The more I think about it

The more sure I am that Carwin could have finished it by just mixing some body shots into the pounding.

Anderson Silva will fall via brutal Republican dry-humping.

I have been nothing but accepting of the loss

What I’m saying is that Shane could have seriously hurt Brock or at least forced him to move his guard and leave his face exposed.

He tried, Shane was more shocked that the first four or five didn't finish it

Shane should of stopped throwing and worked for better position and if he couldn’t let Brock satnd back up while he was still wobbly. But should of could of would of is all Carwin can do right now.

All fighters make some kind of mistake in a fight win or lose.

This fight is no different but doesn’t change the fact that the best man won.

there is a difference, and the difference is the outcome of a fight.

u need to meet an opponent more than 1 time to really find out who the better man is, these guys haven’t gone head to head with cain and junior yet.

by RoBerto. on Jul 4, 2010 3:44 PM EDT up reply actions

Well I believe Carwin will rebound and win his next two or thre and fight the champion Brock again

I really believe Carwin and Brock are the two best. Great thing is we will find out but your right like Machida and Rua we might need to see #3 this could be one of the greatest rivalries in MMA!!

But regardless Brock right now is number 1 his suspect chin is no longer and he will improve every fight that is almost certain after his one year layoff!!

Absolutely. If he would have picked his shots better, rather than slugging and hoping the ref was going to stop it, he could have won. Next time.

Carwin could have finished but he didn’t. I still think he has the best shot of beating brock out of all the hws

by goldmouth on Jul 4, 2010 2:55 PM EDT reply actions

He dominated Brock in every way except one – cardio. Shane made a mistake of thinking the ref would stop it and punched himself out, a mistake he won’t make again if Dana gives him a rematch.

But it was fun watching Brock run away like a girl, and curl up in the fetal position haha

No he only dominated one way and thats striking. Every other way Brock dominated

And thats no myth

In the first round? Are you delusional? Brock tried to take him down, and Carwin shrugged him off lol. Brock had no answer at all in the first round.

by mythbuster on Jul 4, 2010 4:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah that happens to the best GSP has been shrugged of by BJ

regardless Carwin only win was in the striking on the gorund and grapple Brock was the better man. The first round Brock survived thats all he needed to do this is MMA championship fight and one round doesn’t prove anything unless you finish the fight. Brock proved why he is the #1 HW in the world deal with it LOL

Say it again cause they hate it

Say it again Puck Head. Brock Lesnar is the #1 HW in the world. You and I have seen things differently on other subjects but on this one we have always agreed. Now there is no doubt. The haters just want to deny it.

by ASR on Jul 4, 2010 5:18 PM EDT up reply actions

Lesnar is better on the ground?

did u draw that conclusion from the 2nd round when carwin was to gassed to do anything? cuz if they exchanged blows in the 2nd, i think brock would come out ahead too, would u also call him the better striker?

by Nikolai_ on Jul 4, 2010 4:57 PM EDT reply actions   1 recs

I call him a better fighter

Actually the best fighter because Lesnar made Carwin tap instead of passing out. I think too many people are looking past the fact that Lesnar has openly said that he was letting Carwin punch himself out once he felt Carwin’s punches weaken.

by ASR on Jul 4, 2010 5:20 PM EDT up reply actions

NO your wrong Nik becasue striking doesn't take as much endurance as wrestling

I would expect any MMA fan to know that?

"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson

by Puck Head on Jul 4, 2010 5:26 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah i agree with that, wat's u'r point?

all i’m saying is, if carwin is so tired that he’s not defending anything, how can u draw any conclusions on which fighter is better standing or on ground? skill doesn’t factor in anymore if u can do wat ever u want uncontested. Maybe lesnar is better on the ground, but rd 2 doesn’t tell u anything

he weathered the storm, then let his insane cardio do the rest

by Nikolai_ on Jul 4, 2010 6:39 PM EDT up reply actions

The same as you can from a couple takedown stops

Like I said it took many for GSP to get a smaller BJ down does that mean BJ is a better wrestller? No it doesn’t Brock on top of a non fatigued Carwin would still do great damage and be in Brocks court something he has proved to be good at, and standing Carwin would still have a a decent chance even fatigued because it doesn’t take as much endurance to throw a punch as it does in defending the grapple. If Brock was able to get Carwin down earlier he could of easily worn Carwin down and the fight would of been much the same without Brock taking as much damage.

“lesnar has proved to be good at wrestling” – i don’t think anyone will disagree with u

“Brock on top of a non fatigued Carwin would still do great damage” – HERE! u don’t know this, you’ve just been extrapolating it from u’r last point, cuz it sure as hell didn’t come from last night’s fight. Last night’s fight didn’t answer anything about who was the better ground fighter

by Nikolai_ on Jul 4, 2010 7:24 PM EDT up reply actions

Endurance is huge for any fighter

toughness is also huge for any fighter as well as heart and something that can’t be trained for only a gift certain fighters may have. No matter how skilled a fighter is the ability to be able to take punishment and find a way to win something one of the greatest HW’s in the world has been threw in many fights and thats NOG.

