Poll: Has Shane Carwin escaped the Lesnar lynch mob?
Shane Carwin has been named in open court by a federal prosecutor as a purchaser of illegal steroids. As of now, there is little we can argue for (or against) the UFC heavyweight as he has yet to make an official statement.
In addition, the MMA media has been surprisingly low-key in regards to its handling of this recent news. Is Shane Carwin receiving special treatment?
Would oft-maligned heavyweights Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem receive the same unspoken pardon? Or would the MMA media have stormed their castles and hung them in the town square?

imo who cares who "used" to do them....lets concentrate on who is doing them now

easily more than 50% of the ufc's top fighters.
to catch them you would have to run serious tests every month and it doesn’t work that way, each fighter is tested maybe once every 5-6 months when they fight.

i just worry that someone who used and didnt get caught (until now) could still be using something that isnt testable...

So everyone is on a level playing field?
The only way it would happen is if Steroids became a prescribed drug that was overseen by doctors and pharmacists. You couldn’t possibly think to leave out two of the largest lobbying groups in the country (big pharma and the AMA). They need their money too.
If that happened, you would still have the “abusers” getting them from illegal docs that need the cash for their 3rd wife’s alimony and their 4th McMansion. Nothing would change except, now, they wouldn’t test for it. Or the test could still be fooled.
As long as there is money in cheating the system, there will be people willing to circumvent the law. Human Nature 101.

I disagree
you have to watch out for the safety of the participants. If I wanted to be a worlds strongest man it would be near impossible for me to a top p[articipant if I didn’t want to do steroids. You shouldn’t have to choose between doing your job/sport and wrecking your body and health. Yes there are injuries and stuff but those are accidental not self inflicted to play.

Jesse... Alistar is one of my favorite fighters but he looks like Ronnie Coleman!!!!
Carwin lost so nobody cares about him and Brock is a house hold name…both guys are 5x more popular than Carwin, its all about how much people care…and because nobody seems to care is not a good sign for Carwin’s career…
M1 stated they believe he was taking roids and they requested a test before the signed the contract to fight last year.
Alistair refused and this is why the fight was never set up. Brock is the biggest name in america were the media would be all over it. Hell when Brock stated the Canadaina Helath Care was like a third world the media and fans went crazy! Overeem would be the least surprising.

Good point, Syn. Also, Brock's socks have more charisma and personality than Carwin so it would be a much bigger deal with Brock. Not to mention the tiny fact that he is the UFC HW Champion.

I personally don't give a rats ass
but, it all depends on when Lesnar was busted. Allistair wouldn’t create as much of a stir over here since most casuals are not too familiar with him. Brock, it would certainly get some attention, more so if this was something recent. But, in the end, MLB has turned this into an expected outcome for professional athletes.

Morons can’t get their facts straight, so maybe that’s why noone else is picking it up. Whole thing might be bullshit for all I know.
However, I am all about the guilty-until-proven-innocent approach with MMA and steroids. Olympic testing for everyone should be a prerequisite to sanctioning anything as long as they are illegal. Or just legalize all steroids and give everyone an equal opportunity.

I clicked the first option
it’s to the point now that I feel they should just use them (I know I know). I mean HGH isn’t getting tested for anyways so anyone who fails a test is a moron. Ive heard guys say that they feel 80-90% of athletes are or have used PEd’s, so it’s pretty widespread to say the least!
For me it's all about when..
When did he ALLEDGEDLY purchase the HGH or roids, or did someone else purchase and provide them to him.He may have even taken them without knowing what exactly it was that he was taking. Trainers provide supplements to their atheletes all the time, and the athelete is not always aware of what their taking. Bottom line is, if all this took place a long time ago, or even prior to his MMA career then who cares. Everyone makes mistakes.
I agree but...
If he didn’t purchase them, wouldn’t he be screaming from the rooftops? That’s usually what innocent people do

Agreed, the silence makes also seems incriminating to me, but at the same time, if it's a legal issue, and your attorney's tell you not to say anything, you don't say anything.
Of course that seems like a very convenient excuse as well.
"It's not what you know, it's what you can prove."
I know for a fact that silence is used as a buffer to plan legal strategies or admit guilt without officially declaring it.

"Friends and lovers lie endlessly, caught in the web of duty. Only enemies speak the truth.

