Top ranked UFC light heavyweight Antonio Rogerio Nogueira slams the mouthy rise to fame of Chael Sonnen, who faces Anderson Silva for the middleweight title at UFC 117. Of course the Nogueira brothers were part of Sonnen's rants, when he referred to "The Spider's" black belt as "a toy that you get in a happy meal." Whether or not his trash talk has gotten under the skin of Silva remains to be seen, but it definitely sounds like it's starting to irk the Nogueira's. Anyone think the former politician is going to eat his words on August 7?

in all fairness
you have a 50% chance picking every fight

Thats only 50% if Werdum and Fedor were a quarter with no variables.
Other than that the variable in the fight was Fedors skills, history, KO power, and jitz defense. werdum was only superior Jitz and mediocre striking. However we did not consider the ultimate Fedor variable. his diet. Damn that soft serve vanilla ice cream .
Sonnen is the favorite in my opinion. Silva can’t KO him from his back. Silva’s only chance is if Sonnen gets cocky and tries to bang with him or if Sonnen gets too excited on the ground and leaves himself exposed for a sub.
to elaborate…You’ll recall at the time that everyone thought Henderson would be a challenge stylistically for Silva….well Chael is that same thing, but he’s younger, he won’t gas out, he’s just as tough, and he knows what his strength is and won’t try to stand and bang like Hendo.

Although I wouldn’t call Sonnen the favorite. Anderson is still the favorite but the comparison with Hendo is 100% spot on.
i wouldnt compare chael to hendo at all other than both are team quest guys, hendo is mostly bomb throwing greco wrestler, who eats punches for lunch.
sonnen is a freestyle wrestler with great greco credentials, he just shoots a whole lot more which we all know anderson silvas double leg defense is SHIT ask travis lutter.. chael is much more of a grinder than hendo with a ton of cardio.

Strike 3: Anderson smashed Hendo. Sonnen would wear out Dan “Zero Cardio” Henderson and beat him no problem.

Anderson beats Sonnen in a fight, Sonnen may win the wrestling but 25 mins is enough time for Anderson to bust Chael’s face open.

Oh i agree that wrestling and cardio can ride on top
for wins. But being supper aggressive on the bottom means that you’re winning if the guy is just laying on you. And against the more dynamic fighter especially in a longer fight, it’s only makes sense that Andy’s aggressive guard will ensnare him in one of 5 rds. Hell Marquardt was catching him left and right but Chael gutted through them (even said he passed out once off the guillotine.)

Although Anderson has more ways to win than Chael
I could definitely see Chael wearing Anderson down, making the takedowns easier as the fight progresses. I think Chael will have the cardio advantage for sure. Chael might have a big mouth and go a little overboard at times but he’s a smart dude that I’m sure is training a lot in the guard, avoiding submissions and coming up with effective strikes. No way does Anderson stop his shot in my opinion. But for five rounds that’s quite a few shots for Anderson to land a strike with bad intentions.

Sonnen underestimated Maia and just landed perfectly ending the fight with that beautiful triangle. And Nate is as big and strong as any middleweight. But you’re right about Sonnen being susceptible to submissions. But I just feel that he’s a smart guy who trains with a great, experienced fighter in Matt Lindland and will work very hard on this. Sonnen even said that if he doesn’t get the takedowns he’s a dead man. He’s not delusional.

When will wrestling finally be considered a martial art with the same level of respect as BJJ. It’s clearly as effective in MMA as the others. And has been widely accepted as the best base to start MMA from based on muscle growth and explosiveness, balance, endurance, and also the ability to cut weight and recover. All the respect in the world to Anderson. I just think it’s very disrespectful to dismiss a high wrestling pedigree and glorify a high striking ability. Not as exciting yes, but clearly as useful in an MMA fight.

Anderson is superior at everything besides wrestling to Chael and Andersons guard is no fucken joke he can find himself getting a sub rather quick Chael has never shown good JJ defense ever and he doesnt have the same chin that Hendo has or power. So no he wont be anymore of a challenge then anyone Anderson has faced unless you are comparing him to Maia who would get smoked by Jacare but since hes in the UFC he gets mad hyped and is top 10 because hype =skill somehow…

I dont see Sonnen winning this fight at all. The only way he wins is by grinding out a decision, and in a 5 rd fights, I dont see Sonnen consistently taking Silva down, keeping him down, and winning 3 rds. If it gets past the first round, it’ll be because Silva allowed it. What dangers does Sonnen actually possess? KO Power? No. Subs? No. Speed? No. Takedowns? Not against Silva. Try catching Silva is like catchin a greased up featherless chicken. He doesnt stand still. If you get in the clinch, you’ll be eating knees as a midnight snack before you go to sleep.

I like watching Anderson Silva perform...........
……..when he comes to fight.
However, I’m tired of him acting like a dipshit, no matter what his reason is. He’s paid to fight. Screwing around acting like an ass is not fighting. If he wants to do that on his own time, more power to him, but doing it when he’s getting paid to fight is ripping off his employer, as well as those who paid expecting to see him put his FIGHTING skills on display.
With that said, I hope Sonnen finds some way to put him on his ass and inflict some damage.

GSP is scared of Anderson, he knows it and so do all the GSP fanboys. Granted he is a very talented fighter but he stifles opponents instead of beating them, often cancelling out their gameplan instead of implimenting his own! He is rather boring these days and fights like once a year! Anderson would kill GSP! At a catch-weight and 185! As for Sonnen, he’s going to have one bad night!

I honestly believe that Silva could clear out d welterweight, middle, light-heavy and heavyweight classes. I dunno… I am that impressed with his skills

Dan henderson took him down. And Lesnar is WAAAAYYYYYY more explosive and powerful. One step at a time. If he can hold both titles (MW & LHW) then the discussion could be open. Still believe the weight difference would be too much for him to handle.
