Wonder if Fedor gets anythin else under the table. If thats all he gets, then UFC can pay him way more. But then again, Fedor doesn’t seem to worry to much about how much coin he gets. If Ramapge gets around 1 million with salary and PPV ends, then Fedor would be banking big times in the UFC.
Shogun will have the longest championship reing in the UFC
fedor definetly gets more than 400K
dont forget about the whole M-1 (which fedor owns 20% of) co-promotion deal. you can make a pretty good buck as a top-tier fighter but fight promotion is where the real money is
wow these guys dont make very much
Scott Coker: "With loss to Werdum, Fedor is ready for title shot."
really?
Cung Le at $100K? Scott Smith at $55K!!!
These guys are journeymen in the UFC MW division, at best, and would be making maybe 24 show 24 win. Strikeforce will not last long paying these salaries. I garantee they lost money on this event after paying the advertising, site fee, insurance, etc.

you’re confused. pay is related to the fighters draw. cung le fights out of that town, is a good draw, and has exciting fights
I'm not confused, you are. Fedor doesn't draw and he got $400k.
$788,800 for those fights is going to bankrupt SF very quickly.
And Cung Le only has exciting fights when fighting journeymen fighters who have no business fighting for titles, ie Scott Smith and Frank Shamrock (after becoming old and slow). $100k is too much for him.

they do ok. but if u lose all you get is 3,000. ouch

fedor $400k while M-1 get over $1 mil of tax free money... sneaky russian glad he got whooped!

anyone living outside the U.S. don't get their money taxed
that includes Fedor. and M-1 made close to 1.5
i think thats incorrect
im almost positive they still need to pay federal income tax because the money was earned in this country. and on top of that they need to pay income tax in russia. i read a big article about it after last years world series of poker cause of all the foreigners who made the final table. pretty interesting stuff. that’s why alot of athletes live in florida, no state income tax so they just get hit once.
You are right about Taxes...
Fedor gets taxed and any business that does business gets taxed or suppose to get taxed whether they do or not. Nothing surprises me about the US anymore. Our Country bleeds money like it is a never ending stream. They are suppose to but may not.

wrong.
Income earned on US soil is taxed at normal US rates. Taxes are my world.

He gets taxed in Russia
I thought you were in Canada Ulf? My homie’s mom retired from the IRS and he told me this. I’m not saying ur wrong, just saying what Ive been told. It doesn’t make sense to me that they (foreigners) wouldn’t get taxed, but it also wouldn’t be too fair for the U.S. to tax him and then Russia to also tax him. The conversation came up when I found out 75% of Fedor’s pay goes to M-1, I thought it was to avoid taxes, thats when I was told that foreign fighters don’t pay income tax like I do.
then you would know the money USA taxes Canadians
Comes right back to us when we cross the border. Same thing applies to TV Gameshow winners. For example if you win a mill on who wants to be a millionaire you walk away with what 600k? We walk with that as well, then are reimbursed at the border. That’s your world though, so you must have known that already.

Sounds like a good deal to me.
So the US taxed Fedor but Russia gives him the money back. Gotta love that.
by Brian Massey on Jun 28, 2010 6:31 PM EDT up reply actions
I didn't know that Worbs
I know if we win on a game show we are taxed on the money/prizes, I didn’t know that the country you live in reimburses that money nor do I know thats how it works. thanks for the info, good stuff!
yes on gameshow earnings
We get 100%. Canada gov’t reimburses us. Same with lottery’s here. We don’t pay tax on that stuff. As for fighter salaries, they are taxed by the USA then reimbursed in Canada, but we still pay our tax, which just happens to be lower I believe then yours (but I don’t know that part as a fact, just word of mouth).
But you certainly wouldn’t pay USA and Canada tax, or there is no logical reason for GSP etc to fight out of Canada. That would leave you with what, 25% of your pay? Lol

thats why I said it wouldn't be fair to pay our taxes and then again in Russia (to Ulf)
good stuff Worbs, you actually sound like you know what you’re talking about compared to guessing.
Never looked at it as a foreigner, so I may be wrong (and obviously american-centric for my above arrogant reply, but I was on my cell when replying which I am not very good at)
As a US citizen, which I am (and all of the clients I work for are), we get a tax credit for taxes paid in foreign countries on our annual filing, but the taxes remain with said foreign country, they do not get returned to the US and we most certainly do not get the taxes refunded at the border upon returning to the US. There is also an annual exclusion for income earned in a foreign country.
Apologies for arrogance, but I was making a quick reply on my cell.

