135 lbs.: Dominick Cruz vs. Joseph Benavidez
Round one: Here we go with the big one! No gloves touching here. Push kick from Benavidez. Cruz's footwork is on display here early. Nice lean in punch from Cruz. They tie up momentarily. Nice counter from Benavidez. Both fighters miss with big strikes, Benavidez a kick and Cruz an uppercut. Cruz shoots and scores on a double leg with 15 seconds to go. Benavidez tries for a guillotine and then pops back to his feet. Another close round. I'd give it to Benavidez. His counter striking was on point that round, and the takedown at the end was meaningless.
Round three: Benavidez wants the center again. He's looking to counter strike. Benavidez with a takedown attempt. Cruz sprawls nicely to avoid it. Benavidez just misses with a hard right hand. Cruz with another leg kick. They tie up in the center and Benavidez does nicely to punch and kick is way out. Nice body kick from Cruz. Body punches from Benavidea. Cruz again shoots with seconds remaining in the round, and again he scores with it. Those aren't worth much to me at this point. I'd still give that round to Benavidez.

A big round for the champ ends there.

Benavidez slips while swinging hard and missing with a right hand. Thirty seconds. Benavidez is flurrying. Big exchanges and now Cruz scores with a takedown. Flurry from the top by the champion and the fight ends there. The takedown was there at the end by Cruz again, but still, Benavidez won the rest of the round on his feet. It's going to be interesting to see how this fight is scored.

Wow, no posts for this?
No wonder the WEC’s ratings continue to decline! I’m still a big fan and look forward to seeing what Faber can do at 135.
"Howard, you really think they're gonna let you put out a whole movie just about tits?"
"Sure, who doesn't like tits?"

It's because there are no heavier weight classes IMHO.
WEC will continue to fill the niche of hardcore fans who know what a quality card they always put on and know that these little guys always bring it. But I think as an organization ratings will suffer from not having WW and up. No other MMA org I can think of does that. I realize that zuffa owns them as well as UFC and they have their reasons. But I think the bigger weight classes drive the numbers. It may not be right but that’s the way I see it.
Do not. I repeat, do not, go to mma-core.com. I made the mistake of watching a couple UFC 108 bouts on there and I am still trying to get all the viruses of my computer. Ridiculous! You've been warned.

Haven’t seen a WEC card so far I didn’t like.

I like the feeling of hunting down what I feed my family. If there’s a beast out there capable of hunting down Brock Lesnar, he would do it and make me the trophy on his den wall. I got Jorgenson 2-0
But it’s a tough one to call I think round 1 could have gone either way. As far as punches landed it’s been close but Jorgenson has a slight edge with the TDs. He’ll probably keep him down and cruise to the decision though I hope they get back up to the feet. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a fight where guys have landed so many clean punches to the face and still kept up this pace, the WEC if f’ing awesome.

Any boxer vs Carwin or even Lesnar would fail (excusing lucky punches) just due to having no idea how to stop a takedown.
Also, I think leg kicks might play a huge role to skinny-leg boxers.

And have no problem with the idea of legit boxers getting in the mix but not this guy…I’m not a Couture fanboy by any means this guy’s inane nonsensical smack talk is just wearing on me, plus he’s way past his prime and obviously doing this just for a paycheck.
