Fedor: 'Everybody loses. I’m just a human being'

11_fedor_vs_werdum_p1y1350_medium

Props: Strikeforce.com

Quoteworthy:

"The one who doesn’t fall never stands up, It happened that people made me an idol. But everybody loses. I’m just a human being. And if it’s God’s will next fight, I’ll win.... At the very beginning of the round, I hit him and I wanted to finish as soon as possible, at that moment, I made a mistake. I would like to have a rematch with Fabricio if he was to agree. I’d love to do that.... There were several moments when I could escape, but I relied on myself too much and that’s why I paid for it. At the very moment when I had to escape, I stopped, and that moment was used for Fabricio to lock it on. I’m really very sorry and it’s a pity that I disappointed people who believe in me and trusted in me, but everything in this life happens for some reason. If God decided this is what should happen, then it’s the best thing for this very time."

It doesn't happen often, but when it does, Fedor Emelianenko is gracious in defeat. "The Last Emperor" was dethroned last night with a tight Fabricio Werdum triangle choke, demonstrating once and for all that the Russian cyborg is indeed mortal. Werdum -- who was cut from the UFC after going 2-2 against decent competition -- somehow managed to defeat the greatest heavyweight of all time. Perhaps the confidence that comes along with ruling his peers for so long finally caught up with Emelianenko -- he admitted that he did feel like he could escape at one point, but continued to press the action. So where does Fedor go from here? With just one fight left on his current deal with Strikeforce, it would appear that he'd have to take on Alistair Overeem or rematch Werdum. However, Overeem and Werdum will likely collide first. Does Fedor get the winner (or loser) or does the promotion go in a different direction and match him up with someone else? Let's hear your opinions, Maniacs.

None of the above

Go to the UFC or go home. There is nothing he can do in Strikeforce to regain his status as P4P king

I think

Fedor started to believe his own hype. He thought no jiu jitsu guy could ever beat him.
Haha

Rematch

We all want to see him get rematch win and then come to UFC. Thats only way he gains my respect as P4P king.

I think the only fight thats worth anything for him right now is a rematch with Werdum.

This way if he does want to retire he can do it after avenging another loss.

But if i was in werdum’s shoes i wouldnt be looking at another fedor fight, he beat him with no controversy, id be looking at fighting Overeem for the title.

by Albow on Jun 27, 2010 2:52 PM EDT up reply actions

Another loss?

How many losses has Fedor avenged?

The part about Werdum was right on the money. I would be demanding my WAMMA belt and a match with Reem.

You’re right, I just don’t want to see any of those fights. If I had to choose I’d say werdum just for the revenge factor

their are many great fights in the UFC for him

not that i predicted this or anything (cause i didnt)

but i can say while i’m surprised i’m not surprised. fedor’s pulled the rabbit out of the hat more than a few times now and eventually this was bound to happen. lesson learned, stay of the ground with a JJ champ… i’ll take fedor in the rematch.

I'm shocked

It took him three whole sentences before he mentions God. Somebody look that up, it has to be some kind of record

It’s really annoying. He mentions God like 10 times in every conversation.

Dude, you don’t even know me and call me a Fedor Hater. And did I mention that I find humility and being respectful annoying? No, and I don’t find being religious annoying either. Randy Couture is religious and it doesn’t annoy. What annoys me is that Fedor literally mentions God in practically every sentence and talks as if Jesus is his personal guide or something. That I find annoying. For heavens sakes, he brings his own personal Pastor from Russia for every fight, how weird is that?

by aman on Jun 27, 2010 1:29 PM EDT up reply actions

Couture is an adulterous clown.

Saying your religious and acting like a douche is not exactly a good comparible.

don't know

I don’t know about that. I know that he went through a couple of divorces, but I don’t know know what really happened there. Perhaps he is a douche, perhaps not; but I certainly haven’t seen anything like that. Don’t forget that Fedor too went through a divorce and left a daughter from a previous marriage. No that I think this makes them look bad; if the marriage doesn’t work out, there is nothing you can do about it.

Watch this, but have a Russian friend over first who can translate this to you. It’s a documentary on a Russian channel NTV about Roman Zentsov (Fedor’s close friend) and has footage by Fedor and Alexander Emelianenko. Mind you that this is shown on a Russian national channel. This is it, until you watch this in Russian with a translator, I am not responding to you anymore.

