I wanna see him fight Alves.

Let’s see how easily he accepts defeat then.

Amen to that!

That’ll show him up for the B level striker he really is.

that be sick

I really enjoy Hardy and i think he learned alot of himself and his limits in that GSP fight. He knows he was soundly beat but, it appears he has just a lil more hunger then GSP. He was against the most dominant champion at his weight in awhile and hanged in without losing and took ALOT less damage then Fitch did in his attempt. If he can learn takedown defence and use his hands he coud steal a title someday sooner then later.

i say hardy would catch alves

alves is prob gonna get a ud out of fitch but hardy would tag his ass.after sheilds takes the belt from gsp it’s gonna be a good stacked 170 lbs division to get a shot at that title

I doubt it

Alves striking’s on another level, so’s his power. Hardy’s only stopped one opponent and that was a totally worn out Rory Markham. Alves would steam roll through him.

When working with model glue mikeybear32. Next thing you’ll be saying is that Brock is going to cut to 155 and take on BJ. See how silly that sounds?

i thought hardy would have no problem winning against condit if he kept it standing

But i recently found out dat condit competed in shootboxing(where you have to be decent striker to compete in) and he gave andy souwer (shoot and k1 legend) some trouble in his fight against him. So now i dont really know who is gonna win

too many peeps buyin the hardy hype

I like they guy and all but his biggest win is over swick…I think people are confusing his shot at gsp as skill…he is good, but hasn’t shown anything great yet( skill wise, anyway..his heart is impressive)…I want him to win vs condit..but I’d def pick carlos in a bet.

thats a bit strong

to have gsp on top of you for nearly 25 minutes and avoid being seriously hurt or subbed shows a good bottom game to me.he took less damage than both fitch, alves and penn.hardys a tough match up for anyone at ww.if condit cant take him down i see a ud for hardy.

that's very true. and a good point

Alves/Fitch/Penn were all worse for wear, then Hardy was. Hardy is a fairly big WW. And there is certainly no denying his heart.

i think that was in gsps game plan however. You can re-watch the countdown and when hes with Renzo Gracies hes being told “dont even think about striking, just make your transitions” i really really think gsp wanted nothing more than to sub hardy. At least thats my take on the fight.
His gameplan vs penn where he only imposed his gnp because he didnt wanna get into a grappling match with penn is an example of his different game plans.

Agreed 100%. GSP was looking for the sub only. If GnP was implemented Hardy would have been showing some bruises.

Yup

GSP never got out of second gear in that fight, he didn’t have to. He was just transitioning for fun and trying to show off some sub skills, never implemented the GnP at all.

mabye i should rewatch the hardy/gsp fight

He did look almost unscathed. I think I was attributing that to gsp not being as aggressive on the ground strike wise and maybe hardy deserves more credit for that…

yeah, i give Hardy an A+ in grit, determination, heart, and confidence

He isn’t the most technical. But when GSP said he was shocked he couldn’t get the tap (I know, it wasn’t as technical as it perhaps should have been) and verbally mentioned it to his corner during the fight, that told me something about Hardy’s willingness to sacrifice.

I’m very interested in this fight. I want to see more of both fighters, and this should gauge a lot for me.

Im with you on this one

Agreed that Hardy is a durable punching bag, but the hype is not justified. Although his hands are amongst the top 5 or 6 in the division the rest of his games is nowhere to be found.

by DeRbHeAn on Jul 27, 2010 11:07 AM EDT up reply actions

i agree with both opinions of him

His skill isnt anything thats shocking the world but, when u melt down these guys and pick apart all their abilities, a fighter is a fighter. Its in those minutes were all looks over and bleak and you emerge standing. Dan Hardy i see beating Condit and then we will see where Hardy is. A) A fighter whose trained for the worse to achieve the best or B)A Fighter who sees a lot more in being tough then improving. I think at UFC 121 we see a RNC over condit after condit folds like he almost did against Rory at UFC 115.

by ThePunisher on Jul 27, 2010 9:43 AM EDT reply actions

i think if it goes to the ground condit has the edge.
however hardy has supposedly been training his ass off with eddie bravo and the 10th planet crew. So he might have improved his game immensely.
but if the hardy that fought gsp shows up to fight the condit that we saw in the 3rd round of the macdonald fight i believe condit takes it

I Love Eddie. His BJJ is Great.

