I still think Gonzaga broke him....
That was the turning point in his career. He has been nowhere near as agressive or comfortable since that night. Although nothing would say loving like Cro Cop decapitating Mir with a head kick.

Cro Cop has good defensive wrestling and unless Mir gets a knock down he’s gonna have a hard time taking him down. And on the feet it’s anyone’s fight. Cro Cop also takes a punch better than Mir so he’s got that going for him as well.

People still basing Mirs excellent Mat Hamill stand up skills
on beating Nog who never threw a punch and looked like he needed a zimmer frame ,and taking out Kongo who’s pea brain made him keep his hands low, and just concentrate on the take downs are dillusional. Mirs stand up is as overrated as he is, I said he would fold as soon Carwin started to land punches, and I believe it will be the same against Cro Cop, even though he is half the fighter he was. I have never rated Mir, and two good wins over a couple of fighters who didn’t fight back did not mean a thing to me. I was waiting for him to prove me wrong against Carwin, but the fight went just the way I thought, ending with Mir seeing stars.

I understand that fans do not want to hear a fighter to mention their injuries at all but let’s be realistic.
Although Tito bitches often what he has said in the past is still valid. The same thing goes for Tim Sylvia post-Couture fight. These guys fight hurt and often on short notice. Hey Houston Alexander mentioned that he took the fight against Keith Jardine on short notice. Chael Sonnen discussed having the flu prior to his title match against Silva and quickly offered that he expects adversity, he doesn’t expect to be 100%.
Cro-Cop is merely discussing his time table and his reason for accepting the fight. I say BRAVO.

Sure MMA math does not work, but comparing common opponents is what we have. They have two common opponents that are relevant. Mir is 2-0 and CC is 0-2. CC is much smaller and does not have the sting in his punches like he had 4 years ago. CC has face below average or good competition in the last 3 years and loses to the good comp. Mir faced good and elite competition in the last 3 years, beating the good and losing to the elite.

I've seen the old Mir who fought big Timmy and the Mir that fought
Brock, Kongo & NOG and it is very easy to see the improvement. As much of an ass as Mir is he is a smart fighter that finds holes in fighters styles if he went out and fought a fighter like Barry with no gameplan he would probally lose but he will study film and find holes. And that has been CC’s biggest problem his stlye hasn’t changed even though his style has shown great weakness.

He’s been subbed once in his life about 10 years ago. Everyone can see that Cop is slower and very tentative nowadays. But the only way to exploit that is to beat him standing, Mir will NOT beat Cro Cop standing.

It discredits how good Mir looked in that fight.
He still doesn’t have gret stand-up, but it wasn;t one lucky punch that beat Nog that night. Mir beat Nog to the punch time after time after time and TKO’d him.
I agree that fighting takes its toll, but to say that he is done BEFORE a fight where Nog is favorite or saying it after he loses to Mir and then Cain in brutl fashion is another thing all together.

I think I am being objective. He connected 5-6 strikes and showed good hands. Big Nog thought it was 2001 and took the shots - and he lost in an embarrassing fashion.

No because they both hit hard as fuck. Randleman had the power to get CC down and pound him out, and Hunt had the ability to knock him out standing. Styles make fights, and stylistically, those two had better chances to finish CC.
I don’t think a guy with little power, mediocre standup, and poor TD’s could give a prime CC a run for his money. I don’t think that makes them all around better MMA fighters than Mir, but they present more difficult challenges to CC. It’s not always about who’s the all around best fighter.

After knee surgery it’s always in the back of your mind. It’s like a security blanket. I’m sure it has nothing to do with current injuries, it’s all to do with what is comfortable for him in his mind.

Mir has never had great TD’s, CC at one time in his life was almost impossible to Take Down and he was the most viscious striker in the sport. Mir has never been known for his hands, yea he can throw a punch but he’s not a KO artist by any stretch of the imagination. It’s easy to place the odds given their skill sets. Cung Le for example, when he took the SF middle weight championship, I could’ve sat here all day and said “Cung Le is a better fighter than A. Silva, he’s an undefeated champion!” No one would’ve looked at that and said “Well we won’t know until they fight.” They would’ve looked at the overall carreer, the quality of opposition, their respective skills then gone on to make their ranking. And they did rank A. Silva at #1; and they still do it today in every weight class. And most the time it’s pretty damn accurate. (And I’m not talking about P4P rankings, I’m talking about two fighters in a specific weight class so lets not even go there.)

I’d say he wasn’t even half the fighter Hunt was/is. Tank lost some fights to some really weak competition and he also gave up in almost every fight that went past 4-5 mins. See his old fights with Scott Ferrozo and Maurice Smith. Hell even before that, there’s a couple nobodies that beat him, Tank tapped to strikes in 1996 to someone I’ve never even heard of before.

As much as I'd love to see Crocop kick Mir's head off, I know it won't happen.

Who is 100% for a fight? Not many and thats a fact. Look at all the injuries in training that take fighters out of fights

We don’t know if he means 100% healed up from Pat Barry, 100% injury/illness free, 100% prepared mentally, 100% Mir game plan prepared, etc. We don’t know b/c he doesn’t exactly say in that quote…
What we DO KNOW is that this is an intriguing match up! Two former top level fighters who’s best days aren’t so far behind them that they are a novelty act. They have both been crowned champions, and the oldest is Anderson Silva’s age. Whether you think CC is over the hill and past his prime, or whether Mir is a slab of meat in a deep freeze waiting for his face to get treated like a heavy bag…I’m more excited to see this one than Mir/BigNog II.