I also don’t see why would anyone talk shit about his demeanor especially because I have never done that. Just because I said I find him referring to Jesus all the time annoying doesn’t mean that I am talking shit about his demeanor.

Now that you mention it; after seeing Fedor lose.....

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Ev’rywhere you go;
Take a look in the five and ten glistening once again
With candy canes and silver lanes aglow.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Toys in ev’ry store
But the prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be
On your own front door.

A pair of hopalong boots and a pistol that shoots
Is the wish of Barney and Ben;
Dolls that will talk and will go for a walk
Is the hope of Janice and Jen;
And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start again.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Ev’rywhere you go;
There’s a tree in the Grand Hotel, one in the park as well,
The sturdy kind that doesn’t mind the snow.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas;
Soon the bells will start,
And the thing that will make them ring is the carol that you sing
Right within your heart

DISCLAIMER: I actually have no vendetta/grudge against Fedor, but I’m still not going to sit out on the bashing/cheap shots, that is all..

Fedor VS Fabricio Werdum

I think it’s been confirmed now by all the parties: Scott Coker, M1, Fedor and Werdum that the next fight will be Fedor Vs Werdum.

And yet again Overeem is left without an opponent…sucks

Overeem can wait

He’s been screwing SF around for two years, and now all of a sudden everyone is supposed to please him?

#$%! that. Werdum mentioned he’d like to grant Fedor a rematch…..then so be it.

BJ vs Edgar II anybody?

I agree Edgar Penn was close and could have gone either way. Fedor tapped. In what a minuet? I’m not a Fedor hater but he shouldn’t get the rematch right away. And another thing why is that if I’m happy I saw fedor lose I’m a hater??? Sorry I think its cool. 20 years from now ill be telling my kid about seeing one of the best of all time lose? Just because I’m excited I got to see him lose doesn’t mean I’m hating. My old man loved mike tyson back in the day, but still talked about seeing buster KO his ass

Hey dude, I have nothing against you :-)

I didn’ t call you Fedor Hater. And yes, I hear you. I am not a Fedor hater either and I actually was rooting for him, but this whole Fedor Hater things is stupid. It reminds of nazi guys who label everyone who disagrees with them as not patriots for any criticism of their country.

It is OK to criticize Fedor and actually be his fan. Let’s just move on, guys

Listen, man, I have nothing against you and nothing against being religious. However, being a Russian speaker and watching Russian TV all the time I have a lot more access to what Fedor says and so on. One time on a Russian channel RTR (second biggest channel) there was actually a program dedicated to Fedor where journalists where dumbfounded by Fedor’s religious fanaticism. Even by Russian standards Fedor is considered to be a religious fundamentalist. I am not responding to you anymore. I’m not being negative but you keep on being sarcastic.

personally i think its silly how atheletes think that god is somehow personally rooting for them in every event they participate in. its almost as if god has nothing else to do. maybe if he worked on his jits defense more instead of relying on god to get him out of that sub he wouldnt have lost.

Ben Henderson is also weirdly religious

I cringe every time he goes for the obnoxious “Shout-out to Jesus!” after every freaking fight.

Oh and believing that god, the all powerful creator of the universe (allegedly), personally bestowed one with superior fighting skills is by no means humble.

Bound to happen eventually

It’s funny how all the Fedor haters/Dana ‘huggers (can’t seem to be one without being the other) are out in full force after this. Acting like Fedor getting subbed by one of the best BJJ somehow legitimizes Brock Lesnar as being better than Fedor lol. Sorry Dana and his lovers…..Werdum subbing Fedor means that right now Werdum is better than Fedor….it has nothing to do with Brock.

I’ll bet a million dollars that any HW in the world would have given up a shot at the UFC title to get the oppotunity to be the one to beat Fedor.

Beating the #1 HW in the world trumps the UFC title….Fedor was the title.

