Impact FC weigh in results from Sydney

Filho-sydney_medium

Impact FC is back for the second time this month with part two of their mixed martial arts debut "Down Under" featuring a collection of former UFC and PRIDE veterans set to throw hands on July 18 at the Sydney Entertainment Centre in Sydney, Australia.

All fighters set to compete on this weekend's "Uprising 2" card made their respective weights, and far as shenanigans go, Paulo Filho did not disappoint.

As Jordan Breen reports from Sydney, the maligned middleweight enigma, looking "gaunt and sucked out," missed weight on his first attempt -- which didn't come until 20 minutes after the last fighter weighed in.

After an hour long trip back to the sauna, a depleted "Ely" returned to the scale in his birthday suit. He clocked in at 186, but there's no telling what his condition may be for tomorrow's contest against Denis Kang.

Complete Impact FC: "The Uprising 2" weigh in results (courtesy of Sherdog.com) after the jump.

BJ is going to be back in Cali training and Marv is back! Bad news for Frankie. I will be betting the house.

by BJPennfan on Jul 17, 2010 11:27 AM EDT reply actions

Unlike Randy Couture's,

Chuck’s style is not suited for a long career. It should have ended years ago but Couture who is six years older can still go a couple more. The era of careless brawlers is over. If BJ doesn’t incorporate takedowns in his game, I fear he might meet the same fate.

Remember when I asked if BJ could and would take Edgar down before their first fight?

That was your answer back then:

BJ doesnt need to take him down
But if he wants to he will.

Would you answer the same today?

yes,

BJ is a much better boxer and he did win the first 3 rounds comfortably in my book last time around. Chuck Liddell was a brawler, BJ is far from it.

Come at me bro!

Different fighters no doubt.

It’s my personal belief that Penn’s BJJ skills outweighs Frankie’s ground game a lot more than Penn’s boxing skills outweighs Frankie’s boxing. in fact, I wouldn’t grade Edgar’s boxing skills much lower than Penn’s. Edgar has better footwork hence the difficulty to connect and take down.

Don’t write Edgar off again in this upcoming rematch I would advise. I’ll say the exact same thing I said prior to their first fight, BJ needs to catch him and use advantage of superior BJJ and size and forget about the prideful desire to prove he is a better boxer by trying to KO Edgar. Knock out artists as we see with Chuck and so many others, just can’t last past their prime and Penn is certainly approaching that line considering his long history of poor conditioning.

If he’s smart, he will do to Edgar exactly what GSP did to him. Attack the weakest part of the enemy line, win the fight and let haters hate.

Edgar is ready for BJ’s boxing any day of the week.

Does Paulo not have any family that can help him out? For christ sake the guy has been messed for years now, does he not have anyone that actually cares about him enough to get him the help he needs and stop him from taking fights he has no business being in.

Great card

That card looks insanely good. Who says only the UFC has good fights? Shamrock, Rizzo, Bustamente, Filho and Ninja all on the same card? It’s almost like being back in PRIDE.

Jeremy May
Murilo Bustamante
Jesse Taylor

thrown in with

Dan Henderson
Mayhem Miller
Nick Diaz
Jacare Souza
Cung Le
Robbie Lawler
and Tim Kennedy.

plus 3 more and youve got a 16 man bracket.

Soa was originally fighting Bob Sapp

It was probably going to be at superheavyweight.

Anderson Silva will fall via brutal Republican dry-humping.

Former good names; not an impressive card though. If Rizzo losses that’s the end. Go Ninja.