But its not always best for MMA. The rubber guard has hardly been effective outside of a few great BJJ guys, his bottom game is so complex and really is best for BJJ comp. He does have great sweeps/transitions but in MMA its not generally speaking the best form of BJJ.

by AintNoSunshine on Jul 27, 2010 1:28 PM EDT up reply actions

i beg to differ. I think its taken awhile but I think were going to see more and more of eddies stuff introduced to mma. Specifically set ups from the rubber guard. Sots with his crack head control was completely able to neutralize pelligrino, Condit had the meat hook on rory who also was neutralized in guard. There are definatley aspects of the 10th planet system that dont apply to mma but i believe Rubber guard is a more effective means of putting pressure on wrestlers who have begun to dominate the old style of jj that incorporates the over hook and just fighting for wrist control.
I dont know this is just based on my personal experience i just find that I take less punishment from the rubber guard and im able to be more active.

I cant wait for someone to knock this dude out!

I think I want it to happen more than I wanted it to happen to bisping when he fought hendo. You cant tough your way through being knocked out, and I think he really need it to improve not only his attitude but his over all game as well.

So many

There are so many ignorant comments on here!! Just because he only has 1 ko he’s not a good striker? He’s been working his striking g with freddie roach! He gets shown against gsp that he needs to improve his gg, so he hammers that for 6minths, and without any evidence on how he has improved u write him off!!

It’s pretty clear to me that many of u are the ignorant ufc boo boys…give the guy a chance to make his wrong rights before writing him off!! Hell think about Alves v fitch first time around…believe it or not these guys can and do get better by each fight.

The reality is hardy has looked good since being in the ufc and to hate him is simply because he is from the uk is childish and dumb, grow up and respect that he is a fighter who brings it and trains daily to improve! I for one like hardy and am certain he’s gony fin condit…mark my words!!! Then hate losers

"He's working his striking with Freddie Roach" - So what!

So did Tito Ortiz!

I think you’ve fallen for the Hardy hype machine and believe everything that comes out of his mouth. This guy’s been hyped like he’s some spectacular striker and talks like he is and with just one KO victory – he clearly isn’t. His striking’s nowhere near on a par with Alves or Daley, two genuine finishers at this weight, and lets not even start on his gg, the man was outwrestled by journeyman brawler Marcus Davis.

I’m from the UK by the way.

by attakdog on Jul 27, 2010 12:59 PM EDT reply actions

Typical

Totally typical of guys on here can’t see what I write instead see their own opinions!! By the way pacqiou also trains with freddie!! The point I was making is he is travelling to improve aspects of his game, striking, gg etc!!! To say he has poor stand up is silly he has looked fairly good standing and just because he has only fin one fight in the ufc doesn’t mean it’s poor!! Do u forget gsp wouldn’t stand with him? No not saying gsp wouldn’t beat him standing but he certainly felt that standing was hardys strength, so unless your more qualified than gsp then get a grip!! So what if he ko’s condit?? Is he still shit?!!! Look past just the record on paper it doesn’t always tell the story pal

by the real mo on Jul 27, 2010 1:29 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Forget paper, I've seen every one of his UFC fights pal

and I aint impressed with his striking, as I said nowhere near as good as Alves or Daley

By the way, where have I said Hardy has “poor” standup or Hardy’s “shit”???.

GSP wouldn’t stand with him coz nowadays he takes ZERO chances after the Serra fight. No point risking getting clipped if you have the best wrestling in the division, taking on a guy with some of the worst TD defence and GG in the division.

If he KO’s Condit, i might start to be a believer, but I really cant see it happening, can you???

by attakdog on Jul 27, 2010 1:41 PM EDT reply actions

Yes

I think he will ko him! You say his stand up isn’t great and u may be right he may well be behind thiago striking wise, but he hasn’t struggled striking with anyone as yet and messed up Davis striking not that it was outstanding?! I think he will fin condit tho

by the real mo on Jul 27, 2010 3:15 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

I think that's very wishful thinking

To my knowledge Condit’s never been KO’d and Hardy’s shown he doesn’t have dynamite in those hands, i see a KO being the least likely outcome here by a mile.

He hasn’t struggled with anyone standing because barring GSP he hasn’t fought anyone. His biggest win’s over Mike Swick. He managed to avoid the two best strikers in the biggest grapple orientated division, whilst avoiding the second and third best grapplers too.

I think this guy’s lucked out. I expect him to get by Condit by decision, but I dont know where he goes from there. He can practice his gg for the next 20 years, it’ll never be good enough to stop the steel blanket of Fitch, Kos or Shields and his standup isn’t good enough to take on Thiago Alves, and there’s no way he gets another title shot without beating one of those 4.

Great mentallity

Since the title fight, hes gaiend sooo much more respect and soo many more fans. i love how he refuses to tap bad ass
