BJ Penn: 'If anyone thinks I'm in Hilo sitting on my ass, they're crazy'

Edgar_penn_medium

Props: UFC.com

Quoteworthy:

"If anyone thinks I'm in Hilo sitting on my ass, they're crazy. They don't have much to work with, they've only got Frankie Edgar. I'm not afraid to exchange with him in any way [but] I don't think he wants to exchange with me. He's going to be running around. He's just going to try and jazz up what he did last time. A little quicker, a little better, maybe throw a kick. He can run around all he wants, sooner or later he's going to have to step up to me and he's going to have to do something and when that happens, that's going to be the time. I'm going to knock him out or submit him or slam him on his head and have him get knocked out from that. I'm all about finishing my guy and I cannot wait to finish him. After it's done I want him to look at me and think 'That's what it's like to fight BJ Penn, that's what it's like to fight the world champion.'"

Former UFC Lightweight Champion BJ Penn won't play the waiting game in his rematch with Frankie Edgar at UFC 118 on Aug. 28 in Boston. "The Answer" won a razor close unanimous decision over "The Prodigy" at UFC 112 back in March, in a fight so closely contested that UFC President Dana White ordered an immediate rematch. Can the New Jersey native replicate his performance in "Beantown" and take two straight against the Hawaiian? A pretty tall order. Leave your fight predictions in the comments section below.

That would make bj more humble and keep his mouth shut for a while.

I dont even care if it is again a controversial decision

Shogun won both of those fights!

Anderson Silva is by far the number one P4P king!!! Even when he is losing a fight he still comes back and finishes for the win! GSP dominates the whole fight and still can't finish! LOL

I think that was the point he wanted to make.

i think bj will step it up..

or i will be surprised as hell if he let’s frankie get the best of him..hope it’s one hell of a fight either way…tragically PB has completely wrecked bj and i secretly wish he loses only to crush her/him!!

by sarah- on Aug 15, 2010 11:59 AM EDT reply actions

no way.

BJ is gonna kill frankie this time round.

by THORPEY! on Aug 15, 2010 11:59 AM EDT reply actions

Looking forward to this fight.

I hope Franky wins but i just dont see Bj losing again. Think Bj will cut the cage off so Franky cant run away as much and put him in some bad spots. Then after a couple of other fights for both of em we will get to see the rubber match.

BJ FTW

BJ is going to win this one easily. Frankie is not going to know what hit him. The judge’s won’t have the chance to screw BJ out of this one. I agree the last fight was close but Frankie didn’t do enough to win it IMO.

Toney is a piece of shit. Randy will win it first round TKO due to GNP.

this should be a good rematch with bj getting the finish this time.. toney has no chance but the fight i’m really looking forward to is gray maynard vs kenflo. i think kenflo splits him open and gets a sub

BJ has the power no doubt, but if he is unable to connect, then that will not matter.

Frankies hands, head and feet movement are all quicker than BJs, and that was the main reason why he could not land anything effective. He may get lucky in the rematch and land a winning punch, but trying to do it for five rounds was a very stupid tactic. If he tries it again, he will lose. He should have changed his gameplan after three rounds in the last match, hopefully he will have learned from his mistake and not play to Frankies strength. BJ is the stronger boxer, but in this case Frankies speed makes him the better boxer. Hopefully Bjs ego will not make him want to stand and box for the knockout just to prove a point. Frankies lost 1 fight out of 13 and has beaten some tough opponents, he Penn fans do no seem to be giving him any credit at all for that. I like both fighters, so I am not too fussed who wins, but I am slightly hoping Frankie will win, because of all the ‘’I told you Penn didn’t turn up for the first fight’’, or ‘’I told you Penn had to be motivated’’ comments all his fans will post if he does win.

I got BJ winning...

he’ll finish. I don’t think he’ll dominate bec Frankie is tough and well-rounded… but eventually BJ will catch him this time. I say BJ in the 3rd

i am a frankie edgar fan and a bj penn fan and i think that frankie won the first fight. for anyone to say he didnt is just bias towards bj. this next fight is going to be a great fight. and i honestly think frankie will win again by decision. I dont think bj will kno wut to do with him. Frankie is too quick. and his cardio is far more superior to bjs.

Just announced Cro cop vs Mir!!

Big Nog got injured, and they got Cro Cop to take his place!! I’m excited because I actually asked Dana for this fight on twitter (lol) over and over after Cro Cop won his last fight. I’m a Cro Cop fan and I just think he matches up well with Mir because Mir doesn’t have great takedowns. I’ll be glad to see Cro Cop get a big name win for the 1st time in a while! WAR CRO COP!!!

Yes you are correct - that title match against GSP was a special 4 round fight just for JB

I would suggest that you re-read your posts and call up a psychiatrist

And that is the best reply that you could come up with? I can see why you have to post so many times since you rarely win any discussions with all of your contradictions…..good night. Nothing personal here…just pointing out some facts which you seem to avoid.

Nothing wrong with being a die hard fan, but you must admit that Penn whines when he doesn’t get his way.

And I can say that I’m a die hard GSP fan but I’m honest enough to say that I have not been impressed with some of his victories of late as he has taken a safe approach to winning vs the dramatic flare that he had prior to his loss against Serra. He has become a boring fighter IMO although very talented.

I was a Penn fan until he got his title shot w/o being the # 1 contender at WW and then cried after being beat down something fierce. He hasn’t evolved like most other fighters and that was the point of most of the posts on this thread. Take off the blinders to realize that this man must have something on Danass because he gets his way just like a little child sometimes.

your telling me to get a life and a girlfriend cause i spent my hungover day palying poker and on an mma website. Well guess what this is a mma website im in a BJ penn thread talking about BJ and defending one of my fav fighters.

