Some womens mma is much better than some of the ufc main events put on. Riggs is just jealous cause he hasnt put on a proformance like Kaufman did. And lester I think your name speaks for its itself. Think on this: A lion never has to announce to the jungle that he is a lion.
Riggs is right. For the present, this is a sport dominated by men. The money lines are moved by the men. Nothing sexist about it, that's just the reality.

Dont get me wrong. I like watching the women fight…. but I def like watching the men fight better. I think a majority of people have the same opinions too. But they hide behind words such as “sexist” and others. If someone were to put on a card of all women except for only one male fight the card would flop. We all know this. Riggs is simply stating a truth…. clearly hes pissed about something she did and worded in a way so that it would get some attention….. but what he said is the truth.
One day I can see the women in MMA being just as dominant. But then I look at leagues like the WNBA and think….. maybe not. WNBA will never be at the caliber of the NBA.

Men's MMA may always be more mainstream/accepted than women's MMA.
But that’s not the point. Sarah Kauffman’s worst fight is more interesting than Joe Rigg catchweight fight. Or, just plain more interesting than Joe Riggs for that matter.

As far as women in combat sports go I fully support it. Heaps of people don’t want to see it and that’s their choice….it’s good to have that choice just as it’s good for women to have the choice to compete in combat sports. Unfortunately there just isn’t enough quality female fighters out there and/or the opportunities for the females to fight. Congrats to Strikeforce for showcasing some female fights. Maybe in 5, 10 or 15 years time there might enough quality female fighters to warrant their own event on PPV.

Why should she be content being on the undercard? He’s basically saying “women belong in the kitchen” as it pertains to MMA. He’s basically irrelevant to the sport as it is. If anyone needs to sit down and shut the fuck up its him. I would never put a woman’s bout over any relevant men’s events but I don’t see anything wrong with a woman fighter, much less a champion, ASKING to be put on main cards. Its her right. I’d be worried if she was content with what she was getting. Plus, women’s MMA won’t grow if the women are ok with being side shows for the men.

Is it really not as competitive?
Or is it the fact that it hasnt had the same amount of establishment time as Men’s MMA? The only reason I take some offense to this is that I have MMA Fighter friends and train with a few women, and I can tell you first hand they are both athletic and competitive.
I think it doesn’t seem as competitive is because there aren’t many fighters. I think bellator is going to change a lot of peoples minds with this 115 tourney coming up.

Them being challenging to eachother does not have anything to do with their skill set compared to the mens division fighters. I’m saying compare their wrestling to top guys in a division, their striking to top guys in a division etc… I’m not talking about the fights being entertaining or competitive. I’m talking about the skill level and athleticism of the fighters involved. Watching Kaufman slam another chick is entertaining and somewhat impressive but watching Page power bomb Arona was a “HOLY SHIT” moment. That’s the difference to me, strength, speed, power, explosiveness. That’s what I’m talking about.

But I am also saying I disagree. I think people have this mindset that “men are better” in sports, and this will continue to be perpetuated as long as people keep judging with this mindset.
I honestly don’t see the difference between the two slams. In fact, I think rampage’s “skill level” is far LOWER than that a majority of the competitive women fighters out there.
I don’t see how “speed” and “power” can be a “different level” considering rampage is a flat footed chin-up fighter who has to run his loud mouth to make up for his lack of talent.

Then why bother with a mens and womens division? If they were just as strong, just as fast, just as explosive then why is there a seperate division dividing male and female? We have 135 lbs male bantam weights they can fight. Pick any woman you want put her up against Torres, Benavidez, Bowles, Cruz etc.. and you’re looking at a beat down.

When’s the last time he got stopped in a fight? Shogun Rua, 5 friggin years ago. He’s lost 2 decisions in the UFC, no one’s stopped him in 5 years. The majority of stand up exchanges with any fighter he’s been in with usually come out with Page on top.

He does bring a valid point. If all women were as explosive as men they wouldn’t be divided up into separate leagues. I mean its science that men have more testosterone in their systems. Athleticism in men is slightly above women in general. Are there obvious exceptions? Obviously. But you cant put a top male against a top female. It would be more dangerous for the female.

But this is MMA, one woman being able to punch as hard as a man doesn’t mean much, when there are so many factors involved. It’s still a far cry from women being able to compete with men in the same sport. Can you think of a single woman that could realistically play in the NFL?

I posted up top that it is possible for women to compete with men in MMA but that day is a long way down the road. It took men 20 years to get where there at in the sport and it will take women a comparable amount of time. And when they do get to that level they will still not be as good as their male counterparts at their weight.

