Fighter bonuses and awards for UFC on Versus 2: 'Jones vs Matyushenko'

Ufc81-bonus_medium

UFC on Versus 2: "Jones vs Matyushenko" from the San Diego Sports Arena in San Diego, Calif., has officially wrapped, which means that it’s time for those select fighters who went above and beyond in their respective fights to get a little extra grease for their efforts.

To the tune of $40,000 each.

The promotion dished out its standard post-fight monetary bonuses, and it should come as no surprise who is leaving the "Golden State" with a little extra jingle in their pockets.

Japanese slugger Takanori Gomi awoke from his powerless slumber by putting the durable Tyson Griffin into an early one this evening to earn "Knockout of the Night" honors. It was a devastating blow that landed right on the "off" button, turning out Griffin's lights for the first time ever and cementing his position in the lightweight division in one fell swoop.

Bravo.

Newcomer Charles Oliveira took home "Submission of the Night," and almost the arm of Darren Elkins, with a super slick and quick first round finish. And middleweights Brian Stann and Mike Massenzio were rewarded for their three round back-and-forth war, which ended with an "All American" submission, to nab "Fight of the Night."

It's too bad the viewers at home didn't get to see it.

Here are the special fight bonuses for UFC on Versus 2: "Jones vs Matyushenko:"

Star-divide

  • Knockout(s) of the Night — Takanori Gomi
  • Submission of the Night — Charles Oliveira
  • Fight of the Night — Brian Stann vs. Mike Massenzio

Again, each fighter received $40,000 extra for their performances in addition to their respective base salaries, which we will pass along as soon as possible.

Gomi bringing home the Green.

That KO was worth all the tea in China.

I've got something to say; it better to burn in hell than to fade away!!!

ya that was awsome

Thats the fight I wanted to watch most and man was i happy to see gomi get back on track that ko is huge for him mentally with a huge boost to his confidence he may start to feel like the baddest lw again

he destroys florian in a rematch I think…… I would like to see him face the loser of maynard florian

as I was watching tonight I was thinking the ufc has now employed every major star from pride that can still fight except emeliananko and I was also thinking about all the back and forth about ufc > than pride and Pride > than ufc . I think we can now come to a conclusion pride was by far greater than the ufc all along. shogun/silva/silva/rampage/noguira who did win the interim belt/gomi. the only guys from the ufc that was kicking ass back in the mid 2000’s that is still kicking ass today is gsp all the other ufc fighters are washed up at the tail end of thier careers I gues you could throw franklin & penn in there as well. remember im talking about the fighters who were stars/champions 2003 to now in ufc/pride

No question PRIDE ruled the larger weight classes.

I think the UFC has always had better LW and WWs than Pride, but couldn’t touch them at LHW or HW. When Liddell was the UFC posterboy , Dana took him over to PRIDE and bet 100 Gs that Chuck would win the Grand Prix. He got seriously rocked in Rd 1 by a rookie overreem before Rampage had him for breakfast in Round 2. And Rampage didn’t even win the tourney and was probably ranked 4th in his division in Pride behind Shogun, Hendo, and Wandy.

Rampage (Pride’s No 4) came to the UFC and wrecked Chuck for all time.

Nog (Prides No 2) came over and beat both the 2 HW champs prior to Brock.

The UFC has improved immensely since then (in no small part due to acquiring Pride), but if you compare the stables during PRIDE’s years, most of the best fighters at or over 200 lbs were in PRIDE…it was the premier MMA organization in the world in it’s day. I think the UFC roster now is better than PRIDE ever was, but there’s no question that PRIDE was better in it’s time. UFC champions were forfeiting their belts to go fight there and PRIDE was selling out 60,000 seats at the TokyoDome when the UFC was still being held in places like "Uncasville, Connecticut " and “Bossier City, Louisianna”.

all the tea in china...but not all the coffee in Japan

Gomi is Japanese and from what I could tell while I was there, the Japs are bigger coffee junkies than Seattle. You couldn’t walk 50 feet in Tokyo without passing a coffee vending machine.

Can finally show a clip of Gomi in the ufc, instead of going to his pride days! That submission by Charlies looked like a werdum/Fedor one, trapped in Triangle and arm bar, was a really slick and nice submission. Great night of fights :)

Great night for MMA fans.

My respect for Okami has grown. He controlled the fight and the split decision was a surprise for me.
Charles Cobrinha is a beast in jiu-jitsu. You’ll listen to good things from him. He came to stay for a long time.
Jon Jones impressed me with his aggressiveness and attitute to finish the fight in the begin. I’m looking forward to see him versus a top ranked opponent.
To complete the Japanese night, Takanori Gomi introduced himself to the American fans. A good performance to erase his loss debut.

im surprised.
like first minute and a half of the first round. I thought he’d win in a dominating fashion but not that fast. Honestly
