Urijah Faber injured, forced to withdraw from WEC 50 bantamweight debut on Aug. 18

Urijah_faber-610x406_medium

The upcoming WEC 50: "Cruz vs. Benavidez" fight card took a major hit today after Urijah Faber was forced to pull out of his bantamweight debut against the venerable Takeya Mizugaki on Aug. 18 from "The Pearl" at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"The California Kid" broke the unfortunate news of a knee injury via his official Twitter account.

Faber was recently pushed out of the 145-pound weight class by reigning division champion Jose Aldo. Aside from a Jens Pulver submission win, the former featherweight champion dropped consecutive fights to his temporary successor, Mike Brown, first at WEC 36 and then again at WEC 41.

His frame may be better served at 135-pounds, but it doesn't sound like he'll get there until later this year.

Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for updates to the WEC 50 line-up as there is no official word yet on a possible replacement for Faber or if Mizugaki will get pulled from the event.

it sucks but........

it was so obvious that they put him in against a guy with limited ground defense on his back so he wud be next in line for the title, its bad enuff everytime they show cruz they always show his loss to faber for no reason, i can’t stand him but do they really need to stroke the dick of faber everytime they show another fighter??

For what profit is it to man if he gains the world , and loses his own soul?

He better not lose his next fight.

BJ is going to be back in Cali training and Marv is back! Bad news for Frankie. I will be betting the house.

i kno what u guys are saying…but even if he loses itll be blamed on first time wieght cut…and besides that he should run right through bw….imo

Faber lost and forgotten? I dont think so.

Look at his record. He’s only lost to MTB and Aldo (and Tyson back in 05). The kid has talent, lots of it, but people are too used to him winning and being #1, thats just not the case anymore. Aldo is clearly the man at Featherweight. Faber is still a top Featherweight, maybe just a step behind MTB – Manny wont be in that #2 spot for very long.

Using no way as way, having no limitation as limitation.

Aldo is a beast

He retired Faber FW. He is making everyone look silly.

well this sucks

its a good thing there are already better fighters in the WEC. They should focus on putting their dollars behind Aldo.

lmao wow, that says a lot to me, it’s too bad that no one really cares. I’m not really a Faber fan, but I thought the WEC would get more attention than this.

long time reader, barely ever post…because i hafta do it by my phone…anyways, i love the WEC and theres rarely a story of theres that gets much attention…but that sucks faber wont have the chance to start his BW reign until he gets healed up…but i am looking forward to seein what type of run he puts together when hes better…

Peopel Have Said Faber is Best Suited At This Weight

Mizugaki was a very very tough first guy coming into your first cut. I bet the cut may have effected this injury.

ive stood next to faber…even picked him up to see how light we was…not to say i could tell just from that but im sure the fw cut wasnt hard for him at all….and bw wouldnt be hard either….dude is small as my lil sister…and wrestlin his whole life he prolly used to the cuts