This fight we all learned that Brock can take anyone strike, and that he has the heart to fight threw something many haters doubted Brock with both and there is nobody including myself that thought any fighter in the worlds could take Carwins strikes and Brock did wich is simply amazing and no matter how you try and make it sound Brock proved a ton in who he is and what he can do becasue Carwin will be the strongest man Brock ever faces. Will Carwin be the best? I think so.

I don’t think anyone can take the right straight.

Watch the fight again he took more than one clean shot

And I doubt anyone else could of taken what Brock just did.

Wow I think Brock fans are more annoying than Fedor fans at this point. Anyone who says Brock did everything better than Carwin in that fight is lying to themselves. Carwin even stuffed brocks takedowns

Brock got one takedown with a gassed Carwin and he did everything better? If Carwin didnt blow his load and let Brock stand back up so he could swing and ko his ass he wouldve won. Bad decision on Carwins part props for Brock for surviving

by Kayo on Jul 4, 2010 7:55 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Yeah we all knew Carwin had was more a more proven striker than Brock

And that was proved but the best fighter won in the end. We seen Fedor take a beating before and comeback and win so becasue it’s Brock the ahters want to point out the negatives they seen and forget about the positives wich there were many. I remember NOG taking beatings many of times and come back to win much like Brock did here. Only difference is the haters don’t want to credit Brock instead blame Shane for a mistake? Stopping takedowns for one round is one thing as BJ Penn did agaisnt GSP but to do it all fight is another thing and Carwin used a lot of energy stopping the takedowns especially the one were they were tied up both on there knees Carwin was using everything he had to get back standing. Brock did a great job at making Carwin work.

We watched for many years Barnett with weak stand up but great ground game win many of fights agaisnt good fighters only problem for Brock is the HW division has 2 other good wrestlers and we will see Brock face the only other Div 1 wrestler in the top of the UFC HW division.

just to make it clear, i’m lesnar fan. when lesnar held mir down and just beat the shit out of him, i thought that was totally badass. i wanted to see if that would work on carwin, cuz i wasn’t convinced lesnar would be as effective. Mir was content being on the ground as he was looking for submissions. But carwin is as big as lesnar and comes from the same wrestling background, so probably wouldn’t be in those wrestlings holds for very long

but instead i saw lesnar demonstrate an arm triangle on a motionless carwin, but it still was a really really amazing comeback

by Nikolai_ on Jul 4, 2010 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Carwin does not have the same wrestling background

Div 1 wrestling is much more competitive than the div 2 Carwin was in.

"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth - Mike Tyson

by Puck Head on Jul 4, 2010 7:56 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah this is why i wanted to see some wrestling in the fight, it’s like ppl just say lesnar will destroy carwin at wrestling, now we have no answer

it was my thinking that carwin would be able to wrestle his way back to his feet whenever it got to the ground, forcing lesnar to strike with carwin most of the fight… which is why i lay money on carwin (but routed for brock the whole time!)

in hindsight, i still think it was good bet, i just didn’t know carwin’s cardio was shit

by Nikolai_ on Jul 4, 2010 8:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Im a huge Brock fan also it felt so great when he beat the sh*t out of Mir

But say if it was Fedor last night in the cage against Carwin and say he performed the same exact same way that Brock did the same people who said Brock did so great would be the same people that would be bashing Fedor today. Saying he ran away got dropped by a nobody named Carwin and got lucky he gassed :) hipocrates gotta love them

by Kayo on Jul 4, 2010 8:02 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

You can't call me that, I was one that credited him for staying weathering Rogers GnP even though those that thought Rogers had weak GnP

All wrestlers use very little of their entire wrestling that they would use in real wrestling. You are right there but on the ground in MMA Brock has shown amazing speed at transitioning from one phase to the next something even strength can not stop. And Brock keeps it simple the fact he has submissions in his tool box makes him even more of a great grappler but most importantly all the good MMA grapplers have one thing that was proven last night and that is endurance.

What question?

If that was Fedor taking those shots and he survived Fedors status would be raised even higher in most fans eye’s. But thats all hearsay. NOG was famous for doing what Brock did last night, but the haters won’t admit that will they Kayo.

Puck I think Brock was supposed to string the fight out 2 or 3 more rounds so they he could GnP him for a round. Take him down over and over for a round. Then finish him.

by Jimbobb on Jul 4, 2010 10:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Brock wanted to make this a grappling fight

No doubt about and thre or four failed attempts would will not stop Brock in trying. He does need to work on his stand up but he doesn’t need to be great att it jsut solid D and enough strikes to make the takedowns easier. But for not fighting for a year he showed great heart and a solid chin something the hater will no longer be allowed to use LOL
