UFC Quick Quote: Jon 'Bones' Jones vs Stupid 'Slow' White Boy?

Mma_silva_griffin033_576_medium

"I hope I am not fighting Jon 'Bones' Jones. I might be. F*ck it; if I am, I am. I will do it, but I am not even training right now. That is a bad dude. That dude will whoop my ass. F*ck it. What is the worst, I mean, it could not be worse than Anderson Silva. It should not be worse than that, right? Every fight I go into, no matter what happens, it could not be worse than Anderson Silva. Because that sh*t was a year ago and literally every day people ask me something about that - 'What happened? What happened?' [Anderson punched me in the chin] Repeatedly and I was very confused. I tried to punch him and he literally moved his head out of the way and looked at me like I was stupid for doing it. He looked at me like - 'Why would you do such a stupid thing?' He looked at me like - 'Oh, did you really think you were going to hit me? What a stupid thing to think, you slow slow white boy.' Then he punched me. I felt embarrassed for even trying to punch him."

Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Forrest Griffin tells Jason Ellis (via Bloody Elbow) that facing Jon Jones is like fighting Anderson Silva in that he'll probably get his ass kicked inside of three minutes. Is "Bones" going to be paired up with Griffin in late 2010/early 2011? Or is the new best-selling author too busy selling books to see the inside of a cage in time to throw down with the future star?

He starts out saying how Jon Jones would whip his ass if he has to fight him...

…but nothing could be worse than what Anderson did to him. He goes on to say that he was confused, because when he tried to punch Silva, he literally moved his head out of the way and thought to himself `Why would you try that you slow white boy`.

Too funny

99% of the stuff that comes of of Forrest’s mouth is comedy gold. He’s going to make a ton of money after fighting whether it’s with the UFC or in TV/movies. I love the guy and wish he would start training with a different camp. He doesn’t seem to get a whole lot out of his current training partners. I understand that everyone has different attributes and abilities but there is something to be said for his lack of power and speed. Those can be built up and strengthened.
Oh the other 1% would be his mouthpiece.

Forrest fights best

when he DOESN’T take himself seriously. Since winning the belt, Forrest started to think of himself as a good fighter instead of a yard dog…and it killed his career. He ceased to be the “who-gives-a-shit-just-lemme-at-em” guy that was so exciting to watch. I’ve always loved Forrest for his humor and humility. But I think getting totally outclassed like that might be the best thing that ever happened to him, cause maybe he realizes again where he really stands skill-wise and that it’s his tenacity and heart that the fans want to see.

I just think that he started fighting better fighters.

“grit and toughness” I agree free, but a “bit of talent?” Not at all imo. He is below average at everything. I love that Silva fight! Anderson looked like the Matrix!

Anderson Silva is by far the number one P4P king!!! Even when he is losing a fight he still comes back and finishes for the win! GSP dominates the whole fight and still can't finish! LOL

by MBOW on Aug 19, 2010 6:27 PM EDT up reply actions

"below average"???

Gimme a break, dude. Forrest may not be a TOP 5, but he is certainly not “below average”. Nobody in the UFC is below average. Forrest is an exceptionally good fighter. The fact that there are 5-10 guys in the world who are clearly better doesn’t make him “below average.”

"Who's da MASTA?!!!"

by (shonuff) on Aug 20, 2010 8:02 AM EDT up reply actions

Below average at everything?

Forrest beat the #2 ranked LHW in the world (Rua) and he beat the #1 ranked LHW (both at the time) to win the strap?

Your idea of below average is hillarious and I can hear your excuses for Shogun and Page already entering the conversation.

I am a huge fan of the guy because he won a belt with inferior talent. That doesn’t happen by LUCK. It happens by working hard and having a good gameplan. Forrest had both for those fights. Better than liking a guy who has all the talent in the world and hides behind his “lack of language” and his fat-slob manager that only wants to fight guys he knows he can beat.

Murph, if anything I have MORE respect because Forrest lacks the natural ability fighters like Rua, Silva, or Jones have

He’s scrappy, and I will always root for the scrappy guy. Reason why I love Steve Nash, loved Teddy Bruschi, and even though he was a little before my time loved Lenny Dykstra.

by WallyBallz on Aug 20, 2010 9:51 AM EDT up reply actions

Funny story about Dykstra...

He used to chew so much tobacco during a game that sometimes the other team’s centerfielder’s would complain to the grounds crew.

You would see guys scramble out between innings to pick up the piles. They looked like dog poop.

