Don't expect Chris Leben to be starstruck from the sex appeal of Yoshihiro Akiyama when the two middleweights clash at UFC 116 this Saturday night (July 3) in Las Vegas. "The Crippler" agreed to take on the former DREAM and K-1 star after Akiyama's original opponent, Wanderlei Silva, blew out a rib heading into the fourth of July weekend pay-per-view. Leben is fresh off a technical knockout victory over Aaron Simpson at the Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 11 Finale earlier this month, an opponent he feels was faster and more powerful than "Sexyama." Is the former TUF bad boy in for a rude awakening on fight night?

akiyama has sat on the shelf for a long time. Leben is going to come in, in good shape, and i think he’ll have a slugfest until one of his lefts land and it’ll be over.

JDS, Velasquez or Overeem and i'll be impressed. Just one of them. College Football is still the best sport out there.

You guys make out he’s Fedor or something. This guy is overrated to begin with. The only reason he got a shot at Wanderlei was because of his fame in Japan, and as David-WS said, it would be a great PR fight to secure a tighter Japanese fanbase. He’s overrated.

Anyway, really, he could very well beat Leben. But even if he does, he’s still overrated. Just because he’s super famous in Japan doesn’t make him a better fighter. He’s a good fighter, but so are a lot of guys currently in the UFC who aren’t talked about like they’re legends. It’s nonsense. Overrated doesn’t mean “shit,” it means exactly what it means—he’s rated way higher than he should he be.

didn’t know about the singing/acting. just have read about him here, on Wiki, and saw his fight with Alan Belcher. been following mma for a few years, lurking on here for a few weeks and decided to join in the commenting. i didn’t mean to knock him, just that in that picture he literally looks like David Beckam, just asian-ized.
I’m picking Leben though, Akiyama’s record doesn’t look very impressive outside of Manhoef and Kang, and even then, Kang’s been weird lately and Manhoef has no ground game.

they both can. Akiyama did walk through that sweet off-the-cage superman punch from Belcher. barring a submission, it could be a fun war. i think the x-factor is whether or not Leben can avoid the TD and subs. If he can make it a brawl, i think he has better odds of finishing it.
plus, i think there will be funnier reactions on here if Akiyama loses then Leben

to say that Akiyama is slow…That is what sexy has going for him…Not to say that i dont love Leben cause i think i am one of the few on this site that does. I want to see Leben knock this asshole back to Japan…Thats for sure. I actually think that Leben is a better version of Wandy at this stage in both of their careers…I am ready for the fallout from that statement but think about it….
