UFC on Versus 2: Jon Jones forced Vladimir Matyushenko to get into the best shape of his career
Props: Pro MMA Radio
Quoteworthy:
"He is a pretty different guy and he's difficult to prepare for. He doesn't have one main style. His style changes all the time. He changes his stance, he has a long reach and is very explosive. I haven't really fought anybody like him. But it makes it interesting. It's making me prepare for carefully for the fight and making me bring a bit more creativity into it. Obviously I can't make my reach longer, but I can come into the fight in the best shape of my life. I had great partners to train with and I'm sharper than ever."
We're just a few short days away from returning to top-level mixed martial arts action, this time in the form of UFC on Versus 2. The main event is set to feature one of the sport's brightest young stars, Jon Jones, as he takes on the epitome of a veteran journeyman, Vladimir Matyushenko. And as you can tell from the way "The Janitor" details his opponent on August 1, he has his work cut out for him. "Bones" is bigger, faster, more explosive, and possesses far more overall talent. But he hasn't won yet. Who's giving the former IFL champion a chance to derail Jones' meteoric rise to the top of the 205-pound division?

Its a Scary Thought
Greg did an interview with Sherdog I think talking about this fight. Says what alot of us have been saying. Vlad is no joke, he grinds, he makes fights ugly and can more then put pressure on Jones.
The Janitor is no joke.
I am actually sick of defending him, but I want him to put Bones in trouble. I want to see how Bones faces adversity. And if by some stroke of luck, Vlad wins, how does Bones come back? Stronger? Hungrier?
This a more intriguing fight to me than any on 117.

I agree Ulf. Janitor isn’t getting much love. One thing that is different from him than Jone’s last two opponents is age/experience. Both Hammill and Vera looked scared of Jones…like they bought into the hype and lost before they ever got in the cage. I think Matyushenko will do better than those 2.
This card might actually be better than 117 in my eyes. Munoz/Okami and Gomi/Griffin should be really good.

Mad respect to the Janitor. This is no walk in the park. This is just a good fight, through and through.

vlads up to +450 im not sure i can resist much longer...
I like the feeling of hunting down what I feed my family. If there’s a beast out there capable of hunting down Brock Lesnar, he would do it and make me the trophy on his den wall. But the laws of nature dictate that I’m going to be the one who goes into the wild and comes home with the evening’s bounty. - The #1 ranked HW in the world...

what kind of game plan do we think jones goes in with?
"its either going to be genius or its going to f***ing suck. Until I see the first cut I have no idea. But you know what? Neither does anybody else"
Using The Reach
throwing double jabs, pawing. Keeping Janitor on the outside with his major reach advantage. Being unorthodox in a controlled manner. Using Vlads momentum when he shoots or clinches to put him on his back.

The interview on Sherdog
Greg also talks about how the game plan comes to together for a guy like Bones…basically when jones is faced with certain situations there are several options available to him and he picks and chooses which way to take the fight. Greg talks about it being an open game plan where Jones chooses from different options available based on the momentum and position he is in. It kinda reminds me of those choose your own adventure books I read when I was a kid.
You know what would make a good story? Something about a clown who make people happy, but inside he's real sad. Also, he has severe diarrhea.

Would you like to
A. Follow the River
B. Go up the mountain
River—ah shit, I just got eaten by a crocodile. Better try the mountain pass…

You guys are Funny..
Vladimir will get used to Mop the UFC Octagon floor. Once Vlad locks up with Bones he will flip him onto the floor violently and finish Bones off G N P. You did see how he flipped around that All American Wrestler Matt Hammill. Bones is on another level Athletically. Experience means Jack when your opponents bigger, stronger, and faster. Not to mention Bones trains with the best MMA fighters around…. Vlad has a 1% of winning. :D

thats a bold statement
especially considering Jones’ biggest win so far was against Brandon Vera. 1% huh? I like Jones, and like his chances to win, but you are giving Jones too much respect and Vlad, not enough.

Th fight will give Bones a nice test
Vlad is a very sound opponent and derserves all our respect. He has had some ups and downs but, after 10 years we are seeing a man whose stuck around. Hes only lost 2 fights since, 2005(1 against Arlovski at HW and a loss against Lil Nog who he had already beaten prior). Vlad may have a reach problem but, hes smart and will find a way inside. If Vlad gets then that reach will only become an issue for Bones. I am betting Bones wins but, wouldn’t be overwhelmingly suprised to see a Vlad win.
I like both fighters... I'l go for Vladimir on this one!
But Jones is too young and too athletic for Vlady… Jones tko 2nd round
Does Anyone know if it will be on Sportsnet?
I don’t get Versus so I was hoping it might be on another channel in Canada?
Architecture is the art of how to waste space.
VS is usually TSN2 in Canada. Or at least it tends to be for NHL games that play on VS
If there is something deemed “more important” to air Sunday night, they will put UFC on TSN2. If not, it’ll more then likely be on both TSN and TSN2. So check for a CFL game, cause it will push UFC to TSN2.
