Evans-shoots-rampage_medium_medium

The UFC 114 pay-per-view took in a gate of $3,895,125 on May 29 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, according to official figures from the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) released today.

The final attendance of 14,996 was a result of 13,294 tickets sold and 1,702 comped tickets.

A mere 14 tickets remained unsold.

The UFC dished out $1.371 million in fighter salaries for the live event and another $260,000 in additional bonus money for the four participants who delivered outstanding performances.

"Rampage vs. Evans" featured a close but still clear-cut unanimous decision win for "Sugar" Rashad Evans, who overcame the power of Quinton "Rampage" Jackson with an effective combination of wrestling and defense.

205-pound stalwart Antonio Rogerio Nogueira inched his way closer to a future title shot with a controversial split decision win over the ultra tough Jason Brilz.

Actually it was a great event if you don't count the Bisping and Rashad fights...

Pretty much all the other fights were great times!

anyone see the Cyrille vs. Banha fight?

anyone got a link?

How did Cryille win? TKO via kicks, punches. knees or elbows?

Banha is slipping!

by John G. on Jun 7, 2010 7:15 PM EDT up reply actions

It was on the prelims

They both droped each other. 1st banha droped’em w/ a strait left but cudnt finish. Cyrille droped’em with the same punch but finished him on the ground. Sick fight.

by d*locc on Jun 7, 2010 9:45 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

cyrille made me money, knew he'd win.

He knocked Banha down with 2 clean punches followed him to the ground and Herb stepped in. “The Snake” is a tall motherfucker, he won the fight on his reach cause his defense was shit.

HAHAHA john g...what happened to your boy?

Where was Page’s superior wrestling and striking? I thought there was absolutely no way Shad could possibly beat Page. Go ahead lay out all your excuses why an in-prime Page would destroy and in-prime Shad yada yada yada. Fact of the matter is…Shad may not have made it look too pretty but I loved it…it was a perfect gameplan and a solid win. Give Shad the props you said you would if he won.

There were a couple bad fight but I was happy I went. I spent 500 on a ticket and I’m not bitchin. I enjoyed it. To be fair it was my first time at a major mma event though

by LOKIE on Jun 7, 2010 10:52 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

yeah, but I dont get any of that money and they did so all the more reason why they could afford to have it on spike.

So I used the ppv $ and got a quarter of purple kush and watched them that same night on the internet. And honestly, I do think they want one more.

Homer: Gee, Mr. Burns, you’re the richest guy I know; way richer than Lenny.
Mr. Burns: Yes, but I’d trade it all for a little more.

its pretty evident why certain ppl dislike the card

Clearly wanted Page to win/Bisping to lose/Diego to win, or all 3.

I however was not blinded by any sort of nuthuggery or hatred and picked 3 for 3 in that dept. Also saw a fight ended due to knee to the solarplex, rare and exciting to me. Luiz faltered and now arises a very well built fighter for the division. And we also saw how over hyped some young punk was, and the resilience of one Jason Brilz.

Was an excellent card. And ask Kevin, apparently I hate the UFC so, it must have been spectacular. ;)

precisely. i picked him to win but...

…to be fair I picked him due to the appearance of his opponent, and also I picked him to win in less then impressive fashion. I wouldn’t have picked him over any good HW.

Taking in that much money they should be paying every fighter at least . . . one million dollars (pinky finger to lower lip).

Free market

As long as fighters in the UFC continue to fight for chump change, Dana will have ZERO incentive to pay them more money. Do I think Dana is a cheap douchebag? Yes, i do. Is he doing pretty much the exact same thing that any savy buisnessman does in a free market: pay your employees as little money as possible to barely keep them around? Affirmative.

Anybody can talk

But what facts do you have
The UFC paid 1.6 million in salary & bonus with a gate of 3.7 =2.1
-Does what is sent to the media all the salaries? No and it states that when they show the payday the day after the fight
-How many other employees from stage set up to announcer, to medical staff, commession, security, video personal, cage girls, equipment cost, moving..etc?
-What does advertising cost?
-What are all the legal fee cost
- What % of PPV sales does the UFC get?
- What does the UFC get in advertisement?
- Does the UFC pay fighters a training salary?
- Does the UFC help the fighters gain sponsorship?
- Does anybody know really how much the UFC is making?
I’m sure they make a pretty Penny, but I don’t know if it’s near as much as some of you think but then again I have no idea becasue I don’t know all the facts.

yeah but that doesnt even count the ppv buys and sponsors

so let’s just say they did 900,000 buys at 45 bucks apiece, cable company takes 5 bucks off that so UFC makes $40 × 900,000, that’s 36 million on top of the 2 million they cleared at the gate. now tell me they are not making enough money. $3000 for a first time fighter in the UFC? come on now. that’s fucking robbery of the highest caliber… UFC is reaching Enron levels with this scam.

and it is sad but true, they have a virtual monopoly (which should be illegal, strikeforce doesn’t count as true competition IMO) so they can tell the fighters to fuck themselves.

shitty shitty shitty

by truckerclock on Jun 8, 2010 12:36 AM EDT up reply actions

it could be worse, american idol takes 50% of it’s winners liftetime earnings..

and someone posted on here the other day rampage and rashad have contracts where they get a ppv cut, also the ufc pays all medical bills for each guy as long as its an injury related to the octagon..

also point out, if you’re in this sport for the money you won’t last long

by randy murders on Jun 8, 2010 1:27 AM EDT up reply actions

shhh truckerdock

Saying the truth around here doesn’t go over well. You weren’t supposed to bring up all that obvious stuff when Puck was trying to make it sound like they don’t make a ridiculous amount of money. Trust me you’ll just get slammed by guys who will tell you you’re wrong, no matter how many relevant points you suggest.

by daniel worby on Jun 8, 2010 8:50 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

The cable companies don’t take $5 off the top, they get half, which is $25-30 depending on provider and HD/regular, etc.

Our lives change like the weather, but a legend never dies.

by P-Dub on Jun 8, 2010 10:17 AM EDT up reply actions

even if that math is correct

that’s still 23 million dollars plus the two million plus sponsor money… hmmmm do that twelve times a year, sometimes more, then tell me how broke you are.

these guys are pocketing multiple hundreds of millions of dollars and a fighter can maybe make 20 grand in his first year of fighting if he fights three times and doesnt get fight of the night bonuses… sure that sounds fair lol

The live event was awesome! thebuzz in the arena was great. Even though the main event didnt have excitement screaming all over it when it was all said and done, the event wasstill solid.

This one would be awesome to go to coming up, but too soon for my finances/work. I know we’re up to UFC 119 at least before she’s returning there for a PPV card so, seems to be a while.

Boxing vs MMA

Just a side note because I love this debate, the Cotto/Foreman fight at Yankees Stadium sold a little over 20,000 tickets. Not sure about ppv. I know Cotto got $2 mil and Foreman got like $750,000 purse.
