Fedor learned a valuable lesson last night DON’T DIVE HEAD FIRST INTO A JUJITSU MASTERS GUARD. For such an experienced guy that was a rookie move.

by Jared1984 on Jun 27, 2010 10:13 AM EDT reply actions

I think he would have been fine if he fell inside werdum's guard. Nullify just like he did to nog.

But not holding position when one of the best HW grapplers of all time scrambles on you, yea definitely a valuable lesson. And that was not a luck or anything, everything werdum did was perfectly setup and transitioned into from the initial armbar. He locked up the triangle, made sure it was tight, then went for the armbar instead of blowing it by jumping for the arm too quick. No rookie thing for a decade of dominance to fall to thousands of hours of perfected BJJ.

Like I said yesterday werdum has a chance

Fedor he has displayed slower reflexes in his 2 fights, this doesn’t surprise me at all, all great fighters get old, Fedor of pride wouldn’t lose to werdum, Fedor is and was the best ever heavy but is slipping greatly

I don't know how a man can sit behind a computer and say that Fedor is losing "it"

because he lost to a man we all know is the best in the world on the ground. He made a mistake it happens he’ll get his rematch and win and then maybe they can fight again and he’ll win again.

USA All the way !

LOL at Werdum being the best in the world on the ground

No one was saying that before Fedor tapped. Every one thought this fight was set up for Fedor to win, and most looked past him to the Reem fight. Way to spin it though Roberto, you fuckin Hack!

by JRE on Jun 27, 2010 11:26 AM EDT up reply actions

Roberto=good poster. Werdum has very good BJJ and if u look up his grappling accomplishments they are right up there in contention for the best in the world (minus, of course, Roger Gracie, who seems to be barely competing in MMA).

So who do you suppose is better? Name a few guys if you can. I’m not doubting you at all by the way. I’m curious.

Speaking of good grapplers, I heard during the SF broadcast, when he fought, that Roger Gracie was training something like 80% BJJ and 20% stand-up. Man, that guy should go crazy training stand-up, 80% stand-up or more. He would improve dramatically.

Roger Gracie ain't even on the radar and he's competing as LHW.

name a successful HW in MMA with better BJJ than Werdum?

impossible!

Fedor is a world class grappler and he’s very good at that, although I was hoping to see him give his 100% Fedor Lose To Werdum Conspiracy

I never said he was competing at HW, nor did I compare him to anyone. Are you trying to correct something here? Because there is nothing to correct.

I wasn't replying to you.

I was responding to ANS , I would like to know who’s a better hw grappler in mma than Werdum and it’s not Roger since he’s competing as a LHW + he’s a beginner in MMA.

by RoBerto. on Jun 27, 2010 7:05 PM EDT up reply actions

None

Even in BJJ gi and no gi, it’s Roger, Marcio Cruz, then Werdum. No one is a bigger fan of Big Nog than me but Werdum has way more grappling accolades than him (stil my boy simply outboxed that ass up and down that ring). Frank Mir shouldn’t even be mentioned in the discussion. Nothing to spin here, Werdum is the best BJJ at HW.

Ok. Well, I was the one who brought up Roger, and that was just a general statement.

I agree. Werdum is certainly one of the best.

Yeah, I wonder who is so much more superior to him in grappling as well as just BJJ, according to ANS. That’s why I asked him. I’m curious to see what he says. Oh well, he either didn’t see the question or chose to ignore it. Probably because it wasn’t aggressively asked by SD in a post which takes up half the page.

Slipping is not losing it!

