UFC 117: Tim Boetsch vs Todd Brown set for Aug. 7 with Thiago Silva hurt
Thiago Silva has been forced out of his UFC 117 fight with Tim Boetsch due to a back injury that was suffered during training.
Sherdog.com brings word of Silva's replacement for the fight, UFC newcomer Todd Brown.
Silva was last seen duking it out with "Sugar" Rashad Evans in the UFC 108 main event earlier this year. Despite having the former light heavyweight champion on rubber legs towards the end of the fight, the exhausted Brazilian could not capitalize and came up on the wrong end of a unanimous decision for just his second loss since joining the UFC in 2007. Outside of Evans and current champion Lyoto Machida, Silva is 5-0 inside the Octagon, with TKO wins over Keith Jardine, Houston Alexander and James Irvin. But the chance for Thiago to get back in the win column will have to wait for now. Instead, Todd Brown has been afforded an opportunity, albeit on short notice, to properly introduce himself to the fight world. "Bulldog" will be carrying a 11-1 record into his UFC debut while riding an eight-fight unbeaten streak.

*putting on my tinfoil hat* IDK about this. Either his back is prone to injury or this is some sort of payback for taking on the Rashad fight (with a messed up back) and then getting Boetsch as a "reward."

I saw something on BE
his twitter says “I cant take it anymore. Im freaking out. anxiety im shot. beaten.” Don’t know what that means.
"We fight, get beat, rise, and fight again."
This is a man that>
has gonefrom headlineing to Prelims, from KO’s to being KO’d. Its at that time that one begins to question themselves, their ability, and it becomes frightening to the point of anxiety. I can’t blame him, if his heart is no longer there how can any of us expect him to fight. We don’t want him to turn out like Karo; who has recently gone through 2 to 3 years of indecision and stagnation.
Baroni is out
hurt his collarbone. its on mmaweekly
bummer.
Worby will be very disappointed

NOOOO!!
silva was the lock of the year so far
damn it! my bet will be refunded now and i will waste that money on a fighter who will probably let me down
Please don't ever let Carwin fight Big Nog! It would result in death
Can't decide who I hate more, Penn or Edgar
dammit Karo
I hope that dude pulls it together. I was a fan.

thats cool man
I just liked him for his throws. His Judo was sick. If you guys are friendly, can you give us a mental health status update?

I saw an interview not too long ago where he said he's doing better
and remains on good terms with Dana and Co. He also called StrikeForce the most unprofessional organization he’s ever seen. Not a bad way to get on the good graces of the UFC if you ask me.

good terms?
Dana said he’d never fight for them again and bad mouthed him repeatedly. Karo may be on good terms in his head.
and I just saw it confirmed, Baroni is out, and I agree, his tweets are sometimes depressing.
Phil Baroni is pulling out of his UFC 118 bout with John Salter, due to a minor collarbone injury, according to his manager, Ken Pavia, who spoke to MMA Junkie.
I guess he just fought
who knew, definitely not this guy. He fought some no namer for Impact.

yeah I know they're not on good terms,
but they are in Karo land. I’m just sighting what he said.

Deuce that was a joke from the Ultimate Fighter
He went off on Nate Diaz and yelled outside of the UFC gym, Do you know who I am??!!?!?!
Right over my head
completely forgot about that. Nice reference.

I’m going to lean towards he’s prone to back problems.( trying to be positive) BUT If he is trying to play this game with the UFC, we all know who ends up winning that game.
I would hope its a game. Back problems are permanent.

give him that Brilz guy that shoulda beat lil nog
Fedor invented a language that incorporates Sambo and Kimuras.
So next time FEDOR is kicking your ass, don't be offended or hurt, he may be just trying to tell you he likes your hat.
He did beat Lil Nog. The judges just awarded the decision to Lil Nog.

I think Cane needs a win more than Brilz.
Brilz proved himself however Cane got toyed with by Lil Nog, he needs a convincing victory.
didn't Brilz beat Boetsch?
I have no idea why Thiago was even pitted against Boetsch. From the main event, to him? really?
Exactly. Good question.

I think Boetsch is a lot better than he gets credit for...
Always fought at short notice, lost a decision to Matyushenko (no shame in that), got beat by Hamill after doing very well in the first round, but yet again fighting on 6 weeks notice at altitude in Colorado (he looked gassed in the second). His last loss coming by way of decision to Brilz, who we’ve seen is a very serious prospect in his “win” over little Nog. I reckon Boetsch is going to surprise a lot of people if he gets a fair run now – a hard hitting wrestler with some inventive striking and a tough chin is a pain for anyone.
No point in taking 2 fights in a row injured.
Back injuries suck.
I'm always right, even when I'm wrong.
yeah even strains are horrible in the back
it just makes you feel like shit whenever you move.

Well the weird thing about me is that I grew up fighting and one of my friends introduced me to MMA and I was like, 'Whoa, you mean I can beat up white dudes and not go to jail?"

Current champ?? Uhhh. Machida lost to Rua(twice)
Outside of Evans and current champion Lyoto Machida, Silva is 5-0 inside the Octagon, with TKO wins over Keith Jardine, Houston Alexander and James Irvin.
