Yushin Okami: Beating Mark Munoz puts me closer to a middleweight title shot (Video)

But do fans want to see him rematch "The Spider?" Or is Vitor Belfort next in line if Chael Sonnen falls on August 7?

Yikes

I can see why there are no interviews with “Thunder.” That was brutal.

It is not enough to succeed. Others must fail.

Plenty of people in line ahead of him

After Sonnen its probably Belchers turn after he knocks out Maia.

And after that it could be Marquardt or Paul Harris.

All three of them would make mincemeat out of little yushin.

VITOR VS ANDERSON

Vitor is the only guy I see having the balls/skills to stand and trade with A.S. and actually give him a run for his money.

So only the UFC wins count now? You’re gonna ignore the fact that his last 3 fights ended by KO, and 2 of the 3 were Lindland and Franklin? He finished Rich faster than Anderson did; the last time the guy lost a fight was in 2006; give me a damn break.

i'll give you that. i dont see anyone else in MW competing with AS, but Dana shoulda given Belfort a 2nd fight.

The reason he didnt is because he didnt want to chance Belfort losing and moving down the ladder.

They two should fight for a shot at Andy.

I am with Lester.....

Maia is gonna tap belcher 1st Rd RNC. But he won’t be ahead of Yushin for a rematch. Vitor…..i just don’t get it how a catchweight fight makes you a contender and i think people need to realize that he’s not good enough to stand with Andy. Marqy is coming off of a loss so a win against a top 15 guy shouldn’t be good enough for a title shot. Paul Harris winning though might be warranted…. andy will fight him back. So that leaves Yushin for the lowest rated PPV in UFC history. But hjey it’s a fucking sport not WWE.

so its a waste to even mention okami…MAYBE if he beats the winner of maia belcher…but impressively…but still…if sonnen pulls off a miracle…it would be retarded to have him face sonnen again so soon…sonnen tooled him

Looking down the road; lets say Bisping beats Akiyama

Which I think he will cause of the size difference; does that make The Count a viable contender or at least put him in a position to fight for contendership? I can’t see why Belcher’s name is in the mix; he just lost to Akiyama not but 2 fights ago, he’s got two decent wins recently but lets be real here, Gouveia was never a world beater to begin with and Cote was coming off a LONG lay off. I’d say beating Dan Miller and Akiyama would put Bisping on about the same level.

Now, looking at those options, do any of them really stand much of a chance at taking the title? Hell no; MAYBE Sonnen can grind a decision, but the only fighter I see being a competitive match up for A. Silva right here and now at 185 lbs is Vitor Belfort. IF Anderson gets past Vitor and Chael it’s time to vacate 185 lbs for good, cause he’s not gonna have any more competition down there.

Wandy beat him and Wandy vs. Anderson is a way more marketable fight. Belcher, if he beats Maia, would be pretty convincing as a contender.

Marquardt was taken down at will and DESTROYED by Sonnen

What has he shown you that makes you think he’s gonna tool Wand if they fight? Wand has more power in his strikes, is more aggressive, and his TDD and sub defense are as good or better than Nates; Marquardt’s got a few slick tricks on the ground, but nothing Wand couldn’t handle. And if he tries to plant his feet and get into a shoot out with Wand he’s getting layed out. He could jab/run/jab run his way to a decision but tool Wand? Pass the crack pipe.

i acutally can see bispings time coming soon. he can never pull through with that clutch fight.. he always racks up all those impressive victories.. gets right to the gate and falls.. but right now i don’t see many viable contenders he would take belcher or leben again if they go that way.. maybe they do okami/bisping. i still see bisping taking that fight too. right now outside of fighting vitor he has a good chance of working up there

I find people on here believe in the MMA ranking systems

Does Boxing follow rules of wins and who is ranked higher…no

Does pro wrestling have a legit contenders ranking?..NO

Does The BCS even arrange proper standings?..NO

The UFC doesnt care about the wins and these elabrorate chemistry equations in appointing their contenders. The UFC doesnt have If A beats B and then beats win of G/H it gets the shot. The UFC needs three things to justify its contenders. 1). Does he have a win over a name and is on some sort of streak, 2) Is he Marketable and has a fanbase, 3). Can we benefit from this fight happening?. The UFC in my eyes has 4 guys their looking at to place against the Anderson Silva

1.)Vitor Belfort: A legend in the sport and name that everyonone who watches MMA will know. The guy throws his fists and hardly ever has a boring fight. Has a huge cult following and is an icon in Brazil.

2. Wanderlei Silva: A Pure beast thats loved by pretty much 99% of the crowd. Has the Pride following and is once again a legend, win or lose BIG MONEY VALUE

3. Chris Leben: A guy whose willing to do whatever for the company and fits the hardcore/rocker scene withe tattoos/dyed hair. Has beaten 2 men in a matter of 2 weeks and had fight of the night honors ALOT. Has exposure from the TUF series and is popular, red-hot right now

4. Yushin Okami: The UFC is dying to break into the Japan MMA culture at any cost. Okami has alot of wins and regardless the sport is razor thin when it comes between wins/loses that he comes off as impressive.

There's no such thing as an official ranking.

Everyone has their own ranking (Sherdog, Yahoo, Wamma, and every individual fan), but nothing’s ever official. Every organization makes their own decision on who fights who next. At the end of the day its about making money. All the things you listed can be combined into “who’s gonna sell me tickets in the short-term and long-term”. In most cases, its whoever is winning, because thats what the fans want to see, but in some cases, its whoever is starting drama, because thats what the fans want to see, and in some cases its about expanding into new countries to get new fans (more money).
