One of the beauties of MMA is that its so unpredictable, anything can happen. Serra finishing GSP, CroCop getting knocked out by Gonzaga, BJ losing to Edgar, and Fedor tapping to Werdum are just a few of MMA''s most memorable fights. In next 2 upcoming events we have 2 lopsided fights, one title fight and a "freak show" fight.
At UFC 117 Anderson Silva will look to defend his permanent fixture against a verbally-constipated Chael Sonnen. Sonnen has won 3 in a row, and holds a 5-2 record while emplyed under Zuffa. Many people are jumping on the Sonnen train due to emotions - Anderson's last few fights might've pissed a few people off and Sonnen's tuggin' on those heart strings. He has a following of fans who want to see Anderson lose. But lets be honest here, what danger does Sonnen possess? He has not finished a guy while in WEC or UFC, just takedowns and decisions. He was surprisingly able to get by Marquardt by exploiting his takedown D weakness, but that wont happen against Anderson. If you get in Anderson's range, you'll get spanked. Sonnen posses zero submission danger either. He's talkin' a big game by disrespecting all the members of Blackhouse, but he's just tryin' to create drama to sell the fight. He's a politician so he knows how to get his name out there. So, obviously he is a huge underdog, but many people are callin' for the upset. I just cant see it happening.
At UFC 118 The Natural will welcome James "Lights Out" Toney to the world of MMA. James has had a similar media approach as Sonnen, talk shit. The only difference is I dont need subtitles to understand Sonnen. Toney is a former boxing champion - Im not going through his accomplishments, who cares, the man is good with his hands. Toney will quickly realize how ineffective his hands will be after Randy gets the clinch (flashback: Royce Gracie vs. Art Jimmerson). Toney's hands are still dangerous, but I just dont see how he can land that 1 punch. Randy will fake the shot, Toney will swing and Randy will clinch, takedown, end of show. It's just that Toney's coming into MMA fighting the #1 tactician, the Sun Tzu of MMA, who is still competing with the young talent. But I do see Toney having the finishing advantage over Sonnen. He'll either KO Randy early or Randy will sub him early - not getting out of the first.
Sorry for my long rant, wasn't expecting to write all that, but I guess I dont have to worry about my word count, lol.