He is still the best heavy out there but his fights have been more competitive lately and I think its because he is getting older thats all…IMO the Fedor of Pride runs through Rogers and Werdum, Nog in his prime was more dangerous on the ground

by Robert(1) on Jun 27, 2010 5:42 PM EDT up reply actions

no, robert but the general view on this site is that he's losing it.

my honest opinion is that he’s fighting bigger and better opponents today than he did in Pride. Today’s MMA fighter is more complete and dangerous than the one 5 years ago.

by RoBerto. on Jun 27, 2010 6:37 PM EDT up reply actions

Thats a valid point but Fedor

has been fighting for a long time and theres no shame in getting a little slower, Werdum is not bigger than anybody Fedor has faced and Nog was better on the ground/. Im also a strength and conditioning coach, so I anaylize all the time, Fedor"s reflexes are not a sharp as they once were, that being said he is still the best heavy out thee and I still believe he would kill Brock, Carwin, not sure about JDS or Cain

by Robert(1) on Jun 27, 2010 8:41 PM EDT up reply actions

agreed.

I don’t believe his speed or “declining” physique played a factor in this fight though, he was just reckless.

He fought kinda like Chuck Liddell does when he’s standing, you are gonna get caught fighting wild like that if u miss your shots.

against Nog he played it smarter and took much smarter risks.

Jackanapes

No disrespect towards Werdum but his MMA BJJ isnt as world class as his Gi/No Gi BJJ say in ADCC. Sure he is a masterful bjj guy and has shown that with two world titles but his MMA BJJ isnt the top of the world. I wish I could give you a list of who are better. IMO I would say Mirs MMA BJJ is just as good as Werdums MMA BJJ. The sub on Fedor wasnt anything other then very very good technique. It wasnt spectacular bjj

by AintNoSunshine on Jun 28, 2010 1:26 PM EDT up reply actions

I can live with that. It’s good to see Mir getting some recognition anyway. He’s far too hated around here.

if it were anyone else there wouldnt even be a rematch

so why should fedor get one just cus he lost…why didnt big nog get an immediate rematch against mir? oh yeh just cus its FEDOR the almighty he gets a rematch cus he lost and it wasnt like it was a fluke either.

So does Fedor give Werdum that stupid WAMA belt...

or does he continue to walk in, with that fake ass represntation of something insignificant?

I believe someone on here says it was for the WAMA belt but am not to sure who it was.

So by that logic yes Werdum is the new WAMA champ lol. What a joke hope he throws it away or worse tell Fedor to keep it.

I thought WAMMA no longer existed?

I don’t think Werdum would want that stupid fake belt.

Emelianenko, who was said to have been consoling his sullen team members backstage afterward, was characteristically calm following the defeat, smiling to the press as he answered questions.

read this on sherdog and thought it was hilarious. Those M1 bastards are crapping their pants!

We can all keep arguing about last nights events.....

But one thing is for sure. Werdum won in decisive fashion, you cant take that from him. Now as for Fedor, only time will tell. We may not see him enter the ring for another year. And his next fight will no doubt be the most important of his carreer. I guess thats the worst part of this thing we all love called MMA, the wait.

I DONT SEE WHAT THE BIG DEAL IS?????

Its strikeforce. Fedor obviously lost on purpose so that he could get the title shot….lol. Thats how strikeforce works isnt it? Get KO’d or submitted and your next in line for the title shot. Good thinking Fedor…LMAO!!!

Where are all the guys that were talking shit about Brock tapping?

Brock was in his 2nd fight when that happened! Fedor or should I say “GOD” would never tap right? Now all of a sudden Werdum is “the best on the ground?”

by JV. on Jun 27, 2010 12:39 PM EDT reply actions

its not fair to do imediate rematch for werdum, he earned his shot

werdum should fight overeem and winner takes on fedor, or even better if they wanna pair up big foot vs fedor and winner takes reem or fw

strikeforce better not set up an immediate rematch

a lot of people seem to think that’s the only smart thing to do business-wise. I think in the short term, perhaps. Not in the long term. Fans would lose respect for Strikeforce and Coker if the next fight was a rematch. SF already takes a lot of shit for some matchups. Werdum won fairly and decisively, and Fedor does not even come close to deserving a quick rematch.

werdum wasn't lucky

to pull off a move like that is amazing because fedor is a world class grappler. Nog couldnt even sub fedor in 3 fights and he was on his back most of the time in those. GIVE WERDUM CREDIT he is a top ten heavyweight IMO