I don't know why they seperate the sports?
In fact I was saying earlier in my comments that I don’t believe they should. I mean they did that experiment on Sports Science where the woman boxer and man boxer each punched roughly with the same power (sorry for not being able to cite specifics).
And if we’re talking differences, black men are better at sports than than white men, shouldn’t we divide the sport?
I read a book “Taboo : Why Black Athletes Dominate Sports and Why We’re Afraid to Talk About It” and it goes into the science behind why white men and black men are different physiologically (denisty of muscle fiber, etc). It’s a good read too if you’re into sport science.
So they should be divided as well.

Your putting up a fight on this one but it’s a lost cause. Men and women are separated in every professional sport because women can’t compare either pound for pound or in general where weight is not a factor. The Olympics provides a good example. Sprinting, distance running, swimming, weight lifting. In all catagories the top women don’t usually even come near to being competitive with the slowest men. How can you possible argue that women are equally “talented” at MMA. Not only are there far fewer women trying to become professional fighters (no I don’t have proof but you’ve got to concede that) but they clearly have physical limitations that will always make them less competitive than men.

I’m arguing that women can be AS talented AS men in MMA. Correct me if I’m wrong but I never said their WEREN’T differences in men and women’s physical attributes. There are. I even argued there were differences in black vs. white men’s atttributes but there is no division line.
And yes, there are far fewer women becoming fighters but I don’t think having a “WOMAN MAKE ME A SANDWICH” attitude is the right way of creating a welcoming environment for more to join.

When you're talking about buff white dude vs buff black dude in the same weight division and the difference is
20-50 lbs on a couple lifts, and .5-1 second on a sprint it’s marginal. When you’re talking about a 135 lbs chick vs Urijah Faber at 135 lbs you’re talking about a VAST difference in strength and athleticism. Faber at 135 lbs can bench 275-300 lbs, just over 2x his own body weight. Let me see one of these 135 lbs chicks do that and I’ll concede.

Difference is
Sonnen can do a discipline of MMA (wrestling) better than Silva can, and he used that to be successful for the majority of the fight. What can Kaufman do better than Aldo? You may just be playing devil’s advocate, but you can’t possibly believe she would win that fight, or even be competitive. Urijah Faber is one of the best 145 lb fighters in the world and even he couldn’t make it a competitive fight.

Well we might but stuck at an impass on the semantic definition of “talent” –
But I’m arguing that increased strength endurance and coordination (an advantage that men clearly posses over women) necessarily equates to more talent. A random example: you don’t see women pulling triple axels in figure skating like all the men have to do to be competitive. The reason is because they can’t. Clearly that example doesn’t directly equate to a move in MMA but it does demonstrate that men can do things of an athletic nature that women can’t. That’s as good as talent to me. But if you want to contrive some abstract definition of talent that I’m not able rebut because its not a quantifiable concept then go ahead but it doesn’t change the bottom line that men are faster, stronger, have more endurance and yes, sorry to say it, more talented.

Beartrap, there is no better motivation
than someone telling you that you can’t do something. I have no problem with chicks wanting to do mma, don’t wanna watch it, but have nothing against them doing it. If people saying you can’t do it is enough to make someone not try, they never belonged in fighting anyway.
As for as women being equal athleticly, facts are facts. There isn’t a trained woman on this earth that’s gonna beat her male counterpart in any track and field event. Same goes for weight lifting and the decathlon. I will say in some extreme distance running, women have advantages, but for the most part men are physicaly superior.
Women have men beat in alot of things, athletics isn’t one.

Skill or no skill. Admitted, the chance of a more dramatic ending is higher with a guys fight but watching 2 wrestlers North/South each other for 3 rounds is not my idea of entertaining either.

I Would most certainly watch and pay for a Cyborg fight...
before watching and paying for a Riggs fight. Although I am not sure Cyborg falls under the female fighter category….That attitude is getting old. Granted the talent pool or level lacks a bit in female fights, but many of the ones I have seen have been just as exciting or on the same level of exciting as many of the televised undercards on many of the bigger promotions. I think most of the womens fights are far more exciting than any fight Fitch has been in.

It's not about skill
Nobody is comparing skill levels of men vs women or athleticism. We’re strictly talking drawing power and exposure. Womens mma may not be on the level of mens and as a whole of course the men are going to be the bigger draw AS A WHOLE, but right now Kaufman has to be at least as big of a draw as Riggs, especially after her ESPN highlite slam. And Riggs will never ever out draw Gina Carano. So if you can’t pull in more viewers than the women than you need to shut the fuck up. If this were Brock I could understand, he’s got probably the most drawing power in the sport, so he can talk the talk when he’s the king of the hill. Riggs is not the king of the hill and nobody is tuning in to see him specificly fight, so he should shut his pie hole. This is about butts in the seats and people watching on tv, and these women are pulling in more viewers than the man running his mouth.
