Former WEC Featherweight Champion Mike Brown will try to right the ship on September 30 in Broomfield, Colorado at WEC 51 as he takes on Cole Province. The promotion deemed the match up official earlier today.
"MTB" had a rough go of it last time out at WEC 48 as he succumbed to the power of Manvel Gamburyan via a first round knockout. That fight propelled Manny to a title shot against Jose Aldo, which is also set for WEC 51, and sent Brown back to the drawing board.
After reeling off ten straight wins from 2006 to 2009, Mike has tasted defeat in two of his last three bouts. The American Top Team stalwart will be eagerly awaiting a chance to prove he still remains in the discussion of the best 145-pounders in the world.
The 29-year old Province last fought in the WEC back in August of 2009 at WEC 42 where he had his split decision victory over Fredson Paixao overturned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) after he tested positive for banned substances in a post-fight drug test.
Cole rebounded at Bricktown Brawl 5 in June of this year where he finished Nick Masters via submission not even a full minute into round one.
His only other fight in the WEC resulted in a loss against Diego Nunes at WEC 37. The 6-1 Delaware product most assuredly has his work cut out for him.