I had the Page fight a draw, due to a 10-8 round (47-47)

But he still hung with the guy when all the pundits said Page would crush him. Gotta respect that.

Sure he isn’t top 5 (maybe not top 10), but he is good for the sport.

I for one see it as Forest haven given up on the thought of having a successful fighting career

That’s twice that he’s joked about not wanting to fight Bones and add that to the fact that he didn’t want to fight Lil Nog in the beginning either. He’s come face to face with the fact that his skills are subpar when it comes to the top 10 picture. His humor is usually very funny but it can get old when you realize its his way of telling everyone he’s not shit.

To me in this sport, it’s fighting, it’s mixed martial arts, and I feel there’s too many athletes and not enough fighters…I think these people going in taking these sports enhancement drugs, they’re not real fighters, they’re athletes. by Onemansyn on Aug 19, 2010 5:49 PM EDT reply actions

he's just returned to realism.

For a while there he got a little big for his britches and started thinking he really was a TOP 3. Now he realizes that there’s another plane of reality above him that those guys are on…and he’d rather stick to fighting big names on his own plane. He was doing well against Rashad till he got caught and proved he can hold his own with Rampage, and I think he’d gladly accept a rematch of either of those fights. He just never wants to get completely humiliated again like he did against Anderson…and Bones has a way of making good fighters like Forrest look like inanimate heavy bags.

I like Griffin but Jones needs to fight someone who can potentially beat him. Page/Shad(won’t happen I know)/Machida/lil Nog/Couture/Ace. He needs top 5. He’s on a good win streak (Hamill was a technical loss but still) so they havta stop building him with middle/lower tier fighters

Hamill was a step up imo and he tooled Hamill

Would he now? Let's not get too crazy here....Randy may be 40'ish but experience can make up for any standup power that Bones has.

If Bones tries to trade, Randy will make damn sure he won’t have the chance and take him down to the mat…..

Bones is good but he ain’t all that. Heck, Randy held his own against Brock….You think Bones can even last 1 round against Brock?

agreed. Randy held his own against brock for just a round an a half. And a relatively green brock at that. I believe brock now would take out randy in the first round. Just like i believe Bones wouldn’t let the fight go past 2 rounds. Speed and Range would end Randys night

Sanchez actually does have skill and talent, and always believes he beat anyone.

Unfortunately for him, he believed his striking was a lot better than it was and BJ just showed him how wrong he was. Getting to the fifth round was very impressive even though he lost, not many would have made it out of that first round. Hathaway was too big and strong for him, when tried taking him down, it reminded me of when he tried taking Fitch down, you could see there was no way it was going to happen, those guys are just to big and powerful for him. If he had the physical attributes that Forrest has in his division, Diego would give problems too anyone, but hes just small to be a serious threat to anyone at the top, no matter how much his skill improves.

I see this as Forrest's way of saying...

We’ve seen this show before.

Forrest will take the fight if they offer it to him, obviously, but he doesn’t want to fight Bones. And, that’s why he keeps saying he would lose and all this stuff. In the back of his mind, he’s probably hoping all this talk keeps White and Silva from even making the fight. Who want’s to put together a fight when one of the guys doesn’t want to be in the Octagon with the other guy and has already given in to the fact that he’s gonna lose?

Forrest is doing his best to make sure this fight doesn’t happen.

That said, I’m still a fan of Forrest.

He couldn’t win in that situation. If he won the fight it wouldn’t help him move up the ladder because he beat a middleweight. If he loses then he is screwed because he lost to a middleweight. That fight was lose/lose for Forest but it was win/win for Silva.

There is nothing quite as satisfying as out running security after you've punched out a Flyers fan!

I completely disagree. In fact what you just said is exactly the opposite from what I believe.

If Forrest beat Silva, he would lose half his hype. Most casual people don’t care/know what weight class fights happen in.

If Forrest won, it would have catapulted him back up the ranks and Silva would have lost most of his mystique because only hardcore fans care about weight classes.

Forrest had absolutely no chance in that fight.

and Dana damn well knew it. Silva had been booed out of the cage in his previous two showings and Dana was desperate to make him look good. So he gave him the biggest name he could that posed no threat to him. Forrest has essentially the same exact skill set as Silva, but at half the speed and with no KO power….and he will always come forward…perfect for a counter-striker like Silva. Forrest was hand-picked as the perfect stooge to let Silva put on an exhibition of his greatness…and Forrest knew he was being set up. He seemed bitter about it even before the fight.

