare pushes out of the clinch and lands a leg kick. Kennedy leans in with a combination of punches and now they're back in the clinch. Jacare tosses him off and circles out. Kennedy doing a nice job moving forward here. Nice leg kick lands for him. Superman punch misses. Jacare can't connect on a counter right. Jacare flashing his jab. Kennedy to the body and Jacare makes him pay with a three punch combo. Leg kick from Kennedy who is bleeding badly from above his left eye now. Leg kick from Jacare. Jacare moving forward now with a push kick and punches. Leg kick from Kennedy. Jacare swings wildy and Kennedy locks him up and takes him to the mat for the first time tonight. Jacare has full guard. He works back to his feet and Kennedy is a bloody mess on the left side of his face. Jab from Jacare. Kennedy stalking Jacare and he lands a left hand. Jacare circling and he takes a kick to the body. Small exchange right before the bell. Good round for Kennedy again.

Round four: Kennedy fires a leg kick. Now a body kick. Jab from Jacare, but he eats a big counter right. Nice punch and kick combo from Kennedy. Jacare flashing his jab again, but he's not landing with it. Kick to the body from Kennedy again. Kennedy blocks a left hook. Jacare with two hard right hands. Jabs now from the Brazilian. Kennedy continues to move forward here. He misses with a looping right hand. Jacare shoots. Kennedy sprawls nicely to avoid it. Jab from Jacare. Hard leg kick from Kennedy. He tries a superman punch again, but misses with it. Punch to the body from Jacare. Nice two punch combo from Jacare. Hard counter right from Jacare after taking a kick to the groin. There's a timeout for him to recover. He's okay now and we're back underway after a momentary issue with the clock. Kennedy fakes a shot and now he shoots. Jacare avoids it easily and tosses him off. Jabs from Jacare. Kennedy misses with a left. Push kick from Jacare. Leg kick from Kennedy. Kennedy fakes the superman punch and the misses with a left. Jacare with a solid counter punch there and the bell sounds shortly after. Another close round to Kennedy there for me.

Round five: Jabs from Jacare. Nice body kick from Kennedy. Now he lunges forward with punches. Jacare circles to avoid them. Jacare fires a punch and high kick that both miss. Nice leaping left hook from Kennedy. Nice jab and leg kick from Jacare. Jacare misses with a big overhand right. Kennedy with another hard leg kick. Kennedy lunges forward again and Jacare drills him with a counter punch. Another nice right hand from Jacare here. Kennedy shoots, but Jacare times a punch and avoids the takedown well. A brief tie up and Kennedy kicks and punches his way out. Kennedy leans in again with punches into the clinch. Jacare circles and pushes away. Nice left hook from Jacare. Kennedy with a kick to the body. Now a punch to the body. Jacare with a hard right hand and he misses with two hard follow up shots. Into the clinch and Jacare almost gets a takedown. Kennedy stays upright, though and Jacare backs away. Now Kennedy swings wildy and stumbles. Jacare is all over him and takes his back. Still on their feet and somehow Kennedy escapes. Big right hand lands from Jacare and Kennedy's head pops back. Kennedy shoots with seconds remaining. He picks Jacare up and slams him into the mat at the buzzer. I've got Tim Kennedy on my scorecard.

Final result: Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza defeats Tim Kennedy via unanimous decision (49-46, 48-47, 48-47)

155 lbs.: Karl "KJ" Noons vs. Jorge Gurgel

Round one: Noons with a leg kick. He backs Gurgel into the cage. Gurgel circling. Body kick from Gurgel. Big right hand lands from Gurgel. KJ stalking him down still. Leg kick from KJ. High kick from Gurgel just misses. Nice counter punching from Gurgel who eats another hard leg kick. Noons with a body punch. Gurgel misses with a counter combo. Noons again going to the body. Gurgel with a nice body kick, but he eats a hard counter left hand from Noons. Noons still has the center. Big two punch combo stuns Gurgel momentarily. Gurgel leans in and gets drilled. Might have been a head butt. Gurgel leans in with two jabs and follows it up with another nice looking high kick. Noons going to the body again. Nice leg kick from Gurgel. KJ fires right back with one of his own. They exchange low kicks again. Nice uppercut from KJ. Gurgel is bleeding near his right eye. Gurgel with a nice counter combo again, but Noons showed good head movement there. KJ peeks at the clock then unloads a leg kick. Gurgel shoots. KJ sprawls easily. Gurgel tries a high kick right away and hits nothing. Noons connects on a hard counter right hand. Gurgel felt that one. Push kick from Noons. High kick now from KJ. Gurgel flurries with punches at the bell. Good head movement from KJ, and now KJ unloads with a big left hook after the bell. Gurgel gets floored by it, but he pops up. It doesn't look like there's going to be a penalty or anything like that. 10-9 Noons.

Round two: Leg kick from Gurgel. Small exchange in the center. Now he leans in with a punch and he gets drilled with two bombs from Noons. He crumbles and KJ looks at the referee. Now he's all over him punches. The referee steps in and this fight is over. KJ threw a soccer kick to the body at the end for good measure. It was very close to being an illegal kick to the head. Big win for KJ Noons either way.

Final result: Karl "KJ" Noons defeats Jorge Gurgel via knockout (strikes) at 0:19 of round two

265 lbs.: Bobby "Dominator" Lashley vs. Chad "The Grave Digger" Griggs

Round one: Gloves touch and we're underway with the first fight of the night. Griggs takes the center and right away Lashley shoots for a double leg and scores with it. Quick pass to side control after some ground and pound. More punches from Lashley. This is a very bad spot for Griggs. Lashley trying to trap his arm, but Griggs defends it well. More punches from Lashley. Griggs tries to explode out, but Lashley is all over him. Boos from the crowd. Lashley looking to get mount, but he can't get there. Griggs scrambles back to his feet and fires with some punches. Lashley is all over him, though, and he works hard for another double leg takedown. Back into side control right away. Again Griggs scrambles back to his feet and looks to land punches. Lashley maintains the clinch, though, and he drives Griggs into the cage. Dirty boxing from Lashley. Referee calls for a separation and Lashley shoots right away. Griggs tries to defend and he gets off a couple of punches before Lashley finally gets him to the ground. Lashley is bleeding pretty bad here from the top position. He's in half guard. Griggs lands a few punches before the bell. 10-9 for Lashley. The cut is deep, but it's under his eye. He might be okay.

Round two: Griggs walking Lashley down and Lashley shoots and scores with a big slam. Into Griggs' half guard. Punches to the body and head from Lashley. Griggs trying to land shots from the bottom here, too. More body strikes from Lashley. He stands over Griggs and passes to side control nicely. Ground punches to the head from Lashley. Full mount for Lashley. Griggs trying to buck out, but Lashley keeps it. Griggs tries to use the cage to escape, but Lashley is still all over him with punches from mount. Lashley postures up and rains down some punches. Lashley looks to be setting up an armbar, but he doesn't go for it. The referee calls for a timeout to get a better look at the cut. A tired Lashley says he wants to fight, and the doctor allows it. Lashley shoots. Griggs sprawls and drills Lashley with punches. Lashley hanging on to Griggs' leg here and Griggs is teeing off with hammerfists. Lashley is in deep trouble. He's not defending these and he gets saved by the bell. No, that's it. Lashley can't continue and Chad Griggs has scored a big upset here.

Final result: Chad "The Grave Digger" Griggs defeats Bobby "Dominator" Lashley via technical knockout (strikes) at 5:00 of round two