and the way Canadians are treated are different than Russians, French, etc.
Each country has a different tax treaty that governs how taxes are treated between countries.

what kind of taxes do fighters have to pay in general in the us?
Am I right in thinking that because it’s prize money, about 50% goes to taxes?
prize money is a relative term
this is their salary. also they are independent contractors, they can write everything off!
florida doesnt have a state tax...neither does delaware...so i guess the taxes are different if they fight in those states
the brockness monster grinds up teenagers and puts them in his protein shakes..and uses razor blades to chop toddlers up into lines to snort like meth...the reason no one can find bigfoot is because the brockness monster found him years ago and now has him in numerous ziplock bags in the back of his freezer...
by HellaHectic on Jun 28, 2010 11:01 PM EDT up reply actions
Both of those states have state taxes
that’s ludicrous. I just know delaware doesn’t have sales tax…not sure about what tax Florida doesn’t have
by Body Triangle on Jun 29, 2010 10:24 AM EDT up reply actions
what do you mean FL does?
I lived there for 5 years and went to college there before that, ther is no state tax. Texas doesn’t either, thats why pro athletes pick those states in free agency. You get federal tax withheld from your paycheck, but THERE IS NO state tax!
Dude
You mean no state income tax then, which upon some research, Florida does not have. All states have taxes, period. And i don’t know what hellahectic was saying about delaware- i think he was confused, as it does not have sales tax. It does, however, have income tax.
But interesting- didn’t know that!
by Body Triangle on Jun 29, 2010 1:54 PM EDT up reply actions
there was article regarding that loop around paying taxes. Fighters who are with M-1 get paid a certain amount of money i.e. mussasi $2k for his fight against babalu I think and the rest M-1 gets it and they don’t get taxed. Do you really think mussasi got paid $2K to become the champ? Fedor’s pay is well over $1.5 mil, can’t remember where I saw it. If it was here or at WKR. check the archive. sneaky!

What is funny is Fedor started fighting MMA and Sambo competitions ...
Wiki said that Fedor started fighting at 24 years old because he was broke and needed some money. Ten years later he is sitting on a gold mine. What a life he built for himself and his family. That is one success story that should be on the news showing how people can make it in the hardest of professions when left alone. All the news today is about War, economy, oil spill, and every G20 protester they can find. We need one news channel that tried to report good news or as much as it happens. I believe as much or more than bad news but we know what bleeds leads. Better get off my soapbox. I love Fedors story and I bet against him last fight because no man can win forever.
by Brian Massey on Jun 28, 2010 6:38 PM EDT up reply actions
Thats crazy..
That is what is wrong with SF. Thats absolute ludacris, to pay someone who A. lost B. has not fought in so long to hold creditabilty on a giant fight earnings like what he got. Not to mention the average they paid most every other fighter on the card was like $4500!
Nothing wrong with it at all
Does the other fighters have 30 wins and no losses. Who do all the real fighters say is still the best in the World. Dont you hate it when Real UFC and MMA fighters still say Fedor is number one. One fighter said you cannot look at one or two fights. You need to look at the entire package. Forgot who said it but it is on a video floating around here.

then maybe those fighters should not have accepted the fight contracts.
Simple really.

might wanna start rethinking this career choice.
Fedor made out very well considering that’s only a part of what he actually makes. Werdum is a good fighter but him and Cung are making WAY too much money. A case could be made for Josh Thompson too. I’d love to see what the Gate pulled in to compare to what they actually paid out.
On being champion - "The best thing that’s come out of me being champ is I got a chance to meet Beyonce, so I’m happy about that. That was my lucky day, 7/7/07." - Quinton "Rampage" Jackson

add to their costs the venue and employees and they probably didnt make much as a profit.
That is an average of 90.00 per ticket
1066739 / 11757
90.73 average ticket price.