I used 2 like griffin but this shit is getting old!

When he had the strap he was like " I don’t even deserve 2 be the champ this & that!" gtfo with that talk! & don’t even say he lost 2 rampage cuz even page after the fight said forest whooped his ass!

Couldn't agree with you more.....

This act is wearing very thin at this point. Go write another book, do a sitcom for the people that actually think your humour is somewhat funny. The people who love Forrest seem to be people with low self esteem and confidence who really feel a connection with him. Piss off and let someone who takes fighting a tad bit more serious without the “I’m just a junk yard dog who really isn’t good at anything” attitude with you.

Yeah, forest always pissed me off with his after fight routine

When he wins he acts like he doesn’t care, but he balls his eyes out and runs away when he loses. I don’t question his heart, but he is mentally week.

But you know what, if you watch the way hendo and Franklin fought anderson

They were pretty scared. We just saw what happens when a guy like sonnen takes it to Anderson. I wonder if AS still has that affect in his future fights?

by Conan the Barbarian on Aug 19, 2010 11:55 PM EDT reply actions

Franklin

Wasn’t scared his first fight he had no idea who the hell silva was lol. And after the beat down he got he had a reason to be scared!

Let’s all be honest though, forest isn’t that awesome of a fighter. He’s li guida fun to watch get beat up. Second is rather see Franklin fight jones because he won’t puss out and will go after him. ULTIMATELY id love to see Vitor Belfort fight Jones if Sonnen gets an immediate rematch. Give Jone’s chin an actual test, because vitor WILL get his hands on him I guarantee it

i think jones takes vitor down real quick and finishes him.

vitor stops being dangerous after the first 30 seconds of a fight.

by Conan the Barbarian on Aug 20, 2010 7:51 PM EDT up reply actions

vitor has a problem of blowing his wad kinda quick. 10% chance of ko but after 60 seconds

jones puts him in his place.

jones just isnt a good matchup for forrest...forrest is good at several things but he isnt great at ANYTHING...

forrest is a good striker…hes good on the ground…but hes not GREAT at striking…hes not GREAT on the ground…and he doesnt have GREAT power

i think bones would do to him what hes done his last several fights…instead of trading with forrest, he would take forrest down and pound on him till the fighter is either stopped or till he wins a dec…

i would rather see bader vs bones….but bader is tied up…

in order for anyone to have a chance against jones they’re gonna have to be able to stop his tds and trips and force him to stand….jones is flashy on his feet and does crazy shit but he isnt exactly ending fights with one punch…hes ending his fights by getting his opponents down and crushing their faces…

he wanted NOTHING to do with standing with vera…as good and flashy as jones has been on his feet the last thing he wanted to do was get into a kickboxing match with vera…so he got it down as quick as possible….so its gonna take someone with a great td defense and who isnt gonna be caught off guard by all the spinning kicks and elbows that jones does who will be good against jones…and bader is a good choice…too bad hes busy..

machida would be a good fight for bones…..hed have a hard time taking down machida…but after seeing how easy shad took down page id have to think jones would do the same thing and get a dec over page by using the same gameplan

the brockness monster grinds up teenagers and puts them in his protein shakes..and uses razor blades to chop toddlers up into lines to snort like meth...the reason no one can find bigfoot is because the brockness monster found him years ago and now has him in numerous ziplock bags in the back of his freezer...

i agree bones would wreck forrest but i believe forrest to be a little more competent on his back then vlad. Forrest actually has a pretty decent jiu jitsu game and i will go as far to say that jj may be his ‘strongest’ asset. I say ‘strongest’ because as we all know forrest aint great at anything really besides being a scrappy dog. I think jones would rather use his speed and demolish forrest on the feet then trip or take him down. Jone’s speed compared to forrest is like a lambo racing a k car

I hate that faux self-deprecating ‘slow, white boy’ nonsense. What is this? The 1970s?

If Forrest has some athletic inferiorirty complex, he should move aisde and let a real fighter take his shot. I don’t remember Chael whining about his insecurities when he was punching Anderson in the head.

You didn’t lose because you’re white, Forrest. You lost because you’re a pretty limited fighter.

hahahaahha like the first person said. im still laughing from reading that. Forrest isnt one of my faves but thats a quote and a half. Kinda sad he would admit that but thats Forrest for ya. Jones would destroy Griffin. I dont think anyone minus maybe Machida, Shogun , a motivated Silva or any top tier heavyweight would even have a chance against Jones.
