Retirement option: Is there 'a little chicken left on that bone' for Jens Pulver?

Quoteworthy:

"It's just a tough career man, you know I lose eight of nine fights, it's like 'What am I doing?' I'm trying to figure it out, maybe it's just that time. I don't know man, I do it because I love it. I enjoy training and I enjoy going out there and fighting. I feel good [but] it's definitely frustrating. You gotta hear the entrance song I came out to: 'A Little Chicken Left On That Bone' by Craig Morgan and that's exactly what it's about. Nobody's gonna tell me when to retire. Again, I got caught in a damn guillotine. I'm not getting knocked dead asleep and I feel physically great. I'm having a great time. I'm 34-years-old and I'm slumping, I'm slumping hard right now but I'm still having a great time. I love this life and I love this job."

Former UFC lightweight champion and ex-WEC featherweight contender Jens Pulver talks about his career options after losing his lightweight fight against Diego Garijo on the "War on the Mainland" pay-per-view card from Bren Events Center on Aug. 14 in Irvine, California. The submission loss to "El Nino" marks his eight defeat in nine fights and extended his losing streak to six. Is there anything left for "Lil' Evil?" Or should he start looking for a job outside of fighting? Any fans standing behind his decision to keep competing?

Long as he is not being KO'd over and over like Chuck its fine

Let him continue yeah hes going to continue losing and eventually will have a hard time getting paid but hes still a known name in the lighter weights and he obviously needs the money so yeah.

Hate seeing Lil Evil losing like this, it's probably time to hang it up, but I'll root for him if he keeps goin.

Been writing this everywhere but most people think he gets a choice here.

You know it’s easy for us to make fun of and clown on guys like Old shammy or Mark Kerr when they come back fight after fight to get murdered. But they are broke, they gave this sport their bodies when there was nothing in it for them aside from the love of competition. Now they have to scrounge up show money getting their asses kicked by no name kids coming up in the regional scene. In the case of Jens, he’s older but nowadays, he can’t hide his major liability which is his chin. All of his fights as of recent, he gets hit big then when he’s seeing flashing lights they sub him out. Same story over and over and it won’t stop anytime soon. That’s the ugly beauty of this sport – eventually most guys will find themselves here.

It's also mental with Jens

“Lil Evil” is dead and gone, he was a completely different fighter when he first burst onto the scene.

ODHGC

It is mental, he shouldn’t be caught in all those submissions, but he’s also lost a lot of the speed he had in his 20’s, physically he’s fine, but his genetics arent supporting him… he lost the speed n’ snap that most fighters carry with them for a few more years before retirement… If Jens would just focus on coaching, training, commentating, line of clothing or whatever it is, he could do it, but his name is already getting more tarnished with each fight.

Might be time for him to stay in the gym and stick to the coaching

In my opinion, he was one of the best coaches in all the season of TUF. Seemed to really put alot into and care about his fighters. He could defintely have success with that.

Jon Jones Cannot be Stopped! and neither can Anderson SIlva! Rampage will Reign Supreme again! Brock is a MONSTER and Kos Will win in December! Forrest Griffen is SOOOOO Overrated! BJ will Be Re-throned aswell!

If he wants to keep fighting

and people keep watching him while people keep paying him. Do it. I am a fan, but of his historical career, I don’t think he has much left to offer in terms of a ranked professional.

Damn right he's hit a slump

I hate seeing Jens lose. I wish he’d hang ‘em up, for the sake of his legacy, which is starting to be tarnished a little.
Weird to think he used to be one of the best LW’s in the world at one point.

Was watching an old fight of his and his physique has completely changed

He just looked way more muscular, stronger, faster back in the day. I don’t know if it’s the training or accumulation of dmg, but he just doesn’t look the same anymore.

No one can take away what he did in the past

but, our memories of him are already beginning to change. 8 out of 9 is bad.

he needs to retire. these first round defeats are getting embarassing.

I'm all about covering the spread and moneylines. Glory favors the bold. Chance favors the prepared mind. Luck, well i have that too. University of Utah goes to the Pac-12 conference in 2011. I expect them to compete immediately for the conference CG. Brock Lesnar will defeat Cain Velasquez. Womens MMA, the next big thing in sports. 3 weeks till the first game of college football. UTAH vs Pitt. September 2nd 2010.

honestly I don't really care

I was never his fan, but I respect his accomplishments back in the day. If he wishes to keep fighting that’s his business, but if I was in his position I’d probably stick it to coaching. He did a nice job on TUF and obviously has many different experiences to share. It’s not like he’s getting paid millions fighting in these promotions either, I think he would do nice financially with the coaching and stuff.