Winner faces Cain, JDS fights Big Country for the next shot

Biggest weight wise and elite strength for sure but that doesn’t take away the fact of what they can do in the octagon. I doubt vvery much JDS can handle the ground game of Brock, can Brock get JDS to the ground without takin to many shots? I really don’t think anyone can stop Brock from getting them to the ground but Carwin has the most lethal strike in MMA that has a chance. Much like Barnett has done for years and still does Brock will do to his opponents.

no way should big country get a shot for beating jds.

he needs to beat at least one more real good competition if he beats jds before he gets a shot, at least the loser of brock/carwin. straub and struve are not good enough lead in for that in my eyes even with a win of jds.

by Egads on Jun 27, 2010 3:48 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't know he's proven as much as anyone else

Roy destroyed Struve behind JDS & Cain who is more deserving? He’s the most experienced fighter that is on a winning streak and beating JDS who is 2nd to 4th best in the UFC on almsot everybody’s list I think it would be well deserving? You need a fighter that is on a winning streak to face the champion. I would love to see NOG and Mir face eachother again to see who can climb back into top for contenders?

i hear what your saying

id still be uncomfortable with it but youre probably right about havin the best win streak. it just seems the 2 leadup fights before jds arent worthy enough but if hes whats left i guess it would/should happen.

by Egads on Jun 27, 2010 3:56 PM EDT up reply actions

I doubt he gets by JDS but if he does and thats a big IF he deserves the shot.

Why he was ever on TUF is another question he should of beat AA if it was not for the ref right before AA faced Fedor and is one of the most. He has problems with grapplers stronger than him though and I think would be destroyed by Brock but with JDS he has a chance on the ground. Him and Werdum would be a good fight as well.

on the same card as cain vs winner of carwin/lesnar, IF big country gets by JDS, have him face the loser of carwin/ lesnar. if he gets by both, then he will have deserved the shot.

Yeah but then who fight for the belt, is Brock going to wait around for the winners to sort out?

Like I said I’m pretty sure JDS will win and get his shot we can talk if Roy pulls the upset later.

Not sure how this is entirely relevant, seeing as you are a legendary Dana hater/Fedor 'hugger.

Isn’t JDS better than Fedor too, now? Because, as you know, he CRUSHED Werdum not all that long ago.

Everybody wanted Fedor because his “legend” has been growing much faster than his skill set. Especially in recent years. And a ton of fighters wanted to be the guy to smash the myth and take his mojo. Unfortunately for guys like Overeem, Werdum was the man. Personally, I feel that unless Fedor resigns himself to fighting cans, and only cans, from this point out, we can expect to see him take a Chuck-like turn over the next few fights. Even with the talk of moving to light-heavy (something that Fedor himself has never even hinted at, as far as I know), to me, just means he loses the speed advantage he’s always had over the lumbering heavyweights.

Fedor WAS the greatest, no doubt about it. But with this loss and the level of competition he has faced in his past few fights

i think its clear he’s not the same man who dominated Pride. GSP and Anderson Silva havent been put in bad positions, in a long time they have dominated their competition. Fedor has been put in bad positions in his last two fights. I just dont see him dominating the UFC wrestling power houses and JDS. They would be good fights though no doubt and he is definetly more well rounded than alot of the UFC heavyweights.

I think at this point Fedor would still beat any UFC HW. Having said that, if he fights them all one by one, he is bound to lose at least one fight.

Fedor Sucks?

I am by no means a Fedor nut hugger but to say that he is not the greatest heavyweight of all time is crazy. I am not going to say why he lost or defend anything but MMA is still very young and as time passes Fedor will be seen as one of the greatest fighters of all time. Growing up my dad always told me about Ali, Leonard and the greatest pound for pound fighter Sugar Ray Robinson. All those guys lost and it does not tarnish their legacies. Why should it tarnish Fedor’s? He never claimed to be the best he was humble in victory and in defeat and for that I respect him more now. Lets be honest Fedor could easily fight light heavyweight but he chose to fight with the big boys and more than held his own. I know we all hate that he never fought in the UFC but that is M-1 not Fedor. I was as happy as anyone that he lost so if he never makes it to the UFC we know he was very beatable. This should not however effect his legacy he is still the greatest fighter of all time at this point again MMA is very young. He was the greatest Heavyweight champion in victory and in defeat and for that I applaud Fedor.

…all good things come to an end.

The guy knows he has reached the end of the road.

I predict one more fight to finish his contract and Fedor will go back to Russia and live a simple life and never fight again.
