UFC 119: 'Lil' Nog plans to keep fight standing against Ryan Bader
Props: Tatame (Via Fighters Only)
Quoteworthy:
"I have not seen many of his fights, the UFC has taken the videos off the internet, but from what I saw, the guy has good wrestling and tries to take you down then work the ground and pound. He should arrive in very good physical condition and he is too damn strong! It is a fight that probably will last the distance, I have to train everything, I have to train all situations because we do not know what he will do. We want to stand and not take it down, I will not pull guard and I will fight on foot, so then have to train everything: boxing, Muay Thai, some kicks and defences to prevent his wrestling entries. It is very complicated."

this is an interesting fight
classic young lion vs old master type of fight. i just think lil nog is gonna have more tools in the toolbox than bader. i’m actually a little surprised lil nog would take this fight as there is not a ton to gain for him. all the upside is in bader’s favor but i guess he’s gotta fight someone and its better to fight bader than jon jones i suppose
The young lion against the old master match up didn't work out to well for big nog in his last fight. lol
I’m pulling for Bader in this one

I agree, Bader has shown he's a force to be reckon with.. Im predicting a possible Ko maybe.

I'm concerned for Lil Nog.
This is a very bad fight for him, I said before he even got into the UFC that all the wrestlers, even the mid-tiers would give him trouble, granted i forgot about that when he leveled Cane.
As a side note, it seems to me that a lot of fighters who I would consider the better fighter, still end up losing fights. As panthro said above, I would to consider Lil Nog the better fighter, but give Bader the win.. Chael beating Anderson doesn’t make him the better fighter, just like Werdum beating Fedor didn’t.
It seems a wrestler can be at a lower level of skill, and be able to nullify a higher caliber fighter who is a lot more well-rounded. I mean, a win’s a win, but it’s just painful to see it happen over and over again.
Chael beat the shit out of Silva for 22 minutes in that fight. Silva offered almost no resistance off his back and was even outstruck. If Sonnen had won the fight saying Silva is the “better” fighter would be pretty indefensible.
Goldberg on Leben: One thing's for sure--he really did break that door on the Ultimate Fighter.
Rogan: uh...yeah.
But Silva still won despite looking like crap
That’s what makes him a champion, he can finish a fight at any time.

i want bader to win for selfish reasons. it makes him 12-0 if he wins and a likely matchup with jones
former tuf winner and 12-0 so i might actually get a positive moneyline for jones in that fight but i guess it depends on how he finishes the fight with lil nog. hopefully a quick takedown and gnp for a tko in first round. that would help. possible but not probable.

I bet they keep Bader and Bones apart for a while, at least until there are title implications, the same way they did with Lesnar/Cain/Carwin.

you could be right.
right now jones must be hovering around 9th or 10th correct? bader around 12th to 14th. i rarely look at the rankings. plus they change alot. take luiz cane. when he was 8-0 or 9-0 or something like that he was in the top ten and then got brutally ko’d by lil nog and then got embarrassed by diabate. he fell below the 25th level i think and rightfully so.

yeah but..
cain’s a whole ‘nother animal than bader. not knocking bader but he’s gotta show me a little more than he has before i start considering him amonst the elite. i guess this is his chance to do so.
Yea this is the fight where he proves himself
I noticed he tends to gas

baders run seems to be pretty similar to cains
the lead up to the big nog fight was ben rothwell and chiek kongo. id say very similar to eric schafer and kieth jardine for bader. if lil nog has the same relevance to the lhw devision as big nog does to the hw then one could arguebader deserves a belt or at least #1 contender match
Bader's excellent, but he seemed hesitant to take Jardine down
If he trades with Nog, he loses. I see Nog stunning Bader with a hook, getting hauled down in desperation by Bader, and then catching him in a triangle.
If he tries to be exciting, he’ll lose. If he wants to win, he has to ignore the fans.
Anderson Silva will fall via brutal Republican dry-humping.
great fight
Lil Nog was taken down quite a bit in his last fight but also showed an ability to work on the ground even getting a crucifix at one point which probably won him the fight. He has some boxing skills and has dropped guys before so he has some power. Bader is kind of the typical cookie cutter American fighter, strong wrestler gnp guy with weaker stand up and submissions than Nog. I think Nog knows what to expect and will puich will out the win here. No matter what happens the winner here will get a big name next maybe Jon Jones or maybe Rich Franklin.
lil nog overpowered!!
bader has more strength when it’s all said and done! that will be the deciding factor!

Nog went toe-to-toe with Shogun on the feet and dropped him with strikes
Who the hell else has done that?
Strength isn’t enough. Bader’s going to test the waters on his feet and get caught early. By the time he pulls his head out of his ass and wrestles, it’ll be too late.
Anderson Silva will fall via brutal Republican dry-humping.
Johnny, the I know the fight with Brilz was on short notice.
But it seemed lil Nog lost his boxing skill overnight, he looked HORRIBLE on the feet.
I’m not saying Bader is a Mike tyson, but if he lands a solid shot on Nog, it’s night night.
As a side note: his fight with Shogun was one of the greatest fights of all time, if anyone hasn’t seen it, look it up!
He'd been training his striking for Forrest Griffin
Striking against someone who can put you on your ass in an instant is a whole different ball game. I can understand Nog looking bad.
Anderson Silva will fall via brutal Republican dry-humping.
He lost that fight! Worst decision ever !!! I watched that fight on the west coast with Kevin and couldn't believe the outcome!
Brilz was a stud, esp on short notice! And Nog was a fn dick! He ignored Brilz bc he was mad that he lost, then after he got a gift of a decision he then shock hands with him. I’ll always hate that scumbag for that. Sore fn loser!!!
Anderson Silva is by far the number one P4P king!!! Even when he is losing a fight he still comes back and finishes for the win! GSP dominates the whole fight and still can't finish! LOL
Anyone up for a SIG bet?
i got Bader.

Look at Nog's last fight
against Brilz, and he’s not near the wrestler Bader is…

I would have thought the UFC or someone would provide some footage of their opponents fights.
Didn’t think they would have to resort to YouTube to study their opponent
by Ponch-Hoe on Aug 15, 2010 10:51 AM EDT via mobile reply actions
you would think they would just go buy the dvd's
or download the torrents …. pretty important to know who you are fighting
The Pain Train's in full steam ! ABM's look out.
we saw lil nog struggle against brilz (eventhough on short notice)
And bader is on a whole other level than brilz.
lil nog is gonna be in trouble, bader is to strong for him.

Being a fan of the Nogueira brothers
I would be thrilled to see Minotouro come out with a win, but I wouldn’t put my money on it. Bader is coming up, has momentum, youth, strength, it’s a tough one to call.
