Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is set to return to the Spike TV airwaves tonight (Wed., Sept. 15) with UFC Fight Night 22: 'Marquardt vs. Palhares," which will go down from the Frank Erwin Special Events Center on the campus of The University of Texas in Austin, Texas.
UFC Fight Night 22 will feature a main event between perennial middleweight contender Nate "The Great" Marquardt and muscular submission master Rousimar "Toquinho" Palhares. The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) alums and lightweight standouts Ross Pearson and Cole Miller will also hook 'em up in a bout that could push the winner into the 155-pound contender's mix.

Nate Marquardt vs. Rousimar Palhares (185-pound limit)
Round one: Palhares is a beast of a man, his size is amazing. Both men dancing for the first minute nothing has happened as of yet. Big uppercut from Palhares and Nate lands a overhand counter right. Nate pushes forward but doesnt land anything. Palhares charges in and lands a right and now Palhares shoots for a single and has a hold of a leg. Palhares gets the take down, but Nate locks in a north south body triangle. Palhares slips out and is on top in half guard. Palhares goes for a leg and Nate slips out. Nate now jumps right onto Palhares and lands a bomb of a right hand. Now Nate is pounding away and the fight is over. Nate Marquardt with a huge KO win. Palhares is complaining that Nate's legs were greased up. None the less its a win for Nate the Great.

Efrain Escudero vs. Charles Oliveira (155-pound limit)
Round one: Oliveira with a leg kick. Big flying knee from Oliveira. He is coming out throwing some crazy kicks. Escudero pins him against the cage. They are sent back to the center of the cage. Nice leg kick from Oliveira. Big straight right from Oliveira. Big left hook and then Oliveira ducks under for a take down. This kid looks amazing early. Escudero slowing down the pace and pinning his opponent against the cage. Nice leg kick from Oliveira. Flying knee misses from Oliveira and Escudero lands a right. Inside leg kick from Oliveira. Nice leg kick from Oliveira and Escudero lands a left. Inside leg kick from Oliveira. Jab from Oliveira, and now he shoots in for a single. Escudero landing some punches. Elbow from Escudero. Escudero reverses positions and is now on top in half guard. Nice short elbow from Escudero, and now he lands two more big elbows. Thats the bell, an extremely close round. 10-9 Oliveira but it could go either way.
Round two: Jab from Oliveira. Nice right from Oliveira. Big right from Oliveira. Oliveira shoots again for a single and gets a trip take down. Escudero now grabs the back though in a scramble and now the men are jockeying for position. Back to the feet and Escudero lands a good one two combo. Good shot to the body from Oliveira. Leg kick from Oliveira. Another chopping leg kick from Oliveira. Nice combo and now Oliveira has a thai clinch and lands a good knee. Escudero now pushes him against the cage and is holding on but not advancing position. Leg kick from Oliveira again. Front kick from Oliveira. Nice body kick from Oliveira. Leg kick from Oliveira. Jab from Oliveira. Sick body kick from Oliveira. Escudero is smiling but he is also loosing. Leg kick from Oliveira again. Nice right from Oliveira. Front kick and then a flying knee attempt from Oliveira. Escudero looks for a take down but nothing there. Leg kick from Oliveira again. Thats the bell, that round was all Oliveira. 10-9 Oliveira.
Round three: Inside leg kick from Oliveira, might have landed low. Body kick from Escudero. Front kick from Oliveira. Nice left right combo from Oliveira. Body kick from Oliveira. Escudero looking for an uppercut. Now Escudero lands a low knee. The ref stops the bout. Jab from Efrain. Front kick from Oliveira, and now Escudero lands a kick but Oliveira charges and launches Escudero to the mat!!!! Oliveira jumps on the back as Escudero is trying to stand up, and Oliveira has a rear naked choke locked in as Escudero is standing. Thats its over Escudero taps out. Wow that was a insane finish. Oliveira looks like a force at 155, and oh yeh he is only 20 years old. This kid is legit.

