Antonio 'Bigfoot' Silva training for Alistair Overeem, waiting for Strikeforce confirmation

Antoniosilva_medium

"I know what you already know. Strikeforce hasn't been in touch with my manager Alex Davis yet to make the fight 100-percent confirmed. Anyway, I'm already training for it."

Antonio Silva today tells MMAmania.com that he may indeed face Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem later this year. The former American Top Team (ATT) athlete made it clear that the promotion has yet to confirm the potential match-up, but that hasn't stopped "Bigfoot" from getting a leg up inside the gym. With Fedor still under negotiations and Werdum sidelined until 2011, is this the only heavyweight match-up Strikeforce has left? And do you give the Brazilian a fighting chance against "Demolition Man?"

it makes sense

Werdum is out from injuries and fedor just lost. Bigtfoot is a big dude with great bjj and very heavy hands. He can most definitely win.

very heavy hands??

He could’nt even KO Arlovski and he hit him plenty of times, though I do agree i just thought I would make that crack, but we should’nt complain about the Strikeforce heavyweight division not making sense, when they start making sense is when im gonna gonna be comfused..

So it’s either this or hold up the belt. Or just give Fedor the title shot and watch everybody bitch about how another SF contender is coming in to fight for a belt off a loss.

Rogers go on to a title shot and Fedor go on to fight Werdum. I hate to accuse a fighter of ducking another fighter but that’s a real wierd arrangement..

well

im sure absolute cans and rematches with other guys he just beat in recent years either way i think hes totally content with retiring in sf and securing his legacy as “undefeated”…

by HamboWeeny on Aug 12, 2010 4:31 PM EDT up reply actions

I put up my fictional list of possibilities

The HW division is SF is very weak. They can barely scrape together new fights for him, and even then, you are looking at Hershel Walker and others.

"We fight, get beat, rise, and fight again."

by Deuce02 on Aug 12, 2010 4:33 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m looking for SF to hit the bottom of the barrel and bring Barnett back for a Fedor fight. At this point though, unless Fedor beats Overeem something awful, he will continue to drop in ranking and his mystique is all but out the window.

by Slim473 on Aug 12, 2010 4:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Barnett would be cool

but I am not holding my breath.

I put a poll up a few weeks back

I was in the minority in thinking they will be done soon. JH says they are financially sound. Don’t know how much longer that will last though.

I’m with you, just can’t see them being around too much longer without marquee fighters, especially paying Fedor top dollar and not doing PPV’s. But, who knows how much that CBS/Showtime contract is worth.

Not that I don’t enjoy having an alternative MMA org, I just question the depth of talent to consistently put on competative fights. They are about through their cycle of fighters, soon it will be rematches and trilogies of shit (re: Le vs Smith)

by Slim473 on Aug 12, 2010 4:46 PM EDT up reply actions

its tough

they were a good promotion for a lot of years. They weren’t trying to beat the world, weren’t trying to really compete with Dana. But, with Bellator gobbling up fighters, their isn’t much left. The only intriguing thing left about SF is their co-promotion with Dream.

by Slim473 on Aug 12, 2010 4:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Because fedor could win the belt then piss off to another org as SF champ and never defend the belt.

Makes sense if you ask me. And the guy just lost to a UFC cast off too which devalues fighting their champ a bit too straight after a loss.

by attakdog on Aug 12, 2010 4:23 PM EDT up reply actions
