Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen odds for UFC 117 in Oakland

Preliminary odds and betting lines have been released for the upcoming UFC 117 main event from the Oracle Arena on August 7 in Oakland, California, featuring a put-up-or-shut-up middleweight title fight between division champion Anderson Silva and number one contender Chael Sonnen.
After enjoying a bloated -700 line against Demian Maia at UFC 112, "The Spider" has lost some of his webbing, coming in at a more realistic -450 as the favorite against the mouthy ex-politician, Chael Sonnen, who currently stands as a +275 underdog.
That's Silva's closest line in the past few years, matching his -450 against Forrest Griffin at UFC 101.
Maybe it was his antics last April, or maybe Fedor Emelianenko's loss to Fabricio Werdum back on June 26 proved that no fighter is invincible -- including Silva. Keep that in mind if you want to try and make some money on Sonnen as the UFC heads to "The O."

you bet against your favorite, so if he wins, you payed X amount to see him win. if he loses, then at least you and dry your tears with some cash.
I’ll be using that approach with Almeida vs Hughes, but I dont even think Hughes can win that one anyway.

The roy nelson like is a lot more tasty than
any sonnen bet any day. Sonnen should be a bigger dog around +300 – + 310 range IMO. He doesn’t bring much beside cardio and grit. Not enough against the best P4P fighter on the planet. People seem to forget how good he is simply coz he spent his last fight dancing around.

well they did say the same things about Sonnen for his last 3 fights
everyone thought Dan Miller would sub him, Okami would beat him, then Nate would maul him, and we see how that turns out. The only problem is, no one was convinced that he was anything til after the Marquardt win. Now people believe in him, but he wont win this time. The best time to win money on Sonnen was at the Marquardt fight. He wont be that big of a dog for a very long time.

The Leites fight was crap as well.
He also only looked good against Forrest because it was Forrest. Sonnen will not be trying to use mediocre stand up to take him out. This the first time in a while that Silva is going to be facing someone who is going to put some real aggresive pressure on him. He will be fighting Sonnen of off his back. I am just not sure with all his easy wins (the last 5) that he is going to be able to handle it well. Sonnen has proved himself in his last couple of fights. He schooled two number 1 contenders, and he was never in trouble or never got tired. That speaks for itself. If could land some of the elbows that Quarry gave to Jason MacDonald. Then I would have no doubt he would win. If Quarry had landed on top of Maia and rained down those elbows. It would have been a different result. They were definitely some of the most viscous I have seen.

I thought if you threw down 100$ on let’s say +200 that would pay you 2 to 1? So you would walk away with 300? $100 of it obviously being your original of that 300$?
Can you explain how that works out that you only get 60% of that at 275$? From +450? Off of 100$. Not being cocky either, I’m looking for a breakdown on how you get 275?

The easiest way to look at it is +300 is 3to1, +400 is 4to1 and so on, and so on. Its betting favorites that’s a little more confusing cause then you’re using 1/5ths and fractions etc.
-500 is 1/5th of what you lay down.

Sonnen is 275, so if you bet $100 on Sonnen it pays out $275. Silva is -$450 so you’d have to bet $450 to win $100. The money line revolves around $100. Plus () is what you win for your $100. Minus (-) is what you risk to win $100.

It’s the fact that he can grind out decisions by being active all the time, draining his opponents and making them throw out their gameplans once they’re on their backs..
