Brock Lesnar feels Fedor Emelianenko's pain

Fedor-lesnar2_medium

Props: "The Jim Rome Show" (via 5thRound.com)

Quoteworthy:

"It was disappointing. I hate to see a guy like that. Whether his legacy was more of a mystique than it was, he stood up and he was respectful and it was tough to see. It reminded me of my first fight against Frank [Mir] when I got really anxious and fell right into the trap. That’s a tough pill to swallow. That’s a big pill to swallow and I definitely do not want to try to swallow that pill again. I feel bad for him. I don’t think any less of him. We’re human beings and we all make mistakes and it’s whether or not we can get up and better ourselves. That’s what true champions are made of, I believe."

While all kinds of remarks have been made on Fedor Emelianenko's shocking loss to Fabricio Werdum this past Saturday in San Jose, Calif., one in particular surprised everybody today. UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar stated he feels bad for the outcome, having endured a similar submission misfortune early in his career  at the hands of his bitter rival, Frank Mir. Are there any real similarities here? Lesnar's body of work pales in comparison to Emelianenko's. And their losses were at markedly different points in time. Si or no?

Lesnar is starting to soften up a little bit… First giving Randy props and now Fedor. I think after he got sick it really opened his eyes. But Lesnar for the win this Sat!!!

Wow!

Kinda surprised that Brock gave him props like that.

I think Lesnar wins this weekend too, but it certainly isn’t a lock.

I hated Lesanr's behavior after beating Mir but...

I could forgive him if he’s consistently a more respectful person

He has always been that way

Mir just pissed he off…When Randy fought Nog, Brock was right there cheering him on cageside…Carwin keeps bringing up the past about how Brock disrespected everybody, but Carwin is disrespecting Brock who already apologized for his actions…Carwin seems to be a bit phony and pompous, the way he tells people how hard he trains still working a job and this is for the fans….its not the fans its what he does for money, would fighters fight for free? Then shut up and stop pretending its so, anyway great fight, dont know who wins…..

Some fans just want to see the bad in Brock the fact is he's always been this way

He might of brought his WWE character to MMA a few times but really he’s just human and when he says he respects no one in the octagon thats what he means in the octagon he will thrash anyone but in reality he respects them as humans and fighters as long as they are not facing him.

UFC Champ is more professional and respectful than the President

Kind of sad.

I’m starting to like Brock more and more since his sickness. He’s more down to earth.

On the subject, glad to see Lesnar is not UFC’s b**ch and has his own opinions.

Probably an eye opener

I think that Brock is a much more respectful guy than he's given credit for.

He hasn’t seemed to talk trash about guys that didn’t previously disrespect him. He also speaks very highly of the pioneers and legends of the sport. He’s great at playing the heel and developing interest in his fights and I think that gets attributed much more to his actual personality than it probably should.

I can’t help but like Brock no matter what he does, but some of the things he’s done post-fight, whether his opponents disrespected him or not, were still disrespectful and indicative of being an ungratious winner. As a viewer it’s pretty entertaining—I can’t help but smile—when I see him riding Herring’s back while Herring’s hunched over in defeat, or when he’s pointing right at Herring’s face, laughing at him, as if to say, “I kicked your ass, loser.” Those are cheap shots, the sign of a typical jerk. And that’s not an act.

But as I said, I like the guy.

He is the typical HS Bully that found a legal outlet for all of his Neanderthal Rage...

While I am not a huge fan of Brock, he has grown on me a bit as well. I also think the more he is around professional MMA athletes, the more humble he will become. It has to be hard to lose the TV personality that you have had for the last 10 years. He was an entertainer for the better part of a decade and I think he gets lost in that at times, when his adrenalin is pumping, the cameras are rolling, and the fans are screaming.

The only people he’s been “disrespectful” toward are the people (Herring and Mir) who dogged him for months leading up to the fights. Now Carwin’s had a full year to spew his sanctimonious, self-righteous, holier-than-thou, white knight savior of all that is good and pure in MMA bullshit. I assure you his uppance will come immediately after the fight and again in the post-fight presser.

I unfortunately disagree

I’m a big Lesnar fan being a home grown Midwest wrestler myself. After he GnP’s Carwin he will declare that he is the best HW fighter in the world and will be hated even more! Fedor losing just adds to it. Lesnar is going to steamroll Carwin to the canvas and destroy him. I hoped for this after Carwin had the nerve to compare his Div 2 wrestling pedigree to Lesnars Div 1. Not even on the same planet. Shane"Howdy"Carwin is a big one punch praymaster. Tough as hell no doubt, but not in the same league!

There are many athletes in many sports in D-II and below that can compete with D-I athletes.

A guy I train MMA with won the NAIA National Championship(which is WAYYYYYY smaller than D-II) and he tooled the D-I national champion same year. People go to various schools for various reasons, and just because someone is in a higher division does NOT mean they are automatically better.

There are exceptions to every rule...

DI schools historically are better for one reason and one reason only, they generally get the cream of the crop.

Well, they both got caught in a submission needlessly I suppose, but the similarity ends there IMO. Fedor disregarded Werdum’s JJ credentials and just waded into his guard anyway after being lured to the ground, while Brock was arguably about to win his fight before the Mazz stand-up, and got caught in a rookie mistake.
