UFC 119: Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs Ryan Bader possible for Sept. 25 in Indianapolis

Nog-bader_medium

Who's the next contender for the UFC light heavyweight title?

We may find out on September 25 when Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Ryan Bader hook 'em up in a 205-pound scrum at the UFC 119 pay-per-view from the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.

MMA Weekly brought word of the potential match-up earlier today.

Nogueira (19-3) could have an opportunity to prove he's able to hang with high-caliber wrestlers when he tangles with Bader. There were more than a few lingering questions following his last performance, a controversial split decision victory over the very game Jason Brilz back at UFC 114.

"Minotoro" was controlled on his feet and on the ground but managed to weather the storm and come out ahead on points. It was a surprising follow-up to a dominating debut over Luis Arthur Cane last November.

Nevertheless, a convincing win over one of the division's top prospects could make the argument for a 2011 title fight, pending the return of the surgically repaired champion, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, who is expected to battle "Sugar" Rashad Evans early next year.

Star-divide

Likewise, Bader (11-0) could vault himself into the top contender spot if he manages to win his fourth straight under the Zuffa banner.

"Darth" won The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) Season 8 competition by knocking the block off Vinny Magalhaes at the December 2008 TUF Finale and hasn't looked back. After consecutive decision wins against Carmelo Marrero and Eric Schafer, Bader turned the lights out on Keith Jardine at UFC 110 in Australia.

Finishing Nogueira could be a feather in his cap -- and a one-way ticket to light heavyweight gold.

UFC 119 is expected to feature the lightweight return of Sean Sherk as he faces up-and-coming star Evan Dunham. Former TUF stars Matt Mitrione, Melvin Guillard and CB Dollaway are also expected to compete.

Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for future updates to this still-developing fight card.

Bader is way too wild. He gasses out way too quick too.

Can’t keep the nerves under control i don’t think in the 1st rd. He can outbox him or get the sub here, i think the sudden opponent change probly fucked Lil Nog’s plan up a little. Bader is the complete opposite type of wrestler than Brilz.

yeah my support for Minotoro hasn't wavered just from the Brilz fight

Too many people are writing him off here. I think a classic Nogueira armbar is due here, and then hopefully he gets his showcase and No.1 contender cemented with a Forrest win. Its all about popularity wins, and when Machida puts Rampage away, that will be all he needs to get a title shot. Shogun vs Rogerio 2 for next summer!

This wasn’t the fight i was looking for! But I do think Bader will win UD!

Banky: Stop the movie? What are you, crazy?
Jay: All these assholes on the internet are calling us names because of this stupid fucking movie.
Banky: That's what the internet is for. Slandering others anonymously. Stopping the flick isn't gonna stop that.
Jay: This isn't fair. We came to Hollywood, I fell in love. Fuckin', we got shot at, we stole a monkey, and I got punched in the motherfucking nuts by a guy named Cock-Knocker.

Big Nog is becoming the Piggy Back on Success Guy....

I beat Big Nog! I would much rather see Big Nog retire than become a Gate Keeper. He made his money and doesn’t need to tarnish his legacy by being a gatekeeper…

No I work for a Guide Dog School....

I am part trainer (learning) and part Vet tech. So we had a female go into labor with all sorts of complications. SO after working my regular 12 hour shift I went to check on a preggo female and she went into to labor. I called the Whelping nurse and after about 4 hours of helping her, complications arose. So I helped to keep stable for a couple of hours till vet could get there, then ended up taking her to an e-clinic and staying there and helping for 5 hours till they were complely done and had her stable. Then in turn went home took a quick shower an returned for my normal 12 hour shift. A little more info than needed I suppose. But I am stuck with the moms overnight. So if any complications arise or if they go into labor I am normally stuck there for 16 to 24 hours. First time that I had this long of a day…

all good dude, you could easily of been talking about both of them...

Doc: You know what they say: People in glass houses sink sh-sh-ships.
Rocco: Doc, I gotta buy you, like, a proverb book or something. This mix'n'match shit's gotta go.
Doc: What?

I think you're talking about his brother..

Conan : You are known as a striker. Is that correct? Tell me what that means.
Chuck : Well I like to punch people, or kick them.

by DAFTMANIA on Jul 8, 2010 11:13 AM EDT up reply actions

lil nog is just like his brother.

he looked pretty good when he first came but with time he’s only looking worse. Ryan Bader 1st round KO ! bet on it !

by RoBerto. on Jul 8, 2010 11:23 AM EDT up reply actions

Yep..

At least lil nog has a better chance of at least being a contender (or not) than big bro..

lol at "big nog"

bader ftw

You must defeat me to stand a chance.

Agreed with you, Ulf. IF Bader does not fall in love with his "improved stand up."

I would of picked Lil Nog all day before the Brilz fight. I think I like Bader’s chances here though.

by HappyLittleTreez on Jul 8, 2010 11:36 AM EDT up reply actions

I would actually take Brilz in a rematch. I definitely thought he won the first fight. Nog looked old to me.

by HappyLittleTreez on Jul 8, 2010 11:44 AM EDT up reply actions

I am with ANS here too,

I mean fighting forrest he figured he didn’t have to work too hard on the wrestling and just punch him out quick. I doubt he even worried too much about the ground. Brilz has a way better chin than forrest and more power for sure.

Bader - Lil Nog

This has two successful outcomes. If Bader wins he is a true legit undefeated contender beating Lil Nog. Now many match ups open up. Bader is in talks with the top 5 ufc title contenders.

Lil Nog wins he has just cemented the perception that he is a contender. He is a threat to the crown.

The loser doesnt have his stock drop very much since both guys are at the top of the division. The winner or loser can then fight Jones if he beats Vlad.

I don't think it's a terrible matchup, and I can see reasons for making it. I would just be a little disappointed if I were Bones if I was taking on one of these guys next.

It seems to me that Bones is essentially getting an extra, lower profile fight, when he deserves this fight as much if not more than Bader. Just my take on it.

Main event?

I wish UFC would announce the main event for this card before tickets go on sale.

It'll be interesting to see the line after that Brilz fight.

I’m guessing Bader at somewhere around +120. Maybe even closer to even.

by HappyLittleTreez on Jul 8, 2010 11:47 AM EDT reply actions

what happened to bumpage vs lil nog?

That was prolly gonna be a barn burner, as I don’t think nog woulda been able to take him down…but since he is hollywood now, maybe he woulda…

Should Be An Interesting Fight

This will be a good fight. I wonder in Big Nog will be in his bros corner or stay neutral considering Bader was his golden boy on TUF. Either way I see Bader grinding out a dec.

Bader thinks he's a boxer now. Lil nog will eat him up boxing.

Bader had trouble putting away Keith jardine. lil nogs guna be a way bigger problem than any1 he’s faced yet.

by d*locc on Jul 8, 2010 1:29 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

Oh geez. Lil Nog is in Big Trouble.

Bader has his number already. KO or decision win for Darth Bader.

by G Squat on Jul 8, 2010 1:52 PM EDT reply actions

ya

lil nog looked lik shit against that fat guy wats his name?? bader by decision

by nawwolfe on Jul 8, 2010 2:20 PM EDT reply actions

Lil nog was handed nothing. Bader looks impressive but, who has he really fought? Lil nog has more experience, has a black belt in bjj and is a golden glove boxer. Bader is only a wrestler. Yea he has brute strength but, is he gonna chance it in stand up or on the ground? Brilz did awesome against lil’ nog, but I saw nog with a fair win.
