Sho-gone: Mauricio Rua benched until 2011; no decision on 'Rampage vs Nogueira'

4830-shogun_hospital_medium

"Shogun's great, his knee's coming along great. It's all good. We don't have anything set up yet. With that division right now, Little Nog could fight Rampage, Rampage could fight Machida. There's a lot of fights we could make and we haven't made any decisions on (Nogueira vs. Rampage). We're looking at all of them. Time-wise, Rampage is still promoting the [A-Team] movie overseas, so we're trying to figure out what the next fight will be."

UFC President Dana White talks to reporters at yesterday's UFC 116: "Lesnar vs. Carwin" press conference (via MMA Fighting), confirming that light heavyweight champion Mauricio Rua is on the shelf for eight months to rehab a surgically repaired knee. White was also hesitant to confirm the company's plans to have "Minotoro" Nogueira throw hands with former division kingpin Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. There's a lot of wiggle room in the 205-pound division, any match-ups you want to see come to fruition by year's end?

  Rashad will have to wait…

cant see him staying inactive that long

but at least it will give shogun more of a chance.a fit shogun kills shad but this will be a horrible match-up coming back off knee rehab again.and personally i would cry if shogun lost to rashad of all people!

sucks how we have to see shogun come back again after another surgery

he was looking so good lately! hard not to think that this will effect him once again.

live simply.

How is it "all good"?

With another champ benched for a full goddamn year?
And why is rampage or lil nog talked about like they are contenders? Please…

Its machida, evans and jones who are at the top. Not those two.

by Lester The Pimp on Jul 2, 2010 10:09 AM EDT reply actions

haha..i thought the same thing

Benched till 2011, and “all good” don’t mesh well

not good. too many knee surgeries means a high likelihood of a shoretened career. I think Shogun will recover from this and put together one more good run before tearing up a knee for the final time

Lyoto Rashad II and Franklin v Rampage. If Shogun isn’t back soon enough, winners face off.

ya i would love

to see franklin vs page. that would be a pretty awesome battle

never have any regrets, because at the time, thats all you wanted to do

by child on Jul 2, 2010 11:09 AM EDT up reply actions

I would love to see Machida vs. Rampage

I am not entirely sure that is a great match up for Page though. Great contrast of styles, but Machida is so much faster that Rampage would have fits trying to connect.

by naturalshadow on Jul 2, 2010 11:39 AM EDT up reply actions

Switch Up The Match Ups

Rashad/Franklin vs Lil Nog/Machida for the Interim Title. Meanwhile Rampage/Bader/Jones/Thiago All mix it up as well.

by AintNoSunshine on Jul 2, 2010 1:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Like this

Idea alot better but what are the chances of this happening tho?

by Jamie The Peach Hunter on Jul 2, 2010 2:45 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Slim. IMO.

Rampage would probably replace Franklin in the mix but vs Machida/LilNog.

Jon Jones needs to be tossed in with the big dogs real soon

go from Hamill, to Vera to Matsosheenko (whatever) is brutal!

+1 Newf including Silva

Once Jones is done destroying the Janitor...

I’d like to see Ryan Bader take him on. Then Thiago take on the winner after he’s done destroying his next nobody opponent.

baders a step down imo

i like bader but jones has shown more at the moment for me.bader/davis anyone?

by scott1 on Jul 2, 2010 10:27 AM EDT up reply actions

I am not sold on Jones yet.

He has been impressive so far, but destroying Bonnar and Hamill does not mean he can take Lyoto and Shad. They are every bit as fast as Jones, and Shad probably has better wrestling. He may have luck against the slower Rampage, unless of course Rampage connects.

by naturalshadow on Jul 2, 2010 11:35 AM EDT up reply actions

Just Some FYI

Jones striking and wrestling is at the same point if not better then Rashads. Unfortunately, we will never know since they wont be fighting.

by AintNoSunshine on Jul 2, 2010 1:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Hope Shogun comes back strong. Last time he went through a knee surgury he got tooled by the like of Griffin and barely squeaked by Coleman. I’m really bummed, no one can touch a healthy and in shape Shogun.

by Chainlink on Jul 2, 2010 10:24 AM EDT reply actions

Dammit! Wait a full 8 months to a year for his return is going to suck! Shogu nis one of the msot exciting fighters around and the layoffs for him have been to long. From Chuck to Machida was 7 months. From Machida 1st fight to the rematch was another 7 months, and now this. Hoep he gets better ,, but it jsut sucks to not be able to see the #1 LHW in the world fight. ONE THING DANA: PLEASE NO INTERIM TITLE!!!!

Shogun will have the longest championship reing in the UFC

by manalito on Jul 2, 2010 10:46 AM EDT reply actions

Was the knew problem an injury that he aquired during training? OR is it the smae kneee that he had worked on previously? I judt woudl have never guessed in the short fight with Machdida that he got hurt…

fuck interim belts

by Two_Words on Jul 2, 2010 11:35 AM EDT up reply actions

Thats what I was thinking

You know they’re going to do it.

Shogun lost a close decision! Everyone get crazy!

by ShaiZ on Jul 2, 2010 12:42 PM EDT up reply actions

why is jones never talked about as a contender??

And why is rampage ?? :S

Bones Jones should be thrown in with real comp.already. With some top contenders. I think he desseves it.im not much of a shogun fan so i dont really care he’s out. But! It sucks ass that the belt is going to be put on hold for such a long time :(

by LJchamp on Jul 2, 2010 11:07 AM EDT via mobile reply actions

I would like to see...

Thiago Silva vs. Bones, Forrest, or Rampage.

Lil’ Nog vs. Rampage, Bones, or Thiago Silva.

Anderson vs. any top ten 205er

Rashad bores me so I don’t care who he fights as long as he gets beat and send down the ladder.

by NateDogg77 on Jul 2, 2010 11:26 AM EDT reply actions

In the meantime....

Rampage vs Machida
Jon Jones vs Tito Ortiz
Thiago Silva vs Forrest Griffin
Rashad Evans vs Lil Nog

Shogun will have the longest championship reing in the UFC

by manalito on Jul 2, 2010 11:35 AM EDT reply actions

man, im always forgettign Rich Franklin. At tiems i forget what division hes at. hes been jumping aroudn so much lately. Id give him

Rich Franklin vs winner of Nog and Rampage

Shogun will have the longest championship reing in the UFC

by manalito on Jul 2, 2010 11:37 AM EDT up reply actions

i'd rather

Jones vs griffin than ortiz. It’d be more of a step into the top level.

Sucks about Rua. Lookin forward to his return. I’d like his return fight to be Jackson or thiago.

Never thought about this, can a champ have a comeback fight where the title isn’t on the line?

by kevan321 on Jul 2, 2010 12:03 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

I was praying to the Gods the I would get to see Shogun destroy Evans in Indy at 119…dammit!!!!!!!!!

I like bacon...and Rashad Evans is a pussy

by Big-dawg on Jul 2, 2010 11:52 AM EDT reply actions

I feel for Shogun. This is terrible for him.

He was on such a roll (even though I’m a Machida fan). I wanted him to beat down more people. I just hope everything goes well for him.

Now who can we get to beat on Rampage and Rashad in the meantime?

by Swedish Chef smerdy herdy verdy on Jul 2, 2010 11:59 AM EDT reply actions

lil nog for rashad

machida for rampage

junior dos santos = ufc heavyweight champ 2011. count on it

by jsteele on Jul 2, 2010 12:55 PM EDT reply actions

rampage?

Why is everyone talking about rampage. Didnt he lose to rashad? Since when does losing a fight get your more fights?