My point is everyone makes mistakes.
So, why the big to do about nothing.
Mistakes are not intentional. Mistake is a misnomer in this case and only serves the purpose of EXCUSE.
"Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is to not stop questioning." - Albert Einstein
Did you not read the article?
The cops presumed him guilty before the facts came out. They made the mistake, and I believe the same thing is happening to Carwin. He’s having to prove his innocence rather than being presumed innocent and making the media/cops prove his guilt.
I read the article two or three years ago, I missed your point.
I thought you meant the “mistake” of taking steroids. Those mistakes only happen when you have been relegated to making a public service announcement. ;)
Sorry for the confusion.
"Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is to not stop questioning." - Albert Einstein
As a rebuttal...
The police, in Brock’s situation, had the drugs in hand and f’ed it up.
The attorney general got Carwin’s name from a known dealer’s records that he was a purchaser. His name is already in state’e evidence as a purchaser.
One is circumstantial evidence, one is real evidence. Circumstantial evidence is inadmissable in court, as we all know (thank you Night Court!)

Hang 'em!
Hit with a trafficking in controlled substances charge, Lesnar was exonerated when tests showed that the seized pills were not, in fact, steroids. While a Louisville detective told TSG that the material was some kind of growth hormone, Lesnar’s defense attorney, Scott Cox, characterized the confiscated pills as a ‘vitamin type of thing.’ According to Cox, officers seemed ‘very apologetic’ when lab results cleared Lesnar. It is unclear how investigators concluded that the parcel sent to Lesnar may have contained illicit substances.

It wasn't illegal what Brock had
If it was HGH so what they were legal at the time and Brock was in the WWE anyway, as well we all know Brock is a supplement junkie and try’s the newest stuff I’m sure there are many athletes like him that have the latest and greatest and in some cases like HGH get banned then they have to change and move on.
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson
And to go with my above statment on the latest and greatest
I believe that many PED’s that were legal during a period of time then banned are reasons many get bustes as they never stopped taking them becasue of they couldn’t find anything close that gave them the same results. There are so many PED’s that are banned it’s mind boggling.
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson
there's no real proof against Carwin
just some nob head dealer naming names so he gets to see the light of day while he’s still young but all he’s achieved is the chance to get stabbed inside for being a grass
you want proof
Carwin’s silence is all the proof I need. Remember we’re talking about a purchase here and not consumption. And the court records reflect physical orders with Carwin’s name, not just some slimeballl throwing people under the bus.

The question is when, how often and exactly what.
Carwin probally has lawyers telling him what to exactly do right now.

Exactly
It’s not like he was buying them for X-Pac or some other little guys!
Look at the size of Carwin during that era. He was more of an animal than he is now.
He’s guilty and we all know it, the real question is ‘How much do we care?’
Personally, I think the majority juice in some way so its hard to take a stance. I’d like to know how many were 100% natural all year long before I could give a real opinion one way or another…

I don't know man
When I was growing upI always got accused of taking roids becasue for my size I was ripped and big I also was goi through a growth spurt that gave me stretch marks. But the honest truth is I never took any banned substance of any kind if I did I would of been caught either during wreslting tournament or football were I was tested in both more than once and I have zero idea how to beat the sytem. So to accuse guys jsut becasue they are big sounds ignorant to me but at the same time I’m not on the stage these guys are or can make the money doing what they do.
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson
but did a known steroid dealer get busted with evidence linking you as one of his clients?

I'm not saying Carwin I'm saying just becaseu someone is big a ripped doesn't prove anything.

I dont disagree with that
my point tho is that he was fucking immense physically 4 years ago and hes still a beast now BUT not like he was…. Seriously.
I’m not referencing size when I talk about juicing too as some guy use just to heal and train so hard. A lot of them use the approach to it that normal people do with paracetamol and headaches…
I personally think its more ignorant to think these guys aren’t juicing. MMA is still a young sport but how many guys have pissed hot? Nevermind the many more who have beat the very weak drug testing rules. Steroids really are old fashioned and anyone doing them deserves to get caught. It’s like walking around in flared trousers and platform shoes to be hip! So dated

Lesnar Mug shot for PED's
Lesnar was arrested in 2001 for alleged steroid possession. Later charges were dropped b/c it was thought the items were vitamins but in fact they were growth hormones. Let’s be honest – almost all of them have or still do some form of PED’s. Who cares anymore!
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/mugshots/celebrity/sports/brock-lesnar
You forgot to point out that the growth hormone was legal at the time and many athletes were taking them
And it was allowed, add the fact he was in the WWF and those are the facts. PED’s are not all banned as there are many supplements that you can take that are considered PED’s and allowed. Like I said Before Brock is a supplement freak and has the latest and greatest, does he still take them? I wouldn’t be shocked but I also think it’s reasonable to say Brock might be taking the latest and greatest legal supplements?
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson
Many make the mistake of thinking that PED's = Cocaine and other illegal drugs.
PED stands for PERFORMANCE-ENHANCING-DRUGS.
Another thing to point out : David Steele knows that it was legal at the time but he doesn’t let FACTS get in a way of a good HATE-RANT against Brock.