im sorry but
I can not support a team whos owners could care less if they win or lose. Yet the people in southeast michigan continue to fill ford field for the most part.
everyone in southeast michigan should boycott the sorry ass lions who have set records for consistantly being the worst team in the leage. I wouldnt mind seeing the lions go else where or at least get them off of television on thanks giving day nowbody wants to see the lions play. let another team play who is competitive and who have owners who are willing to pay the cash to get quality players (perfect example we could have picked up vick when he was available I garentee u once he is given a chance to start again he will win a superbowl in less than 4 years).
The fords could care less about the lions and every decision they make reflects that.
heres to hoping the lions relocate somwhere else or get bought by another owner.
but your right we are fellow wings fans, hell I support all detroit teams except ……you got it
lmfao @ filling ford feild
thats why pretty much every lions game is blacked out right? o and also LMFAO @ vick winning the superbowl, Stafford is way better then vick (he sucks at throwing the ball and isnt the runner he used to be) . Also the lions owner made the frikken best desicion ever when he fired millen and the lions have gotten 100x better since millen ran the team. Mr ford is a loyal guy thats the only reason they have sucked

i hope fedor gets a chance to even the score with werdum and then finally come to the UFC
I dont him to fight overeem, it be even better if werdum subs overeem and then fedor demolishes werdum that would put him back right where he was before the loss
Your right. Overeem has no draw power because of his losses and attitude
Since Overeem moved to HW he has a good record but before that not so good. I dont know many who like his attitude or something seems fake about him. Might just be his mannerisms so I wont judge to harshly. I like what you said. Werdum beat Overeem again and then Fedor rematches Werdum.

Mannerisms
He does look like he has an eternal case of constipation, doesn’t he? :-D
that is a fucking INSULT to pay someone 6000 for a championship fight...i dont care if its women fighting or dogfighting or cockfighiting
that bitch got thrown to the wolves and the fight played out exactly how everyone thought it would…and not only that, it also helped build up the cyborg brand as being the “baddest woman on the planet”…..
the highlight reel she put together for them is worth paying hinney more money….it was a fucking TITLE FIGHT….and it isnt like shes one of those fighters who has a shitload of sponsers who are paying all of her expenses so she can live comfortably…shes basically an unknown fighter who came in with an 8-7 record…
no one should ever be getting paid 6000 for a title fight under any circumstance…
the brockness monster grinds up teenagers and puts them in his protein shakes..and uses razor blades to chop toddlers up into lines to snort like meth...the reason no one can find bigfoot is because the brockness monster found him years ago and now has him in numerous ziplock bags in the back of his freezer...
Maybe She Shouldnt Have Signed The Contract Then?
I doubt a woman with a 8-7 record can complain. She is lucky to be given the opportunity.

ok, well at least pay your champion more than 35 k for a championship fight...especially when you're using her to help sell the fight
they sure as hell didnt have josh thompson on the poster using HIM to sell the card…and he made nearly TWICE as much as cyborg??? yea josh may be a good fighter…he wasnt a main event, a co main event…not even the 3rd fight…he was the 4th fight…hes not a champion…
cyborg is a brand…shes the baddest female fighter on the planet…hes just…another good dude…
i never even knew thompson was on the fucking card till the weigh in…but i sure as FUCK knew cyborg was fighting…
the card was billed as “the greatest male and female fighters in the world on the same card”
but payin her 35 and thompson 60 is fucking retarded….she is a brand he is not

Unfortunately Men Will be Paid More Then Woman
Unless Your Gina Carano. You are right Cyborg and Finney should be paid more then Josh and Pat but thats just not the way it works. Thompson at one time was one of the top 10 LW’s and I am sure this contract reflected that and was paid accordingly and Cyborgs was also before she beat Carano. Cyborg is considered the best woman fighter right now and since SF is the best org promoting woman she doesnt hold alot of leverage in those terms. Politics…. its all politics.

paying josh that much is retarded...yea he used to be a top guy but he isnt a 60k guy now..i mean have a sf expo put cyborg on one side and josh on the other side and see which line is the longest to meet which fighter
then see who is worth more to the company…she should hold out for more money the next time she fights..and at least be paid what a champion is worth..
and WHO THE FUCK is cung le coming off a loss to get paid the same amount of money as the GUY WHO BEAT FEDOR? who the fuck is he? hes had a half a dozen fights…and is coming off a fight…and gets 100 fucking grand? for beating a human punching bag?
WHO THE FUCK IS HE to get paid 3 times more than a champion??