So i think im in the right place to talk about this shit. Now im sorry that your fav fighter is boring but we all pick our fighters. And i dont give a fuck if you like the fighter i enjoy to watch or not. I choose to watch penn cause most of his fights are fun to watch. He is a great well rounded LW who usally puts on agood war. And im not trying to come up with replies to impress you cause what you have showned me since i came to this site is that your really not the type of fan i would watch a ufc with anyway. And i don’t give a fuck if BJ makes anyone mad with his pre fight hype or the reasons he lost a fight. Shit i dont even care if he knocks some old lady over on his way to a taco stand. I like him because he kicks ass and its fun to watch him fight. And i like how he sells a fight also. So what i suggest to you is find a new fav fighter if your not happy with the homo you like now.

by BJPennfan on Aug 15, 2010 10:17 PM EDT up reply actions

You have proven what I have said all along

Now go give your mom, I mean your girlfriend a hug. You want verbal attacks, I don’t think you want to start one with me as you clearly lack the aptitude and ability to handle anything other than a drive through window at McD’s.

And you are not defending anything other than your stupidity which unfortunately for you is something that will carry you for the rest of your life.

I think I’ll stick with GSP and JBJ as my fav fighters since they can win with class. Enjoy your day flipping burgers or delivering newspapers.

only because he was to gassed to tap!

face it, most of the times bj steps up to the plate he ends up getting sent back to the dugout, with his fans making excuses why he struck out.

Frankie Will Beat BJ Even Worse This Time

Why is it every loss, something was “wrong” with BJ? Frankie fought a great fight, made BJ look stupid and the only 2 takedowns of the fight…BJ was on the receiving end of them.
Frankie is faster than BJ, Frankie is stronger than BJ and the clips on the 118 preview show the difference. Look at the stuff Frankie is doing and look at the same lame crap BJ is doing.
I seriously fear for BJ’s health and safety in this fight. I don’t see how he could improve his conditioning in this short amount of time. I don’t see how he could improve his speed in this short amount of time. None of this bodes well for BJ. I see Penn trying to match Edgar’s furious pace only to gas by the early to mid 4th round. Chances are, BJ will do what he did last time. Answer the bell for the 4th round completely gassed and outclassed and struggling to stay on his feet and not get KTFO.
I don’t get what BJ Penn and his fans want? Frankie fought to BJ’s weakness. BJ has shown himself to not be a conditioned athlete able to compete deep into late rounds. Frankie took advantage of that. BJ Penn is a jiu-jitsu master, so Frankie will take him down, score the points for the takedown but not stay down there where BJ can use his strengths. Frankie will take it back to their feet where he has an advantage.
There is no honor or victory in allowing your opponent to determine how the fight will be fought. Frankie understands this and because he understands, he is the reigning and defending Lightweight Champion of the World and will wake up August 29th STILL the reigning and defending Champ. BJ, on the other hand will be beat up and his fans making excuses.

by NJMMAFan on Aug 16, 2010 9:56 AM EDT reply actions

you are funny dude

Frankie is going to KO Penn. Bold statement. Retarded and bold.

"We fight, get beat, rise, and fight again."

by Deuce02 on Aug 16, 2010 11:04 AM EDT up reply actions

Bold....maybe

But those last 2 rounds, BJ was merely wobbling and was taken down twice with relative ease. BJ had nothing for Edgar and Frankie indeed won a unanimous decision.
I do not believe BJ is capable of improving his conditioning or strength in this short a time frame.
BJ can jump around and talk shit but it’s easy to talk shit when you are not talking through 2 black eyes and a body that was beaten to hell.
I don’t think BJ fares any better this time.

by NJMMAFan on Aug 16, 2010 11:33 AM EDT up reply actions

what was funny

was predicting that a guy who has never knocked anyone out will knock another guy out that has never been knocked out. Even funnier when you add the fighters name to the sentence. Also, you make it sound like Frankie dominated BJ in the first fight, which is also funny.

"We fight, get beat, rise, and fight again."

by Deuce02 on Aug 16, 2010 11:42 AM EDT up reply actions

No, What Is Funny

Is you thinking Frankie DIDN’T dominate that fight. The pudgy Hawaiian was swinging at air all night because he couldn’t keep up with Frankie and then got taken down twice after he gassed in the 4th round.

Why y’all gotta be Frankie haters? I guess haters gotta hate. Get used to having Frankie as Lightweight Champion for a long time.

Ugh

I can’t read through all this crap. 338 comments on a thread about BJ saying he is in fact training. Awesome.

"We fight, get beat, rise, and fight again."

by Deuce02 on Aug 16, 2010 11:02 AM EDT reply actions

Its on...

you didn’t hear any of this type of talk from BJ last time. He’s back! he’s going to be slapping his face and pacing back and forth like a caged lion ready to pounce. You’ll see it on Edgar’s face the moment he realizes he’s not fighting the same man. BJ WILL TAKE THIS EASILY. He’ll play with him a bit for the first…after that…

BJ!!! BJ!!! BJ!!!

To me in this sport, it’s fighting, it’s mixed martial arts, and I feel there’s too many athletes and not enough fighters…I think these people going in taking these sports enhancement drugs, they’re not real fighters, they’re athletes. I’m a fighter. I’m a real fighter. That’s all I did my whole life. - BJ Penn