Jim Miller vs. Gleison Tibau (155-pound limit)
Round one: Leg kick from Miller and Tibau lands a good left. Tibau catches a leg kick and gets the take down. Miller with butterfly guard. Miller back to his feet. Big right jab from Miller rocks Tibau!!! Tibau ties up Miller right away and probably saves himself. Tibau with the take down but Miller back to his feet and lands a knee. Tibau keeping Miller tied up. Good right from Miller and Tibau catches a kick and almost lands a big left. Miller with a lazy shot and nothing is there. Now their tied up against the fence. Big left hook from Tibau. Body kick from Miller. Left from Miller. Miller with another left. Tibau with a counter left. Thats the bell, an even 1st rd but id lean towards Miller for the strikes. 10-9 Miller.
Round two: Nice combo from Tibau. Big right the left hook from Miller ROCKS Tibau!! Miller jumps onto him and is trying to finish, Tibau slips out but Miller lands a HUGE knee. Miller with a brief take down but Tibau back up to his feet. Tibau ducks under a jab and gets a take down, but Miller right back up to his feet. Lots of dancing around. Nice right hook from Miller. Nice right from miller and counter left from Tibau. Miller goes for a single but misses. Tibau ducks under and gets the take down now. Nice left from Tibau. Thats the bell, Miller was controlling this round early and almost finished the fight. Tibau however finished strong and ended the round on top, extremely close round. Id lean 10-9 Miller.
Round three: Nice double jab and left hook combo from Tibau. Right from Miller. Nice right left combo from a charging Miller, counter left from Tibau. Left hook from Miller and a knee to the stomach. Right left combo from Miller. Miller stuffs a take down and then lands a knee from the clinch. Nice left hook from Miller. Now their tied up against the cage. Tibau goes for a standing kimura for a second but Miller relentless with the take down attempt and is still holding on. Tibau now going for a take down of his own. The ref breaks em apart for a reset of position. Miller with a take down attempt but is stuffed. Miller charging forward. Left from Tibau. Miller shucks off a take down and lands a left hook. Their tied up against the cage. Id Lean 10-9 Miller again but this decision could go either way.
Final result: Jim Miller defeats Gleison Tibau via Unanimous Decision

Round one: Leg kick from Pearson. Overhand counter right from Miller. Leg kick from Pearson. Body kick from Pearson. Leg kick from Miller. Pearson lands a hard left hook, then a leg kick. Body kick from Pearson. Miller ducks under and shoots for a single. Pearson using a wizzer to hold off the American. Miller relentless and has Pearson down breifly but he pops back up to his feet. Now both men are throwing big strikes against the cage. Miller jumps up in the air and tries to pull guard and Pearson holds him up. Miller landing some combos now. Jab from Pearson lands stiffly. Inside leg kick from Pearson. Nice left from the Britt. Uppercut from Pearson and now a straight left that lands hard. Nice left from Pearson. Side kick to the body from Miller. Big combo from Pearson. Miller with a good counter right. Left from Pearson then a leg kick from the Britt. Nice double left hook from Pearson at the end of the bell. 10-9 Pearson.
Round two: Leg kick. Nice left from Pearson and counter right from Miller. Big left to the body from Pearson. Pearson sprawls out from a take down and Miller looks for a sweep but Pearson slips out. Their back to the feet now and Pearson peppering in hsi left hook. Good counter right from Pearson. Nice right from Miller lands hard and now another HUGE right hook. Miller charges in for a flying knee and lands another HUGE hook and Pearson is hurt bad!!! Left hook drops Pearson and he is in trouble!!! Miller jumps on his back and locks in a rear naked choke and thats it Pearson taps out!!!! WOW Cole Miller out of no where with some insane strikes which had Pearson out on the mat and then he locks in the choke for the finish. Amazing win.

since they have no ranking system these unknown fighters/fights don’t mean much until they get some fame, that’s what ppl feel is boring and so do I. I have more patience if something is on the line.

I like to see all the fights but maybe I’m alone. I like to see these fights because you get to see who moves up the ladder. If you’re an MMA fan you don’t just sit and wait for the title fights or the contender fights. At least I don’t.

I think this is a great card for a UFN.
There’s not a whole lot of star power on the card, but the match-ups should be competitive and entertaining fights. I’m looking forward to it.

Quick picks:
Nate Marquardt – Will probably go to the judges. A few tricky spots for Nate will be heavily outweighed by his better standup, cardio and “controlling” posisions.
Matt Wiman – I’m going with a really risky pick and saying that Wiman takes this by submission. I think Mac will domintate throughout whatever exchanges they have. He’ll be fired up, energetic… but i see Wiman catching him with a hook and then subbing him.
Gleison Tibau – He’s too big, strong and dangerous to lose to Miller.
Ross Pearson – 1st round tko victory. Cole will always beat the guys at the bottom on the UFC ladder only then to come up short against tougher opponents. Pearsons boxing and power will see him win this one.
